The same goes for moderating. You delete things that go against the rules, not things that you don’t like or agree with. The rules are there for everyone and should be applied fairly. the off season is always like that on here.

That was part of it, it spurred the initial conversation. I will Say this, I didnt/don’t want to see Eddie leave, either as a moderator or a member. I think Eddie has been doing a great job. Mistakes happen, disagreements happen, but at the end of the day, if you are unwilling to hash it out, then it is what it is. As moderators, we are supposed to follow the rules that have been laid out for the site. Even if we don’t like or agree with something that someone posted, as long as it does not cross the line, the person that posted it should not be punished, and the post should stay. If the site owner chooses to modify the rules, or overrule the moderators decisions, then so be it, it’s his site after all.

Oh, one thing I forgot To mention, Amazon has a limit of 4 that any account can buy. I dont Know if it’s time restricted or what. To get more I’ve had my girlfriend and daughter order 4 each also.

Yeah they are really nice for what they cost, I was surprised when I found Them that they cost less than simple buckets. I would get a few drums, but I dont really have the setup to use those without it being a pain in the butt. These are easy to handle and move as needed. in the past I always tapped around now, so I have nothing to compare mid February till mid March to. I expected it to be slow early.

2 more gallons collected this morning and they are still running. Looks like I’m getting into the part of the season where it runs very well. I found these water containers on Amazon a week or so ago and ordered some for storage. I didnt Realize it at the time, but they have a spigot that threads I to The center of the large cap. They are perfect for running tubes to. I’m buying a bunch of them, as they are less expensive than new food grade 5 or 6 gallon buckets. Next season I’ll just use these for collection, it should be much more simple than using buckets to collect, emptying those into larger buckets and then dumping those into these to store until it’s time to boil. I’ll have 2 of these for each tap and just leave them there until full and swap them out.

I had A stainless barrel rust after I left A load in it for way too long. I’m talking over a year. The rust was on the breech end and I figured The barrel was trash. Just for giggles I used Some 00 steel wool wrapped around a brass brush to see what would happen. It removed the rust, so I cleaned It up real good and shot it a bunch of times. It literally didn’t affect the gun at all. Still shoots just as accurately as it did before.

Collected 4 gallons today with 3 taps not producing much. All of the others are running solid. One tree was a solid flow out of both taps just a few mins ago as we emptied the buckets. I’m expecting a good amount for the foreseeable days based on the weather. I’ll be boiling early next week for sure.

I’m up about 5-6 gallons over the weekend. It slowed down a bit today.

Last nights wind loosened up 2 of my bucket taps, so when they started running today all of the sap was leaking down the tree. Pulled and plugged them and retapped with hose taps. Trees are running pretty good today.

I think The temps not dipping below freezing much the last couple of days have slowed things down. They have for me, not much sap yesterday or today. I also Have 2 trees that have barely started yet. Things should pick back up again here soon. They will really get going in the next couple of weeks. When the trees are running really good I have gotten 2-3+ gallons per day per tap on medium to large trees.

Yeah those two trees are huge. My time with them is limited though. The one is smack in the middle of the driveway and needs to go. Probably next year or the year after. The other one by the deck hangs over the roof, deck and where we park our cars in front of the garage. It’s a big issue that I need To take care of before too long. I already Have a good size hanger about 30 feet above the corner of the roof that I need to somehow get rid of before it falls and punches a hole in the roof or busts out one of the big windows in the dining room.

We save as much syrup as we need, then with the extra, give it to family and friends. I’m hoping to have enough to make a bunch of candy and some maple cream this year. I’m really small time though. I dont Have enough trees to make that much.

Sure. Nothing super special. I will say that this will probably be my last year with the hanging bucket taps. The tube taps are so much easier to deal with.
