  1. All my deer have come from either 8P or 8R, but I did venture into 8X for a season.
  2. You must have me mistaken for someone else...all the big deer live up in Mendon .
  3. His '19 buck is in the shop. Just had a guy back out on his mount so I happen to have a big mature spare cape available now...lol
  4. I hear there's a good one in Bloomfield and Canisteo...
  5. Great write up! I've got a buck right now that I have 7 yrs of history with. He looks healthy going into the winter. I'm super pumped to see what he's going to do this year at 8 yrs old! PS, you need to mount those sheds...lol
  6. Nothing beats the looks of an early October cape...
  7. Ohio Taxidermy Supply. They're basically all I use and the only forms that I'd mount my own deer on!!! Just sent this one home yesterday...
  8. At least equal to but it depends on cape "shaving", the thinner the leather the more you can stretch it. Too much loose skin is as bad as too tight. Here's a typical 170# dressed buck on top at 7.25 X 19 X 22 × 24 versus a 241 lb giant at 8.5 X 24 X 28 X 30.5!!! Had to order a new form for that one...head was way too loose fitting to dry properly.
  9. I measure the cape after tanning...they do stretch once the hide gets thinned.
  10. Should I get pics of him this coming summer/fall it'll be 8 yrs of history on cam...something that I'm sure I'll never repeat with another deer in NY.
  11. I really need to radio collar him and find out just where he holes up during gun season. It would be really interesting to know...
  12. Looky who I caught leaving the standing corn this morning. It appears that the saga of Big 6 with continue into 2020. Please drop those antlers nearby!!!
  13. I'm a part timer too...makes it tough.
  14. I took in 30 deer this year and gave customers a general time frame of spring for archery deer and by next season for gun kills, though I do plan on having them done by summer. Except for Moog's...lol.
  15. I just sent my first mount of the '19 Season home on friday...October 8th bowkill. Honestly, could have had it ready a month sooner If I'd pushed things. My buddy who does my tanning only takes 1-2 weeks to get capes back. That's where alot of the holdup comes from.
  16. There was a thread about this topic on here a couple weeks ago. I believe that these holes are caused by injuries to the antler in velvet such as a stick poking into it... https://www.realtree.com/all/articles/antler-trivia
  17. They're incredible animals for sure. Don't have the pics on this phone...I discovered a broken off arrow shaft with a G5 montec embedded in the shoulder of my 2016 bow buck. It was from the previous season but the most interesting part was that the head was lodged in coming OUT of the shoulder blade at the exit side. I only discovered the broadhead as I was quartering the deer to butcher it and I couldn't cut the front leg off with a knife. Upon closer inspection my knife blade was hitting the arrow shaft and I discovered the tip of the broadhead just under the skin surface. I have no idea how an arrow penetrating through the chest cavity didn't kill him? I watched this deer all summer and I never noticed him limping because of it. It took a knockoff $1 RAGE Chinadernic to get the job done...lol.
  18. I didn't examine it too closely but it definitely wasn't a lethal hit. My friend who shot the deer with a bow and then later killed it with a gun is a forum member here. If I remember correctly, this arrow wound may have even been a touch lower than the one pictured.
  19. Semi-upright (right pic) seems to be the most popular followed by semi-sneak (left)...
  20. Thanks. Typically, I only do maybe one full sneak a season...think I had 7 this year!
