  1. Here's a picture of my red dot on my Mossberg 500 taken during this winter at the end of the day as the sun is setting. As you can see, clearly visible. (the top right corner is chipped hence the discoloration)
  2. Most red dots today has a dial where you can control the intensity of the dot and well as the size and shape of it as well.
  3. I don't think these ads main goal is to get people to quit but rather their main goal is to prevent young kids from starting in the first place.
  4. There's none in the NYC area. Seems like every year there's less and less in the city.
  5. I use a holographic sight as well. I always turn it off and then turn it on when I'm about to shoot. I love it when it's on but I've also lost of lot of opportunities as well due to not remembering to turn it on. Not much of an issue when you spot and stalk or spot and wait but when something flies by unexpected or jumps out all of a sudden, you don't have time to turn it on.
  6. I use to smoke a pack a day for 9 years. Smokers know exactly what they're doing to their bodies, it still won't stop them from quitting. It took me 8 tries to quit. I finally got it in the end with the help of wellbutrin and bupropion. Best decision I ever made.
  7. People watch too many movies or something and get into this falsehood that every cop out there is a John McClane or Robocop or something. Truth is cops have more training than the average joe but in the end, they are still human beings who makes human mistakes. Once they're exposed to be only human, those same people treat those cops as if they're even less than that. For that, I don't understand why some people will get other opinions when they're doctor tells them bad news because they don't trust the doctor 100% yet they trust cops 100%. They'll take their medical health into their own hands but refuse to take their own personal protection into their own hands.
  8. NBA's Portland Trailblazers was once nicknamed Portland Jailblazers.
  9. Hello Rick. Welcome to the sport and the forum.
  10. I know this should not be an issue but I want to double check before I do. I have a couple of long guns I need finish up paper work for and so in the mean time, I want to store them in my uncles place near northern Westcheser which is out of the reach of NYC's tyranical laws. I just want to triple check that this is okay before doing so. I'm sure my uncle would not be happy to he got in trouble over this.
  11. Why not expand it to NYC hunters in general? There's a large Brooklyn population and a few of us in the Bronx as well. A couple of years ago, some guy try to start one in NYC but it was poorly ran. I tried to help out as much as I could but giving my own personal schedule, I didn't want to take on the burden of being the administrator not knowing how busy my life was going to be...only that it was going to get busier. The interest is definitely there.
  12. After speaking with an officer who knew more about the law, she said I'm missing the bill of sale which is not to be confused with a receipt which was what I was sending in. All firearm purchases contains a bill of sale. I called Gander Mountain and asked for a copy of the bill of sale. Gander Mountain told me that bill of sales does not exists for muzzleloaders so they didn't know what to do. After some discussion with a manager at Gander, they came up with the idea of using an off-line bill of sale. Basically a hand written form that they use when their computer systems goes down. Hopefully, NYC will accept this off-line bill of sale. All this confusion is when one jurisdiction does thing one way and another jurisdiction does things another way and the two jurisdictions don't consider the potential conflicts that might arise from the different systems.
  13. Wouldn't be. I was calling the shotgun/rifle division. If they thought it was a revolver they would/should have directed me to the conceal carry office.
  14. Not just gunshops...even the law enforcement officers and those who specifically deal with firearms don't even know the law properly. I bought a muzzleloader last fall and I keep trying to register it. It keeps getting rejected. Last one with no explanation. So I got frustrated and decided to call into their office. This is exact the conversation. Me: "I'm trying to register a muzzleloader but it keeps getting rejected. Can someone let me know why it's getting rejected so I can have it properly registered? LEO: "Does it hold 5 rounds or 7 rounds?" Me: "Umm...it's a muzzleloader." LEO: "I know. How many rounds can it hold? 5 or 7?" Me: "Umm...technically, I guess it hold just one? It's a muzzleloader." LEO: "Huh? What do you mean technically?" Me: "It's a muzzleloader. You know? Like those old civil war antique guns where you pour the powder down the barrel and jam the bullet down with a rod type of gun?" LEO: "Oh! Oh. Ummm...Hmmm...can you call back on Monday and ask for Officer Evans?" PS: This was last week.
  15. Flipping through the channels I came across an episode of Easton Bowhunter. This guy is hunting in Montana and shoots a spike. You see the hit the deer's front/left shoulder and the deer runs off with the arrow sticking out. The scene then cuts to him following the blood trail and trying to find this deer. After some looking around, he spots it...yells the typical "There it is! Hoooweee!" and gets all excited finding his deer. Except...there's no arrow sticking out of the deer. He then kneels down and examines the hole in the deer's shoulder and hypes the deep penetration of this arrow breaking shoulder blade, etc. Then...get this...he pulls an arrow from his bow quiver and the arrow is covered in blood and by showing where the blood stops, he proves how deep the arrow penetrated. Woah! Wait a minute! How did the arrow disappear from the deer and magically reappear in his bow quiver? I have to get me some of those arrows! I think, they either found the deer, messed up the scene, re-shot the scene with him acting all surprised as if he just found the deer, and forgot to put the arrow back on the reshoot on top of poor editing from the film crew. Or...he made a bad shot and the deer he shot was never really recovered so they shot another deer (maybe with a rifle to make it easier) and planted it there as if it's the one he shot. Either way...reality TV is never reality.
  16. Welcome aboard. You're far from me but glad to have you on the forum.
  17. I hired a friend once. Lesson learned - will never do it again. If you want to stay friends, never hire or work for a friend.
  18. Amazing story wooly, and great job!
  19. Pre-SAFE, I was paying $20 for a box of 525 Remingtons. That comes out to .038¢ a round. I'll do cartwheels right now if I can have .046¢ a round shipped to my house at this point. Driving a hour to a shop to find out their self is empty? That's why I don't even bother checking unless I have another reason for going to the shops.
  20. Elmo

    Killed one..

Just go to Amazon.com or bhphotovideo.com and search "camera wireless remote". Most of them are camera specific so you have to know which camera you are planning to use it with. I had forgotten about them. I use to use a cheapo wired one instead since my main reason for using them is to shoot ultra long exposures (it eliminates camera shake) and I haven't used it in a very long time.
  21. This is amazing! Wooly, you see some of the craziest stuff.
