Do you wear Orange? If so why? If not Why not? :)
RangerClay replied to TheHunter's topic in General Hunting
In the Adirondacks I wear an orange hat to and from my treestand. In the southern tier I wear an orange hat all the time. I hope the state does not mandate us wearing a ton of blaze orange. -
I will do without. It only takes a couple minutes to trim out a touch hole.

Do you pee in a bottle or right out of your stand
RangerClay replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
When in the stand or wandering around I wander off a little and pee on a tree. If I am in my ground blind I pee in a bottle. -
Do you like the color of the new license plates? They get a big Nay from me. They are butt ugly!

Slug Guns - What do you shoot? What works best?
RangerClay replied to ELMER J. FUDD's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
My Remington 1100 with a smoth bore just LOOOOOVES Brennekes magnum slugs (not those KO things). I can shoot 5 slugs at 100 yards and get 2-3" groups -
I hate it when people set-up treestands right on the property line. You know they are hunting on you when you are not around.

I had the same problem with my IR4. I really like the camera for the price. I also have a Leaf River camera that is excellent.

Remember folks, yes piebald are neat to look at but piebald genetics are a defect and are NOT something that you want in a deer herd. If you see one you see one during seer season you should try to remove it.

We have them running around at hunting camp near Gouverneur. I've seen them but I have never shot one.

Quality affordable scopes? What do you use?

I have had excellent luck with Bushnell. I have never had a problem but I heard stories that they outstanding customer service. -
After reading the last 3 paragraphs of this article, I'm beginning to wonder. http://www.registerstar.com/articles/2010/06/03/columnists/outdoors/doc4c0734afc110d893809425.txt

I have that exact same release and I really like it! I especially like that you can fold back the release when you are pulling arrows out of the target, writing down scores, or just taking a pee on a tree. Gooood choice!

I bowhunt mainly from a ground blind but my treestands are about 15 feet up.

I bought some Rage 2-blades and tried them for one season. I wound up selling them to a friend. The darn things kept deploying every time I bumped the arrow or popped one out of my quiver. They just were not solid enough for me. I bought some of the Epek XC-3's and I like them better. The broadhead that I use the most are 100 gr. Slick Trick mags. I looooove these broadheads.

Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
RangerClay replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Yep, me. Is this deer hunting or animal husbandry? We need to stop playing God and messing with animal genetics. With this program starting to fail in PA. and western states starting to drop their AR programs we need to wake up and smell the coffee.- 1885 replies

Antler Restrictions - What are your thoughts?
RangerClay replied to TheHunter's topic in Deer Hunting
Keep AR voluntary and I won't have a problem with it. I've been hunting deer for 28 years. This whole AR debate has me laughing. If someone had promoted this in the 1980's it would have been a joke. Now today, thanks to certain outdoor tv shows everyone has to kill the biggest rack in the woods. I went through that "monster buck" phase for a while when I was younger but it has worn off, thank God. Now I'm enjoying the deer hunt for what it is and I enjoy it much more. I could care less if I kill a monster buck and I'm sharing that with my kids. Here is my personal experience with AR on my own piece of property. When I bought my 22 acres the locals who hunt around me asked me not to shoot little bucks because they were trying AR. I said sure, I didn't care because I do most (80%) of my deer hunting elsewhere. Now I have a food plot and trail cameras up on my piece. In my 9 years on my property, the biggest buck I have seen is a 5 point. That is with all of my treestand time and trail cam photos. I've seen plenty of spikes and assorted scrub bucks. Now I cannot be the only person who has property like this. Do we say to these land owners that you cannot kill a deer on your property because they are small? I think that sends a bad message. Keep it voluntary.- 1885 replies

As you all know, New York does not have a budget yet and is starving for cash. It seems as though the NY Troopers are fishing in grey areas for a traffic ticket. Lately they are pulling people over and giving out $250 tickets if people are leaving their trailer hitch in the receiver. There is no such law! If you get pulled over, arm yourself with this article, http://www.wktv.com/news/local/95641864.html I know a local LEO and she has said that if they were looking for a reason to pull someone over they could get me because I have a trailer ball on my bumper. Why you ask? If they wanted to stretch the law they could say that it blocks their view of my license plate. I know its baloney but hopefully this can keep you from getting pulled over after a couple beers.
