  1. I've always heard is as a grand uncle or aunt. Either way congrats...
  2. Yrs ago I called for some property owners. They were seeing them in there fields, and could here them every evening and morning. They wanted a close-up. No guns, just hid in the bushes mid day. Called in a flock of 9 Jake's. Man did they put on a show. The wife still couldn't understand why anyone would want shoot one.
  3. Ya, wife and kids have that effect on cash.
  4. Several years ago I hunted a property that the owner gave the neighbors nephew permission to hunt. I was doing some scouting, and bumped into him. He said had video of himself calling in a few Tom's several times. Of course my warning of educating the birds wasn't taken seriously. In fact he said I didn't know what I was talking about, and he'd have his bird in 30 minutes on opening day, and his second the next day. Well, halfway through the season, he had nothing. The next day I went in late. Was walking out with a tom a hr later when he drove by. To say the least he was pissed. Truth is I seen the tom walking down a field edge, and just waited for him to walk by. Never made a single call. Landowner called me wanting to know why I shot the neighbors kids turkey out from under him. After explaining everything, he understood and told the kid he should learn something about what happened, not be pissed. Owner passed away the following yr, and the place sold to anti hunters.
  5. And both of us traded 30-30 for one. Mine had that blondish, tan birch stock. Didn't keep that long. Traded that on a Ruger M77 all weather in .270. Still have it.
  6. Marlin 336c my dad bought for my brother in the early 60's. It was given to me, and after a few yrs, I wanted something bigger and better. Traded it in for a Savage 110 .270. Had the worst piece of wood I've ever seen, but I bought it anyway.
  7. Been seeing a ton of birds in the fields. But still haven't heard a dam gobble yet.
  8. Things are finally starting to green up here. Probably mow some of my clients late next week.

    Drop away rest

    Stop shaking. Lol
  10. I'd use a one pin sight and be done with it.

    Drop away rest

I switched to a drop away few yrs back. Believe it's a QAD. Always used a prong style, so going to this wasn't a big leap. Just looked, it's a ripcord.
  12. Local parking areas were packed this morning. Ist time in many yrs.
  13. My lawn care season starts in May. I've called all my clients, and so far none have told me not to mow. I'll get out as much as possible, but don't think I'll have any extra time.

    Turkey loads

If you find some shells, and need to pattern, give me a shout. Plenty of room at my place to shoot. I'll see what I've got, but IIRC, I was getting low last spring.
  15. Just did a quick search. Only found a cantilever barrel. Several saddle types thought. Like you, my eyes are not what they used to be. Thinking a scope is a necessity, not just a want..
  16. I had one yrs ago. Put it in my back pocket, and sat down on a root. Instantly have a two piece call. It worked ok. I'd try it after trying a crow call with no response. Had a coyote howler too. Only used that once. Didn't realize there was a group of toms at the bottom of the ridge. They didn't answer anything. Think there still running today.
  17. How did you mount the scope? No drilling or tapping?
  18. Pygmy, here's a pic from last yr. Often thought about getting a new turkey getter, but this one works well. Sights are not stock.
  19. Makes sense. It's probably a unconscious result once that target shrinks. I miss shooting a recurve. Unfortunately my shoulder would only allow a very low poundage, and a few shots at best.
  20. Yes. Same one. Killed a lot of gobblers with it.
  21. Never used the 4x6. I agree the pattern wasn't the best, but my factory choke from my 11-87 nwtf did ok with them. Shoot a jellyhead choke now. Don't recall the number tho.
  22. I believe they were the Remington Duplex loads. I used em, and wouldn't be surprised if I've got a couple lost in a box somewhere.
