24 to 38 feet, all fixed stands have at least 6 climbing stick sections most have 7 to 10 sections. i use a strapper retrieval ( I think thats what its called) for a bow hoist, I carry a 15 foot piece of rope to add to the strapper as its only 30 foot. when I use the climber i generally just use the strapper and go up till i run out of strapping at 30 feet.

For non revokeable offenses points can be added so if you accumalate enough non recordable violations they can revoke your license. Sent from my LGL58VL using Tapatalk

I don' know about that last part could be the person doesn't know that fall turkey does not over lap with crossbow season. The law is above that and as stated possession of an unlawful weapon while deer hunting is a violation. Bottom line is each is responsible for knowing the law, if you get caught its your license that's going to be revoked or points added to it. Sent from my LGL58VL using Tapatalk

the answer is right there in writing. possession of a crossbow while deer hunting before the actual crossbow season is open makes it an illegal weapon, doesn't matter if its legal for turkey, small game , yotes or anything else, its possession of a crossbow while deer hunting prior to crossbow season for deer. The way this reads is that you can carry a bow for both species because bow is a legal weapon for BOTH species being hunted. your chances of getting caught are probably low and its your personal decision if you choose to carry both just as its anyone else that reads this and chooses to carry both but if you are caught it will result in a ticket just as it has for hundreds of people that have been caught hunting with a crossbow before the crossbow season is open, whether people want to believe it or not it is happening far more than you think.

Wow, I honestly can not even believe what I have read here, I have read some pretty crazy ideas from you but wolc,,,, this one takes the cake! So now because some kid says something about a deer, but yet nothing else in the released reports indicate anything involving a deer you take it as gospel and come on here and tell everyone here that if we pass up deer we ARE part of the problem. maybe you should start practicing with the vertical bow so you can try to start killing deer earlier, heck that will give you another bambi tag also. This is about as stupid logic as was the antlerless only 2 week season of a few years ago, it doesn't matter if you gave out 1 million antlerless tags, there is too much closed land so you cant kill deer when you cant have access to them. Whether or not a deer was involved is irrelevant, this is nothing more than a tragedy for the family but to make it your mission to take it out on wildlife as your own personal vendetta against the deer would make people question your sanity! There are far more humans killed every day by alcohol and drugs, not just drunk or impaired drivers but every day use of both drugs, use of those drugs is a personal CHOICE. So using your logic if you drink alcohol you ARE part of the problem!

had my fishing customer out duck hunting this morning, him being from florida was not impressed with the cool wet weather. but like you guys what should of been a good duck hunting day was actually pretty lousy day for flights, although I did get some giggles in watching him miss some chip shots on some woodies and green wings. He even laughed when I suggested waiting for some mallards since they are larger targets making them easier to hit LOL

good luck guys. have fun and be safe.

the issue here is overlapping seasons, while yes its perfectly legal to carry 2 legal implements during a legal open season for a specific animal its not legal to carry one legal weapon for one game animal and a different one for another when animal #1 weapon is not legal for animal #2. you can not possess illegal ammunition while legally engaging in hunting for a specific species where the use of that ammo is deemed illegal, ie slugs, lead shot, wrong size shot etc. for your shotgun, or a shotgun with all the the legal ammo for said shotgun for waterfowl hunting and then possessing slugs just in case you see a deer. The bigger issue here is with waterfowl violations you now fall under both state AND federal charges. There have been quite a number of people arrested for carrying a crossbow during the closed part of the crossbow season (earlier than the last 2 weeks) since this whole crossbow deal started back in 14/15. Dec writes tickets and they are upheld in court, and last I knew squirrel opens sept. 1st. I guess their excuse of I was hunting squirrels wasn't bought.

Im well aware you do not need a ml lic. to hunt turkey with an xbow, no different than not needing a archery stamp or course to hunt turkey with a bow. was a crossbow even a legal hunting implement 5 years ago? anyone have an old book? edit, I just looked it up, first legal appears to of been 2011/2012 season for regular deer season and late muzzleloader season, 2013/14 approved for small game, last 14 days of archery again in nys currently a crossbow is treated as a muzzleloader. see license requirements section. http://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/68802.html
-
likely the reason it is illegal is because currently the "crossbow" falls under the laws of muzzleloading firearm, hence the reason you have to have the muzzleloader stamp to use one during the traditional archery season. the laws listed in the regulations book you receive when purchasing your license in no way shape or form have all of the encon laws listed.

Been watching him since daylight. He's working his way towards his exit trail from yesterday. I was so engrossed in the spotting scope I never saw the little 7 point that walked right up to the passenger side truck window. I looked over and there he was 2 feet from the window looking at me..lol No bear yet so I will see if that changes his exit location. Sent from my LGL58VL using Tapatalk

Another long range scouting morning for me. Watched a good buck yesterday morning with 28 doe and 2 other decent buck and 4 small buck all working a cut field. The good one exited the field and headed where I thought he was going in the mornings so with all that's going on and not being able to commit to a good hunt its strictly a scouting morning before climbing back up on the tractor to mow. Hopefully the bear doesn't come out again this morning and get the deer all nervous. Good luck to those out hunting. Sent from my LGL58VL using Tapatalk

Today was the start of the mentored youth hunt in pa. My grandson scored at 730. Had a hog of a doe get chased into the woods by the double brow tined 7 point I passed up Monday evening. Then she stepped out of the goldenrod 5 feet from and spooked taking 3 other buck an 21 more doe with her. 5 minutes later another antlerless deer walked out and he got himself all in position and when the ole .243 barked the deer dropped in its tracks. Did great for being 10 years old. Prefect shot at 100 yards. Sent from my LGL58VL using Tapatalk

I was at full draw on a 130s 8 point last night at 12 yards but instead of taking 1 more step into an opening on the travel corridor he bolted after the doe. Then had to set till 8:10 pm as I had him, 2 other good buck and 14 doe all around me and the wouldn't leave the white oaks till 8pm. Was finally able to ease down the tree with the climber and slip out without spooking them. Sent from my LGL58VL using Tapatalk

First time setting in this spot. Made a travel corridor 3 years ago and the bucks seem to like it. 50-60 rubs all through here. Had a fox squirrel jump onto my oak tree and I felt the tree shake, he is the size of a small cat. Only 9 doe so far but its early and its warm tonight. Hopefully I didn't have another bear visit this evening. Lol. Sent from my LGL58VL using Tapatalk

Again I never said a word about ethics. my original statement stands I do not bowhunt in the rain. Doc, look at some of the waterfowl gear, that gear is generally produced for inclement weather. I took an old set of early season waders and cut the boot section off and put those on with a non leaky boot. they fit snug and keep your lower extremities dry and warm, altho not something I would walk all day in. one thing not to skimp on is a good goretex hat, if you can keep your head and neck warm and dry that is half the battle. what I do duck hunting is I have a lighter waterproof wader jacket/sweatshirt on over the waders, then i put my good heavy waterproof coat over my shoulders and put the hood up but don't put my arms in the sleeves, its kind of like how the football players stand on the sidelines in inclement weather. just as in bow hunting swinging a shotgun on birds you have to have good form and less restriction to shoot accurately. when ducks come in i simply shed the overcoat and shoot, im sure you could do the same type of deal by dropping it onto the seat.

I never said a word about ethics. I didn't "bash" any product, we have been hearing about the almighty csi blood glow for well over a year but yet even though he has killed deer he is still waiting for the opportunity to use it, I simply asked why he didn't mix a batch up on a recovered deers blood trail and try it so its KNOWN whether it works not waiting till its "needed" to find out it does not work as advertised. Im done with this, my apologies to DOC for trashing his thread.
