Use a fawn bleat today right before sun down. Big doe totally just ignored it. Kept on eating 70-80 yards from me. Not a care in the world.

I have a lower line Bear Charge (no longer in production). I haven't gotten anything with it yet so all I can say is that it performs just as well at the range as most guys I've seen. It does have a little bit of a louder "twack!" when I shoot than some I've heard.

Ummm...yes.

It's life's great irony. Those too young to get one, can get one without suffering major consequences. Those of us who are old enough to get one, shouldn't because of health issues.

new hunter- seeking buddies, I will help in any way

A bow will open a lot of opportunities for you since you live in the city. For example, Westchester is strictly bow only and there are a bunch of places there you can hunt. As far as owning a rifle/shotgun, are you planning to go through with the licensing process? I'm some what familiar with the process if you need help with that.- 25 replies

I don't want to marry my twin. It's good to each have their own little hobbies. Even your best buddy can get on your nerve every once in a while if they are constantly there all the time. Every once in a while you need a little break here and there. That said, I enjoy it every time my wife comes with me and she certain doesn't do it enough. As long as I get one day to myself every now and then I'm good.

I agree, Phade. I was in the same position a few years ago myself and got a few helping hands along the way. I'm just saying the fish aren't biting as much this time of the year but to keep trying.- 25 replies

It's a NYC thing. You're not suppose to lend it out and if caught, you can lose all your stuff and have a date in court. But like I said, let people get to know you. You'll improve your chances that way.- 25 replies

Phade, you're better than most of us here. That's a fact. I have taken a lot of newbies and experienced hunters after deer season out to hunt. Many here can attest to that. Just never during deer season. This year, I barely have time to even hunt for myself let alone bring someone along with me.- 25 replies

Forget borrowing a gun. Not going to happen. Word of advice, asking to do so is like asking to sleep with their wives. It automatically ends the conversation. Not sure about upstate folks but NYC laws are so strict, no one in their right mind will allow another person to use their firearms. I don't even allow my own brother to borrow my firearms. Note: The other question you don't ask is where their secret spots are. You'll understand once you start hunting on your own. They won't be as offended when you ask but generally, hunters don't give out their spots.- 25 replies

First off, welcome to the sport. Do you have a bow? What part of part of the city are you in? Your timing is a little bad because season just started so most hunters will be focus on their own hunt rather than try and drag a newbie around with them. Hunters also tend to want to get to know a hunter before bringing them out to the woods. Keep at it. Participate on this forum. Let others get to know you and maybe later on in the season, hunters will have more time available.- 25 replies

No certification for storage needed. License will allow you to possess and store. The $300 is broken down to $150 (or so, don't remember) for a 3 year license (must pay that fee every 3 years) and the rest is a one time finger print and processing fee. The licensing process is a thorough process. You must essentially show proof that you are a stable individual. You also have to sign over a lot of legal documentation such as consent from everyone who will be living with you that they're okay with you having these firearms in the house and a guardian who will take responsibility of the firearms if something were to happen to you. Also signing a bunch of "yes, I read this rule so I can't plead ignorance in court" type of papers, etc. Once you receive your license, then you can pretty much walk into Wal-Mart and purchase freely but right after you purchase, you must register what you bought with the NYPD via mail. They'll approve your registration so as long as the firearm meets their ridiculously strict rules as to what you can and cannot own. The initial steps is a ton of work but once you have the license, it becomes routine. I buy something, fill out a form, mail it in. I'm not trying to make it seem fair but I don't think people who are stuck in NYC should be discouraged about owning a firearm. It is not impossible. [EDIT] PS: To answer the specific question as far as certificate of storage, one of the "yes, I read this rule so I can't plead ignorance in court" papers is about proper safe storage.

don23 - I hunt in various public lands in Putnam, Orange, and Westchester County. Depending on what I'm going for or what instruments I want to use. You have find the Havalons cheaper on Amazon.
-
Easy to clean. Worst comes to worst, just throw out the blade and replace it with a new one.
-
I use Havalon knives too. No sharpening, very little cleaning. Surgeon scalpel sharp.

From your picture, it looks like your whole thumb was cut off! Good thing your finger is okay though.

Not sure when it starts since both times I went were after deer season. I was initially thinking that you can call in and tell them you're predator hunting and then just stay in till the sunrises but I guess if they're saying not till the 17th then that might squash that idea.
-
To night hunt predators there, you need to obtain a predators pass and then call in advance to let them know you'll be there that night hunting predators. Must provide plate number to car as well.
-
Question is how much are they. Some shops have them but they're selling them at $60 a box (of 525 rounds) when I use to pay $20 for them.

I would have to go with the annoying gnats and mosquitoes that keeps hovering right in front of your face and you keep swatting them away but they keep coming back. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free

I has already started. I've read a few books, guide, etc. I check on what my wife is eating. Me: "What? You're only having a bowl of cereal? That baby needs to eat! I'm going out right now and getting you a spinach calzone!"

I think not reporting kills is tops. Off hour hunting. But trespassing are the ones that are reported the most because most people will investigate and call I'm when someone is trespassing their property. If you hear a gun shot before sun rise, you're probably not going to call DEC about it. Find someone setting up a tree stand on your property? You're not going to ignore that.
