If I remember correctly, you might have a mount coming back eventually too... -

I'm planning on mounting David's bow buck next weekend. I'll send your piebald hide home with it towards the end of January. -

I take pics on the barn because I like the natural lighting. The arch-like areas are from where I use the brass brush to groom the back of fur behind the form. -
Here we go again...first head of the 2019 season headed out the door. Beautiful full sneak early season 141" Schuyler County buck.

Yes they did. Got a couple of their skull plates hanging on my shop right now...

I've seen a couple of those deer up close and personal...lol. I need to get out of Steuben County and venture a little further north in Region 8!
-
It would be unique...like the dead pose mount laying in a truck bed...lol
-
If you like it that's all that matters. Personally, I just find is chessy... but you know what they say about opinions? Lol

That wall habitat kit from McKenzie is like $86...bet the shipping is an extra $50-60. They are ridiculous!!!
-
I prefer just straight up shoulder mounts over off the wall stuff. I don't think that I've had a request for plaque in the past two seasons.
-
Nope. Didn't hear of anyone else killing him either so I'm hoping he's going to show up again.

Hard to tell from the overexposed pic that was posted...but, looks like the antlers may actually be in velvet still?

Good article... http://www.iwla-rh.org/html/DGIF_articles/deer_antlers.html

You really can't determine his genetic potential compared to the other too. I'd say he was a late born fawn with poor nutrition. Out here in Region 8 I see lots of great yearlings...and lots of poor ones too. In years with a late spring greenup like the past two years...I see way more spikes as a result of the stress from the lack of spring nutrition.

Getting him mounted?

Was measuring the cape for this deer yesterday and was blown away by the size...8" eye to nose x 23.5 x 26 x 30! They said he dressed 241.5 at the processors two days after it was killed. I wrote it off as an exaggeration but maybe not? My friend in the pic is 6'4"...

Conflicting reports on the topic. I myself believe the second theory... https://www.deeranddeerhunting.com/blogs/dan-schmidt-deer-blog-whitetail-wisdom/whitetail-antlers-the-hole-truth https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/4950440/Re_Whitetail_deer_antler_beam_

Pretty sure it was just an injury to the growing antler in velvet.
-
Capes vary alot. I try to match as close to the size/coloration of the original as possible when I need to use a replacement cape. I can pick up on the subtle little differences easily but most people are clueless. The difference in the capes from early October til late season are huge. I like mid October the best. Just mounted this one up over the weekend...gorgeous Oct 9th bow kill with a double throat patch.

AGREED!!!
