  1. I have no idea, never tried it.
  2. Sure they can. Aim for the head and keep it to shorter shots, like 50 yards or less.
  3. fishes is actually legit. The word deers drives me nuts too, like fingers on a chalk board lol.
  4. They are in full chase and beginning of lockdown right now. You wont be able to pattern them much, just gotta hope to be in the right place at the right time at this point.
  5. I am going to be improving the base of my Fox mount over the winter, and was wondering where you guys get the fake earth, leaves, plants, grasses, etc for doing mounts. What I am going to do is to box the bottom board in with some nice, stained oak, then add fake dirt, leaves and some grasses to make it look realistic. I will also be adding my archery buck's skull with antlers after the beetles are done with it, along with the empty brass that I killed the fox with. I think it will look nice when I get done. Heres what it looks like now. Something along the lines of this base is what Im trying to do
  6. If you are having a problem sitting on stand, get down after a few hours and still hunt for a while, then go back and sit some more or go to another stand and sit there.
  7. If not a joke, this statement makes me wonder what else you just dont get caught doing.
  8. Youd be wrong. Like I said, email the DEC and ask them. Its not a shed antler, its a roadkill deer and there are laws concerning taking them. If there wasnt, the police wouldnt ask you if you wanted a tag to take it when you hit one.
  9. Agreed, Im just stating that it is not technically legal to do. Feel free to email the DEC and confirm.
  10. Yeah from my cell phone. I was maybe 5 minutes late today lol.
  11. I took the pic from my car. Pulled over on my way to work. Hes a nice 2 1/2ish 8 point. Wish I could have gotten him facing me. His antlers were right to the tips of his ears. Neither of them would move, they were 30 or 40 yards off the road.
  12. 2 mins ago near Lima NY
  13. Looks like hes hunting in the fingerlakes area. 17 deer in 1 day isnt that uncommon around here, especially if you have a decent spot. 14 different bucks in one day though, Id say that hes hunting some nicely managed property.
  14. Doesnt surprise me, I used to live over there and there are some great deer in the area. Congrats to that guy.
  15. I already know the answer, and it is no, you arent legally allowed to do it. You would have to get a tag for the animal from DEC or the police that respond to the call, and then you are supposed to take the whole animal. Is a cop or DEC officer going to bust your balls for it? Not unless they had nothing better to do.
  16. I dont hunt a rifle zone, but alot of the times use my TC Encore pistol chambered in 260 Rem. If I were to buy a rifle just for deer, it would also be a 260. I do have a 30-30 that I use when I do hunt rifle areas.
  17. It doesnt look so bad here, it will be cold in the morning and then warm up a bit, then cool down again in the evening. As long as its not windy, it will be great, all the guys walking in and out of the woods mid morning and afternoon should keep them moving a bit. As long as its not pouring Sunday, that will be fine. Next week its looking like it will be in the upper 30s to low 40s for highs. Should be great!
  18. Thats not all I was using. I did my clothes like normal in the scent killer wash, sprayed down, took a scent killer shower, etc and then had a couple of wafers in my clothing tubs and pinned another to my hat or coat. Got picked off more times than I could count, and I dont think movement was the problem when I was standing still in a tree behind the trunk and could see the deer sniffing with their noses in the air. Stopped using them this year, havent been picked off that I know of yet. Id rather just try and get rid of my scent as much as I can and play the wind than try to cover myself up with something else. I still havethose wafers in the little plastic can, anyone who wants them is welcome to them lol
  19. Cool buck and great story, congrats to your brother and the rest of you for hanging in there and finishing what was started.
  20. Most of the areas I hunt are within 100 yards of or on field edges, its almost impossible for me to slip in when they are bedded in the fields or on the edges of them, which is why I mostly wait till light and hunt my way in. Ive shot a few deer doing just that in the past. Id rather have a chance at sneaking up on one than scaring a bunch away in the dark.
  21. Depends, 15A in Livonia is where I saw the one hit. There are a couple of freshies from the weekend on 390. Saw a bunch on 490 on the way to Churchville today, bunch on 15A south of Rush and 4 or 5 right around the corner from here.
  22. I usually just use scent killers, like the laundry soap, shower soap, deodorant, etc. Last year I thought Id try those earth scent wafers. Never got picked off more in a season. Ill stick to nothing.
  23. Only if youre jacking deer. I never notify DEC if Im hunting at night. The worst they will do is be waiting for you at your car when you come out. No biggie as long as you arent breaking the law.
