  1. Thats a bad deal right there. I was always taught to find a long stick and poke the deer in the eye for a minute or so before getting right up to it and trying to handle it.
  2. Well what got me started was a couple of years ago, I took some meat to one of the guys near Rochester and spent over $100 having sausage and hot dogs made. They were great but just too pricey, so I started doing it myself. I am also going to be getting an electric or propane smoker to be able to make smoked stuff like hot dogs, pepperoni, etc.
  3. Allk you would see would be the front differential lol
  4. 22 is legal for coyotes, and for short shots they do ok. Better to use a shotgun at closer range though. If you arent in a rifle area, you cant use centerfire during an open deer season. Also, dont be afraid of hunting coyotes, youve got a better chance of being struck by lightning in a snow storm than being attacked by a coyote. The last few times I went with my usual predator hunting partner, we have begun taking a rifle for longer shots and a shotgun for the short stuff. I dont do a ton of coyote hunting during deer season, but when I do, I just use my deer gun.
  5. Get a muff for your hands. I use one and sometimes throw a hand warmer or two in there. I keep my hands in the muff with no gloves if Im in a stand and have no problems. Its nice to shoot without gloves on.
  6. One thing you have to remember with rubber boots is that they trap the heat (and moisture) better than leather or other boots. I have a pair of rubber boots that dont have a ton of insulation (cant remember how much off hand), and all I need is a pair of light socks and a pair of heavy wool socks on top of those. I wear them for coyote hunting, in below zero temps in the wind and snow at night, and my feet stay nice and warm. If I know Ill be out for more than a few hours in temps below 25ish, Ill throw some of those foot warmers in between the two pair of socks
  7. Go take a peek on archerytalk.com youll find plenty of "cool" looking bows over there
  8. LOL, I had the 870 that day, would have put a bigger hole than that in it.
  9. I just had to shake my head when I saw this at the range last week. The signs are there to let people at the line know that the range isnt clear. I realize the person that did it was just being a smartass, but come on.
  10. Seen all of those before. I try every year to get my fiance to let me do one of the wire reindeer hanging with the red lights for blood, but she never gives in.
  11. steve, are you really talking about balls in a woman's cheek in the gun section? Why doesnt that surprise me?
  12. deerthug, thanks for the idea. Way too big for my basement though.
  13. Thanks for the cardboard idea, that might work. I have someone looking into large chunks of rubber conveyor belt that might work as well. The staircase is in the middle of the basement, Ill just have a sign on the door that tells people to yell down first.
  14. Now this is a black eye on the rest of us. Its probably going to be a higher profile case (in relation to other hunting related incidents).
  15. HAHAHA, looks like you already did that. Looks like those slugs are doing great for you. I would stick with them.
  16. It all depends on what shoots good out of your gun. You could have 2 of the same gun and they might shoot differently with the same ammo. Personally, I would sight it in at 50 yards, especially with iron sights, pick the ammo that groups the best and then shoot at 100 to see where they hit so you can adjust your shots past 50.
  17. The only part of that post that makes sense is "Good Luck" lol
  18. For those of you with smart phones, there is a free app called Time2Hunt which gives you the sunrise and sunset times for your location based on GPS. It is spot on with the DEC's chart. It also gives the times for Dawn, Dusk and the moon phase, etc. Its a handy little app and wont cost you a thing.
  19. Good luck to you as well Rich, be safe!
  20. Im not looking for what the Fed says they do, Im looking for what really happened. Sorry, I dont trust the Fed and believe it to be unconstitutional in the first place. All of these facilities and programs that were created back in 08 are the problem that I am talking about. The Fed was audited by the GAO, and that audits findings were released in July. You may want to do some reading into what was found. Let me start you off with an article on Bernie Sanders' web site... http://sanders.senate.gov/newsroom/news/?id=9e2a4ea8-6e73-4be2-a753-62060dcbb3c3 and an article from Forbes... http://www.forbes.com/sites/traceygreenstein/2011/09/20/the-feds-16-trillion-bailouts-under-reported/ There are more, you can do a simple Google search to find them. Also, you may find it interesting to look into where Ron Paul has been trying to go with regular audits of the Fed and who has been trying to keep that from happening. ***cough*** Barney Frank ***cough*** http://www.forbes.com/sites/traceygreenstein/2011/09/20/the-feds-16-trillion-bailouts-under-reported/
  21. Oh I need the explosives, RPG protection, etc lol. BTW, for any of you that have never seen that show (Top Gear the British one not the crappy American version) you really should watch a couple of episodes. The things they do on there are hilarious!
  22. Nope, I said slugs. Thats why I was wondering what you were talking about lol. I know you can only use slugs on deer in NY.
