Got two public land spots I want to try to hit up in Putnam. I was hunting there during bow and came close on a couple of occasions but haven't been back there since Hurricane Sandy hit. Heck, I hardly been out since Hurricane Sandy. Been so busy.

Will be heading out with the muzzleloader for the first time ever on Monday. How's the rain going to treat it?

Someone from England should refrain from commenting on the meaning and purpose of the Constitution. -
hunter, I bought the CVA Wolf a month ago. Also a first time muzzleloader. I use 777 pellets with 250 grain TC Shockwaves (.50 caliber). I only drop 2 pellets in. With only a fix 4 power scope, I was hitting within a inch of my targetted bullseye at 100 yards. I believe if I break the barrel in further, had a cleaner barrel (those hits where after over 10 rounds at the range), and had a more powerful scope, I could have achieved an even tighter group. The muzzleloader has become one of my favorite rifles to shoot.

Would you register all your guns?
Elmo replied to nybuckboy's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Got the answer. I basically proceed the same way as I would as if I'm buying. Meaning, fill out the form and mail it in. The only difference is that when I fill out the form, I would list myself under the seller section and I would fill out the buyer in the buyer section. -
I know. I didn't have to show any form of ID when I bought mine. Problem is I keep powder with the muzzleloader and when I transport it to hunt with, I'll have powder with it as well. For me, I have a permit. Registration only cost me a 45 cent stamp so why won't I registered it?
-
My take is that you don't need to register it if you're buying it to be displayed in a glass case thus "antique gun" but the moment you buy powder and projectile, it is no longer an antique gun but rather a firearm and must be registered. JPP - The gun laws, traffic, crowd, and crime is a pain but there are so many other positives about the city that sometimes balances it out enough for people to want to stay. For others, there's job and family.

Cool. Was going to point you towards TekServe but it looks like you found what you're looking for. -
I use the phone app sometimes as well while I'm driving to my spot but mainly I was simply using the smoke powder (now, the cotton weed) once I parked.
-
Man, you guys know a lot of $h1t.
-
By the way, I called the NYPD shotgun and firearm division today just to double check and they said muzzleloader do need to be registered. I guess they assume one would have the powder and primers for it.
-
So who would retire from deer hunting if this happened to you?

He said he was hunting for 10 years...hmmm... -
All the ones at your hunting spot are herding up by the ones by the road.

Push To Include Big Bore Airguns For Big Game In New York?
Elmo replied to 13BVET's topic in General Hunting
The fact that silencers/suppresors are illegal in NY is a possible opposition. -
I got a H&R Handi-Rifle compact in .223. Not a bolt and not the best gun out there but a lot of gun for the price that it is. I bought the youth model because I a light weight, short barrel. I then replaced the short stock with an adult stock.

Was still able to read the numbers from mine when it went through the wash so I never replaced it. Thought it would have been a hassle. Good to know for the future.
-
Geez, that's a monster!

Welcome back!
-
You mean the pistol grip without the butt stock? Never tried it.
-
It's like a car. It's primary purpose is to get your from point a to point b but you still take a little bit of pride in it and want it to look good. Just because you hot rod it up doesn't you're not going to use it to drive around. Here's mine after modifications. Wooden stock is what it originally looked like.

I don't plan to start until after late MZ so while I'm squirrel and deer hunting, I'm checking out for any signs. That's what determines where I go. Again, for me, it's all theory since I planning on applying it.
-
That's what I'm planning on using. Just haven't actually tried it yet so just checking that it works. You use the coon fight or, baby coon, or some sort of distress call?
-
Same thing happened to me last year. As long as it can be read it's okay. Otherwise, you need to have it replaced ASAP because I heard it has to be through the mail.

Welcome. I also wanted to becomes hunter while in college but then forgot about it after graduating due to work. Didn't remember until 12 years later when work slowed down and someone had to remind me of it. Now I dream about hunting every night. You'll be glad you joined.
