AR'15's aren't necessary ...........
Elmo replied to fasteddie's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
In movies, the heroes hardly ever seem to run out of ammo either. -
Looks like it'll probably be Sunday for me as well.
-
Yes. Just haven't figured out if it'll be Saturday or Sunday.

Saw a bunch of coyote signs up in Stewart last weekend. A couple of people interested in heading to Stewart this weekend for a variety of game. I don't think we're targetting coyotes in general but it's definitely on the menu if the oppurtunity game up.

Well then I apologize for jumping to conclusions. In the past, someone had create accounts and immediate post topics that try to elicit information for anti hunting purposes.

On Wed, Jan 23, 2013 at 1:21 PM, Senator Schumer <[email protected]> wrote: Dear Mr. #####: Thank you for contacting me regarding gun control legislation. Like you, I believe the right to bear arms is guaranteed by the Constitution’s Second Amendment. The recent Supreme Court decisions reinforced this fact, but I believed that this was the case prior to those decisions. While I certainly respect the Second Amendment to the Constitution, I believe that we have a collective interest in keeping guns out of the hands of those who want to harm the innocent. I believe it is possible to strike a reasonable balance. I have long advocated for faster and more accurate background checks so legal purchasers can receive their guns quickly while ensuring criminals do not illegally purchase and possess firearms. In 2011, I proposed S. 436, the Fix Gun Checks Act to provide more funding to states to compile required background data for the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). This legislation builds on the National Rifle Association-supported NICS Improvements Amendment Act, passed by Congress in 2007. Ensuring that this information is comprehensive and up to date will protect law enforcement from criminals with illegally obtained weapons while speeding up the process for purchasing legal firearms. You may also be pleased to know that I have successfully fought to create new opportunities for law abiding citizens to exercise their right to use guns. For example, in the 109th Congress, I secured federal money to expand the scarce hunting grounds in New York State by creating a financial incentive for private landowners to allow hunters access to their property. Thank you for contacting me about this important issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can ever be of assistance to you on this, or any other matter. Sincerely, Charles E. Schumer United States Senator -
I'm not saying it is but it certainly could be another anti trying to get hunters not to hunt. [edit: in addition] First post and asking hunters not to hunt?
-
Sure. Thinking of heading out again this weekend. Either Saturday or Sunday. Not sure yet.

Not sure which of the many petitions I've signed this Senator is responding to but I got this email this morning. On Wed, Jan 23, 2013 at 9:19 AM, Jeffrey Dinowitz <[email protected]> wrote: Dear Mr. #####, Thank you for your email. As you know the legislature has passed the SAFE Act which has already been signed into law by Governor Cuomo. This legislation not only bans assualt weapons, limits magazine clips to seven rounds and requires universal background checks in New York but it also includes a significant mental health component as you suggested. This multi-pronged approach will help improve the safety of all residents of New York state. Sincerely, Daniel Johnson Community Liaison -
Still depends on the area. Putnam County is a County law so it applies to every where within that County, public or private. Stewart is a park specific law even though it resides in Orange County which allows rifles.

Big fan of the Nikon ProStaff as well. -
You're not too far from a couple of us. We do a lot of group hunts in Stewart. Check out this thread under Small Game Hunting: http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/4959-squirrel-hunting-44-days/page__st__180#entry188024

Welcome aboard. Feel free to ask any questions.

Spotted a couple of squirrels but too far in the distant. The target game was rabbits but we struck out on them. I took a shot at a passing crow but my wing shooting needs some serious work. I keep forgetting to lead them in the heat of the moment.

BTW, I don't know why I wrote that Gander is 100...I meant to say Gander was an hour from NYC. My mind was somewhere else apparently. I'm also under the impression that you want to pick this up in person rather than mail order it. If mail order is not a problem, there are several places you can order from.
-
I recommend calling that actual store. They have stores everywhere. Just because it's on the website doesn't mean that store carries it. If they don't have it at that particular store, you can also have them ship it to that store and have them hold it till you get there.
-
Depends on the area. For example: Stewart State Forest is shotgun only for everything all the time. Putnam County is shotgun only during big game season. You just can't use rifles to hunt coyotes during big game season in Putnam. All other seasons, you can use rifle.

Gander Mountain www.gandermountain.com 100 N Galleria Drive Middletown,NY 10941 845-692-5600 Davis Sport Shop, Inc. 120 Route 17 - P.O. Box 86 Sloatsburg, NY 10974 Phone (845) 753 2198 [email protected] http://www.davissport.com/ Gander and Davis are what you're looking for. More selection at Gander but Davis pretty much will have most of what you'll need. Davis is about a 45 minute drive from NYC while Gander is 100. The good thing is you'll drive pass Davis on your way to Gander so you can stop there first and if they don't have what you need, you can then continue on to Gander. Dick's Sporting Goods www.dickssportinggoods.com 1 MAPLE AVENUE WHITE PLAINS, NY 10605 914-328-3487 Dick's Sporting Good is the closest one to the city but their selection is very very limited. Gander and Davis are hunting/fishing stores, Dick's is a sporting goods store with a small hunting section. EDIT: [change foods to goods]

Shotgun kick depends on the load. I can shoot #6 steel shot all day but when I put in a slug round, that same shotgun rings my bell every time I pull the trigger. Because of the various loads, some people have told me they've had theirs jam here and there (not often) when they use a load that does not have enough kick to cycle another round into the chamber. You need enough kick to push the bolt all the way back enough for it to grab the next round. At the same to time, the bolt has to have enough tension to pick up the round and slam it into the chamber tight.

Despite all this chaos...I still had a great weekend.

Did not think of that. That's something I should really consider.
