Like was mentioned....the amount of $$$,time off work,travel..once in a lifetime shot at a trophy..restring it,period.Take an extra bow too. What if you are out the first day and you have a nasty fall and do damage to your "only" bow? Hunted Wyoming 3 times, self guided,6 guys and about a dozen or so rifles.....1 bad mistake can ruin a trip for a hunter. Also was mentioned was to get in shape....I don't care if you jog and pump iron every day.....when you get in the mountains "out there" every 20 -40yrds will have you gasping for oxygen....just look at elk footage when they are running....their mouth is open and the tongue is dragging the side of their face...it's a whole different world. Best of luck out there!

Dragging a deer in knee deep snow would be insane, I'm sure that hurt... ...in no way did I mean to take away from your awsome thread, and you have 110% of my respect,Sir. ....and yes,it hurt bad....school girl bad..LOL. Your story is great and I wish my dad was here today to share that with....he would have been very proud of your efforts for sure! Any day,in the field or otherwise,is a great day with your dad. Thank you for sharing this story. -

"....walking in knee deep snow for a few hours is no joke" Had to drag a doe out 1 time under those conditions and I'm sure(nope, I know) I cried like a little school girl when I finally reached the cabin. But.like you said, good exercise. -
USAR 1982-88 Served in Troop C 9th Cav as a 4 deuce mortar gunner (From Wiki) On 1 February 1964, Troop C, 9th Cavalry was activated as an armored cavalry troop assigned to the US Army Reserve, assigned to the 157th Infantry Brigade (Mechanized). Initially activated in Bristol, PA, on 31 January 1966, it was later moved to Wilkes-Barre, PA. The troop continued to serve with the 157th Infantry Brigade (Mech) until deactivation on 20 August 1995.[3] Also served in the 814th Supply/repair parts in Hazleton, not sure if it is there anymore.

New York Land and Lakes
Single_shot replied to BigGuyNY's topic in Land For Sale, Lease, and Requests
No offense taken. Try to imagine a price of $29,995 for 7ac and a new cabin in NY on a river vs. the same in Pa....you can't touch good hunting property here for under $10K/ac. -
2 bucks on cam 1 right now!!!!!! And on cam 3 we have a coon. The one lost a horn jsut off camera and I think that is a horn laying there from him too?

I have seen for some time now,the old warhorses selling for that or more.......so to me ,the price seems correct. Look at the prices on a new Kimber! That will activate the pucker muscles much. It is a fine looking weapon and would'nt mind having one.....but priorities rule otherwise. You want to see something REALLY wild...check this out! http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=206871796#WINNER

why isn't there a spring season? and should we start one?
Single_shot replied to G-Man's topic in Bear Hunting
Yum! Boot stew! ;D My bear was just fine in the crock pot, wish I had more. As far as a spring season,I say no. Too many "trigger happy hunters" out there would shoot females with cubs. JMHO. It happens enough as it is. -
A black bear isn't as hard to kill as what you may think. Yes you need some umph behind the round, but a quallity bullet and proper shot placement are key. I would have no problem taking my Knight for bear with 2 trple 7 pellets and a Barnes head.I would though, limit my shot to a max of 150yrds. That would be my personal limit. Others here may easily feel ok with a 200yrd shot with more powder etc. Placement and a quality round along with how confident you are with your rifle all make the difference.

Both cam 1 and 2 are with bird now!
