We all knew that there was no way he can keep spending the way he's spending (continuing the war, universal healthcare), not doing a damn thing about the trade deficit, handing out bailout after bailout, and not expect a tax increase. There's going to be some lean times ahead as we try to climb out of our deficit.

So what Gun was used by the coward in Newton CT..
Elmo replied to sits in trees's topic in General Chit Chat
This whole thing started when I was responding to this comment. "The .223 does not make devastating wounds, it was designed to injure and not kill enemy combatants." I was merely pointing out the fact that the poster might have confused the 223 with the military 5.56. There was a difference between the initialy desgin purposes of the 223 versus the 5.56. The 223 was never designed with combat in mind. I shoot the 50 grain American Eagle 223 LCT. According to the manufacturers description: "Polymer tip creates explosive expansion for spectacularly effective kills on varmints" -

Maybe there's a difference between the military M4A1 I was referring to versus a civilian variant. -
In NYC, we register our firearms and are fully responsible for them. If someone is borrowing my firearm and he/she gets caught with any sort of violation, I'd be in trouble. Naturally, if someone else would be using my firearms without my supervision, I'd would want it off my name.

I get the girls mostly. -
If I buy a gun for myself...than after a few months, decided to sell them to someone who is willing to buy it off of me. I can't do a background check so I didn't know *cough* *cough* they could not buy it themselves. [edit: grammar]

Guess everyone has different experiences. -
Sterling Forest requires you to call a number and let them know the make, model, plate # of your car and that you'll be hunting that night. This way when they see a car parked, they'll know what's going on as oppose to a lost hiker or smeone up to no good. This is the only park that I've hunted with such a requirement. Might want to check the parks you're planning on hunting.

My bro told me he use to shoot 223's out of his M4 just for kicks. Ever so often, it'll jam because the lower pressure wouldn't be strong enough to push the firing pin/ejector back for enough to grab the next round into the chamber. -

223 is a sporting round. 5.56 is a military round. Both have identical external dimensions but the 5.56 has a thicker wall on its casing which allows it to handle a slightly higher pressure. This higher pressure allows it to also fire a heavier bullet more accurately. Most common weight for a 223 is 55 grains while military 5.56 is 75 grains. Military 5.56 must be chambered in full metal jacket in compliance with the Geneva Convention. It also allows it to penetrate armor better. The varmint purposes of the 223 is maximum expansion. The 5.56, however, can be reloaded to meet the same 223 specs. Both rounds will do a good number on human flesh, yes. -

223 is a varmint round. The 5.56 (which is what the military uses) is designed to injure combatants. -
I have a Savage 93R17. Love that gun. Tell me how it works out for you for yotes. I'm trying to gather as many opinions on it's performance on yotes.

I don't think it's grossed out at all. Dogs don't mind one bit. In the wild, they eat everything on the animal.

Waterfowl has different dates so be careful as to what you take and when. Some stuff are closed this weekend. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28888.html http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28496.html

Not sure how close you want to be but there's camping in Harriman State Park and Clarence Fahnestock. You're not allowed firearms in there but I guess if you have it locked in your trunk you might be ok. Best check with the park rangers though as I don't know the rules.

It's indicative of the culture we're surrounded by. The fact that these quality educational programs are no longer available is because people stopped watching them. I remember as a kid I was facinanted watching Bob Ross paint. It was like watching a magician at work and you're waiting for the big finale in the end. Kid today will probably find him boring.

Either stand with us or get out of the way
Elmo replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I don't think I've ever met a military personnel or vet who isn't pro-gun. It's also why I think a repeat of Nazi Germany is not as likely. -
I grew up watching "The Reading Rainbow" and "The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross". You can't find any shows like that anymore. Now, kids watch "The Jersey Shore".

Time to get some tanks, jets, and intercontinental ballistic nuclear missles. -
Waterfowl, crow, and small game is also open but Stewarts camping restrictions only applies for all the big game seasons. You need to obtian a permit to camp there and fires and extremely regulated. As far as "rangers finding us", that's entire up to you and whether or not you think it's worth the risk. Me personally, I'd camp out if I was hunting the Adirondacks but Stewart is only an hour from me. I rather sleep in the comfort of my own home and get up an hour earlier. Here's a brochure regarding recreational use of Stewart State Forest. http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/lands_forests_pdf/stewartbroch12.pdf

I believe camping is not allowed in Stewart during any open hunting season. Each park has their own regulations.
