  1. Back at it this morning in 8g. It's cold, windy, raining, sleeting and snowing depending on what mother nature wants at the moment. The umbrella is up and all the warm clothes are on. I'm going to stick it out until at least lunch and decide from there. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  2. Well I already told you guys how I got my buddy into a real nice stand which he took a doe from then karma paid me back with a doe of my own. Well same buddy same stand I get a good buck cruise past me nose to the ground and offer no shot but it's headed in his direction. I give him a quick heads up text and 15 min later the buck was on the ground! Ends up being a real nice 7 point with a swollen neck in full rut mode. It's not my personal best opening day but as far as memories go this one is up there. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  3. Just started sleeting/raining here in 8g. Lets see how long I last. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  4. I guess being a nice guy does pay off. 30 min after my buddy took his doe 3 came in front of me and I got a good clean shot on the lead doe! I've seen 3 more since and a red Fox. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  5. I thought I smelled something a bit off Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  6. I haven't seen Jack but I set my buddy up in a real nice spot and he just put a doe down! His first deer in a few years Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  7. I always being way to much and usually forget something at the same time! Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  8. Live from 8g, 57 degrees to start the morning. Going to be 42 at the end of the day. I've never carried so much on my back before! First shot was 6:32am. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  9. 6:32am I had to look at the time because I wasn't even in the stand yet. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  10. Last I looked for the Batavia area they where saying 20+mph but who knows.
  11. Way to hang in there and get it done! Congrats
  12. They do have wheels! just put your gear in the seat and roll it though the woods! LOL.
  13. Fantastic buck! I love the shape of his antlers.
  14. Man that's pretty slick! Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  15. I'll be in private property in the same stand for opening day that I've used for the past 20 years. Its in a spot on the property that doesn't get hunted a lot but is a natural escape route for the deer being moved around. They seem to hit this area and feel safe and slow down to walk. I don't always see deer from here on opening day but chances are between the 2 days I will have a chance at something. Sent from my VS985 4G using Tapatalk
  16. Let it hang overnight. Those temps are safe.
  17. I voted for Saturday only because it makes me not have to burn time off of work which up until this year I didn't have much time to burn. I think no matter if it was Saturday or Monday I would still be rushing around like crazy as that seems to be my general lifestyle currently.
  18. Agreed great to hear shes back up and running. I cant wait for more stories.
  19. I've never done it but know many guys that have and they all say the same thing it just depends on how hard the deer was hit. They say it does not take too much effort to realize the deer has more trauma then they want to deal with. They will pick it up throw it in the bed of truck and call the local police department for a tag. One friend even brought it right to the police station for a tag as it was on his way to where he was going.
  20. Like Turkeyfeathers said it's important to dress in layers and carry the heavier stuff into the stand so you don't sweat if you have a long walk. This goes for your feet as well. Buy yourself some hand and toe warmers they help when it gets real cold.
  21. Oddly enough I've never had this happen. Closest I've ever came was a buck that showed up with only 20 min of light left but he quickly came into a shooting lane.
  22. 12ga. Remington 1100 with Hornaday SST slugs. Been very reliable for many years and I don't want to change.

    Wow

I'm just the opposite, I'm on parental duty while the wife is out of town for work and i'm living vicariously through everyone else knowing today should be a great day for hunting. I'm still jealous though
  24. The most I do is 30 min before sunrise but it usually ends up being I start my walk 30 min before sunrise 15 min walk to my stand then a few min to get settled and ready to go just before legal shooting time. Last year late in the season it was cold out and the cabin was way to nice so I didn't leave until legal shooting. I ended up having a button buck 10 yards from the stand watch me get up and get settled in. I guess he just wanted to make sure I got up there OK.
