Would you register all your guns?
Elmo replied to nybuckboy's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I live in the city of New York....all my guns are already registered so I guess it won't bother me none. They don't need to take them away from me by force. All they have to do is make them illegal and I'll turn them in. Yes, I'm a very pro-guns but there are a few things I enjoy more than guns not the least of which are getting married, having children, being there for them, and watching them grow up. I don't see it as being a coward but rather being selfless and a realist. I unfortunately have so many family that depends on me that if I have to give up my guns so I can continue to be there for them then that is what I must do. Bottom line is the true fight is to keeping gun ownership legal. Registered or not does not make that much of an impact. -
I have dozed off on a couple of occasions.

1. Drove 3/4 of the way to my hunting spot when I realized I left my hunting license at home. Drove all the way home to look for it but couldn't find it...then I realized it was in my bag which I had with me the whole time. 2. Drove to hunting spot and realized I forgot to bring ammo. 3. My tree stand adventure.

Thanks, chefhunter. Yesterday I drove by that gas station, completely filled up my tank, and was out of there in 15 minutes. There was only maybe 5 or 6 cars in front of me.

Just have to be visible. I keep on my backpack. When I'm sitting, my pack is right next to me. DEC has seen it on my backpack on several occasions (even checked my tags) and none of them said anything against having it on my packpack.

Best thermos I had was a Nissan thermos until it was pilferred from me at work. Couldn't bring myself to drop another $30+ on a thermos so now I just gotten use to drinking cold coffee.

Well said, wdswtr. -
Thanks for the heads up. I have to head that direction tomorrow and have enough gas to get to where I need to go but might not have enough to get back. I guess I'll leave early and fill up on my wya up.

I had a stand accident earlier this year and broke my stand. While it was generous for others to offer me their stand (plus I could have used my brothers stand) I noticed that I encountered deer while on the ground but have yet to even see a deer while on the stand. I'm a relatively new hunter so I have a very small sample size to work with. I noticed by chance, 2 of 3 spots I've scouted, a tree stand would not have given me any additional advantage. Of course, murphy's law, that 1 of 3, I happen to be hinding behind a tree and a doe snuck in from my left side, sniffed me out, and ran. She came within 5-10 yards of me. But I didn't have a shot from that angle. Had I been on a tree at them moment, who knows? I might have gotten a angle to take a shot or she might not have came through at all because that's just my luck.

What arrow nocker said. I also pack a first aid kit. Never had to use it so far (knock on wood) but I guess it's worth having. Bring a good flash light. I've left the woods a bit late before. Woods get dark even before official sunset because the trees or a mountain can block out the sun on the horizon. Woods look completely different when it's dark because visual markers won't be visual anymore. Bring extra clothing. You're going to be sweating on the hike in but once you sit down, it'll get cold real fast.

Went into the woods for the first time in a long time just to do a quick scout and see what post hurricane sandy did to my spots. Not a single heart beat at all. There were some tracks and fresh scat but not a whole lot. I didn't even see any squirrels or chipmunks. While my apartment escaped the hurriance unscathed, my parents and other relatives lost power so I've been playing host to a bunch of people at my place leaving me little time now. Chances of a bow harvest this year seems slim now. On another note, I had ordered a scope for my newly purchased muzzleloader but it got stuck in transit due to the hurricane. It finally arrived today so I'll need to start thinking about gun season soon as well.

Never tought of that but that sounds like a great idea. Will definitely do that this year.

I agree with you, rifle design plays a HUGE part in it. I've shot a 7 rem mag out of a long barrelled tikka and I've shot a 30-06 out of a cheaper Remington 770. They both kicked exactly the same to me. I pulled those statistics out of the "Cartiridge Comparison Guide". I'm not 100% sure how strict or rigid they conduct their test. They claim to run their test in a lab and the bullets are being shot out of a test machine and not an actual rifle. This way they can measure the bullets in the same exact conditions.
