Had that happen yesterday with three different longbeards. They put on a good show at least. Stay after them. -

Two missed opportunities for me too. Makes me sick just thinking about it. Still in disbelief over it... -

Damn, fun day...no bird down but lots of gobbling and three different longbeards hanging up just out of range. Beautiful day to be in the woods. -

Damn, thought I had him. He made it to 40 yds but was too thick to shoot. Followed the hens off... -

Swing and a miss for me too yesterday morning on a great bird...sucks! -
Same deer three years in a row..

Picked up three sheds on my late morning hunt. Numbers two and three were from two different deer/two different years...only 10 ft apart. You can see both in the first pic...

It's brittle strands from lack of melanin. The beard is actually a form of modified feathers. Jake's always have amber tipped beards. They will eventually wear off as the beard continues to grow.

I'm also a member of the "woke up but went back to bed this morning club" too. Got out at 7:00...messed with a couple of hens. Headed back out around 10:00. Can't kill one from the couch! !! -

Dead quiet here. Thinking of trying another spot. -

All set up in a blind right wear the two longbeards came from/left towards yesterday morning. Hope they don't like the new jake that's hanging out with the ladies. I killed one in this very spot last time I hunted it with the same setup. Should be gobbling soon... -
Congrats! Was so close to killing one this morning I get disgusted every time I think about it... Tip: start measuring from the 1" mark

So, so, so close this morning...my wife passed on a iffy shot...proud of her for holding back. Redemption tomorrow! !! -
Bird roosted. Hope he plays the game in the morning!
-
My wife and I will be out. I'm the guide / caller and she is the shooter should the opportunity present itself...
-
Nice! Got my new bow a couple weeks ago. Haven't had the chance to get it perfectly tuned yet...
-
Been there. I've had them spitting -drumming right above me in the tree too.
-
Every season, at least a couple of times, I'll get TOO close to them in the roost to call. They hardly ever fly down with in range when this happens.
-
My tactic is to get as close to a roosted bird as possible. I'll hit him will some soft tree calls and wait for him to fly down. Then I'll call start calling again. A majority of my birds are taken prior to 6:00. There is no secret method that works every time.

New sights: really like the rear peep!
