Looks like I should be able to get a couple hours in this morning before the rain starts. Heading to my stand shortly.

Think about it, until a couple of years ago you never really heard of a wild pig in NY. Now its starting to be where we are hearing of populations in certain areas. Its bad, all bad. The farmers in those areas and DEC need to kill them all, at all cost.
-
That thing is a PIG! Congrats!

I took my shotgun for granted once, missed two deer one day at close range before I figured out my scope mount was loose. I will never do that again. I shoot my bow every day through the bow season, just take the BHs off and put the field points on.

Nice. Sounds like a ton of fun! Too bad it wasnt a doe.

Slugs in a full choke barrel
WNYBuckHunter replied to NYDeere's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
A rifled barrel is not choked at all, like Pygmy said. You cant shoot sabots through a choke. -
I shoot as many does as I can, theres no shortage around here!

I couldnt today. My daughter is here and we had to do the pumpkins/halloween costume thing today. Ill be out tomorrow morning for a bit, then as much as I can be this week. Ill be hunting somewhere all next weekend.

Yes, LEOs need to fill out paperwork any time they fire their weapon while on duty. I have shot a bunch of deer that were hit by cars because the LEOs would rather not do the paperwork. They just made sure I was safe about it.

Um, just go to it, its down toward the bottom of the forum list.

I never thought I would like the vest type either, but I now own one and were it under my jacket and the only negative I have with it is walking long distances with two straps between your legs. Like I said, I have a vest style now, and dont like it. The Exo Tech is kind of a hybrid between the strap style and vest style. Its more breathable than a vest, but goes on in a similar fashion.

I was just talking to a farmer today about the feral hogs. Hes tired of the deer tearing up his crops and was not happy to hear hogs are starting to show up in this state.

Its a special late ML only season. It may be silly in your opinion, but it is the law, have to abide by it.

Ive mentioned in a few threads that we moved recently, and I just gained permission to hunt one of the 3 neighboring farms. So far its a couple hundred acres, most of which is field, but the farmer that owns it is the brother of the farm on the other side of us and he said all I have to do is ask his brother and he should give me permission for his two farms as well. All three farms put together will total right around 2000 acres. Ive been glassing a bit and this place is loaded with deer, coyotes, and they have been seeing a bear or two on the farm as well. I really hope it goes well when I talk to the other farmer. There are some other guys hunting the farm already, so I will probably hold off from deer hunting the farm this year, as I wont have time to properly scout and I dont want any of them upset with me messing any of their sets up. I will probably start by hitting coyotes after deer closes.

will hunting duck/geese this weekend scare deer on my propety?
WNYBuckHunter replied to tk3445's topic in General Hunting
Ive been scouting and hunting state land this year that has been getting hammered by small game hunters all month (I live right near it and hear the shots all the time). I see deer just about every time I am there, the small game hunting is not chasing them away. -
I know that stretch very well, lots of deer cross in that area each year. Mendon Ponds Park is right up Bullsaw Mill Rd from there.

LMAO :D

The key though Dinsdale, is that you had the gun pointed in a safe direction, so nobody got hurt or killed. If you were pointing it at someone and they got killed, I dont care if the gun misfired or you pulled the trigger, you were not following basic gun safety, so the responsibility would lie completely upon your shoulders. Glad to hear you were being safe and responsible.

Any other info on this deer? I dont see a tag on it in the pic or anything else that shows its from NY. Ill hold back on my congrats until I see some proof.
-
LOL, wow this went way off topic.
-
I want to see them gone as quick as possible. The damage they do far surpasses the fun of hunting them. If I want to hog hunt, I can go elsewhere.

Im actually thinking of getting a new harness. I currently have a Gorilla vest style harness that is 4 or 5 years old. Its in great shape, but I just dont like the strap buckles. Their new Exo Tech looks much better, nice buckles and Im not a big fan of the vest style ones. I dont mind the black color, I usually wear mine under my outer shell (Scent Lok pants and jacket) anyhow. The Summit Seat-o-the Pants looks ok, but the buckles arent that great.

Oh come on, taking personal responsibility for one's actions isnt the American spirit anymore. Geeze, what are you thinking?!?!
