  1. I wouldnt really bother with paint as long as its pressure treated. It will gray up in time and deer dont care about the color once they get used to it being there anyhow. Ive had a few wood stands and never bothered painting any of them.
  2. Looks good. I agree, the rail looks a little high to me for sitting shots, could be the perspective though. One thing Im wondering though, wont the tree grow and lift it higher eventually, so the ladder will no longer touch the ground?
  3. Ive seen that video, whoever owned that dog is at fault for it getting whooped by the deer. They should have had control of it and not let it run up there. I say good for the deer, just doing what it knows to do. Oh, and yes, I am a dog person, I have 2 myself.
  4. No problem. I havent looked at the Penny Saver, I just found this on a calendar of events online.
  5. The scope is an NC Star that was on it when I bought it. Its not horrible and Ill use it till it doesnt work or I run across a good deal on a better one. I should see what Vortex has for pistol scopes. I run 140 grain Remington factory ammo for now. I am going to be getting the stuff for reloading together so I can work up loads for it. I was hitting milk jugs at 200 yards and clay pigeons at 100 with the factory ammo at the range just messing around with it. I havent shot real groups with it yet. Ill have it at the range a few more times before season starts.
  6. John, did you put up containment cages in the plots? You can get an idea of how much they are eating and if you need to expand your plots by looking at the difference between the plants in the cage and the plants outside of it. If the plants outside the cage are eaten to about half the height of the ones in the cage, you are pretty well set. If it gets eaten more than that, you should expand a bit. My honeyhole plot is already decimated, down to the dirt in most of it.
  7. Very true Buckstopshere. Other than swapping out my trailcam cards, after I trim out my lanes and put my stands up, I try to stay out of my areas until season rolls around. This week Im going to trim mine out and put up my stand blind. That will leave the area basically quiet for a while before opener. I will scout other areas a bit though, just to see if anything catches my eye. Just how I do it.
  8. I carry my TC Encore chambered in 260 Remington. I just started with it last year and it has a fox to its name so far. No deer yet, but I hope to change that this year. I also like the reduced weight and added challenge, but I have a much better range than a shotgun.
  9. HAHAHAHA, yeah it would be perfectly fine with me if her backside was out in the woods.
  10. Nice John, they werent that hard getting up there, were they? I use the camo mesh from Hunter's Specialties as it wont stain or hold moisture, which brings on mildew and mold. I leave the stuff up there on mine all year. And with the 2 man stands, dont forget to put the mesh on the back sides as well. Most of the blind kits for them dont cover back there.
  11. I started taking a backpack with me last year because I do all day sits whenever I can. Heres what I usually take... -TP (not a whole roll) in a zip-lock -Thermos of Coffee -Gatorade bottle (empty) -Bottle of water or apple cider -sandwich and a snack or two (cheese its, trailmix, etc) -gutting knife -extra 20ft of hoist rope -spare safety strap -zip ties -pen -extra screw in hanger, 2 steps -headlamp -small flashlight -extra release (during bow) -shooting stick (gun) -hand/foot warmers -scent/drag It sounds like quite a bit, but its not much weight and it all keeps me comfortable. I can strap the pack onto the back of my climber when I use that.

  13. Boy, with all the Kaaa-zings and Kaaaaa-Pows and Thumpapas going on out there, its amazing any deer get shot!
  14. I have friends that dont care for it, though I wouldnt call them antis, then there are some people that i know that are outright antis. They dont bother discussing hunting with me anymore lol. I have some family that dont hunt, but they dont have a problem with it.
  15. Yeah thats who I figured you were thinking of. They are the ones that screwed me over on my bow in the first place. Only reason I took it there is because they are a PSE dealer. That place sucks.
  16. They are working out the pecking order. Bucks are ready to breed as soon as the velvet is gone and they begin to get aggressive at that point. Thats why the bachelor groups start breaking up. Its a cool pic.
  17. Do we really need 2 threads on the EXACT same subject?
  18. Im pretty sure you need a certain percentage of you land to be actively farmed, plus the zoning has to be right. You could lease some fields to local farmers, that would put money in your pocket and possibly cut your tax liability. You would have to check with your local zoning and tax board to make sure. Go talk to the town clerk, they will know who to talk to.
  19. Well that kind of stuff should be there. The bucks are coming out of velvet and they are ready to breed right when the velvet comes off, so you will find rubs and scrapes early. They will kind of die down a little then pick back up closer to the major parts of the rut. Its just one more sign of the season getting close! I would stay out of those areas as much as possible. Get your trail cams in, leave them for weeks at a time and get a set of binos or a spotting scope and watch the areas from a distance.
  20. I got a custom string through H&M Bowstrings. I read good things about their strings and it looks like a very nice piece. We will see how it holds up.
  21. I know the guy that runs and owns Traditions. Hes originally from Lima. His old shop was up on Black Lake. His parents babysat my daughter when she was very young. I also purchased my first bow through him. He knows his stuff.
  22. Bullzeye doesnt have a gun area. They are a bow only shop. I think you are mistaken as to what shop I am talking about. Bullzeye is the shop behind the Outdoor Store on 5&20 in Bloomfield, right near Toomeys Corners.
  23. Interesting comment about the Elites. Aren't they made in the area? That would be interesting to find out why they dropped the product. Would it make any sense to try to duplicate the bow you have now (as closely a possible) since it's primary purpose is to be used as back-up? Doc I found it interesting that they dont carry Elite anymore too. Yeah they are made in Henrietta. All he said was he wasnt playing that game anymore, so maybe their factory support isnt as good as some people have said. He said the 3 brands they are currently carrying have great support and warraties, plus numerous years of history behind them. I know Hoyt has a good rep for quality and good service. I have no intentions of getting another PSE after the crap I went through with this one. The whole reason for getting another brand of bow is to make sure it has good, accessible to me factory support.
