Also picked up this guy on my best farm this year. Looks to have some cool, curved tines. I would definately introduce him to a Rage hypodermic!!!
-
He doesn't appear to have giant potential but still cool to see...

I hunt both 8P And 8R in the northwestern corner of the county. Hardly any permits given out in 8P but they hand them out like candy in 8R. Last year my wife and i had 8 dmps for 8R (only used one).

Nice, I never even noticed that!!!

See ya later Velvet...It's off!!!

I got a couple of hardhorned bucks on today's card checks too!!! -
Think about this...I've killed 21 deer with a bow in the past 10 seasons and only two had antlers!!! I feel that I have a legit chance of encountering at least one pope&young class buck every season but that doesn't mean that I get to kill one every year.

Thanks. Just doing deer for now!!! I'm not posting any rates as I don't know the policies of this site. Any one interested can PM me.

I may throw a coat of poly on it. I'm thinking about doing a wall in the other room with it too...it's not cheap though!

Very cool buck!!!

It's been a hectic summer with my wife and I getting our living room remodeled. We added a wall to the living room and created an office for me that attaches to my work room. Few pics... Added a couple of drying walls The work room still needs some work. I plan on doing that this spring after I make some money of the venture. Not sure about what I'm going to do with the walls yet, need to add a sink too... Horn porn!!! We'll see how it goes. I have lots of connects around here that are promising to bring me their deer...lol

My hunting year goes like this: Starts of in January scouting for shed season...Late January - Early April is primetime shed season...April mornings are spent scouting for turkeys...May will always mean turkey season to me...June begins trail cam season and evenings spent glassing/scouting the local bucks...followed by bow season, gun season, muzzleloader season and wraps up will post season trail cam inventory and the agonizing wait for shed season to get here again. There is no down time...I thoroughly enjoy all of it!!!!!

I don't think that I could ever get bored shooting a big buck every season!!! Granted,I am fortunate to live/hunt in one of the better areas in the state for both quality and quantity of deer...but this is still a LONG way from Iowa and opportunities at mature bucks are still rare. When all the pieces finally come together and you get to fill that prized tag out, it is quite a sense of accomplishment. Why would you stop wanting that feeling? It makes me more motivated to repeat that act again next season!

I hear you...the freezer is nearly empty...first couple does that I get in range are in trouble!
-
At least 3, possibly 4? Even the "experts" are just guessing. Without having history with the deer I know that I can't age them confidently.

Love those brows. Easy 150 +!!!

Nice ones. Good luck!

So, here we are a month away from bow season. Having a "Hit List" is all the rage these days. Any one else have a top hit lister picked out for opening day? My top priority in life right now is my wife and our daughter that is due two weeks from tomorrow! I can't believe that she's going to be here so soon, it's really nerve racking. To distract my mind a bit, I've really been focused on tagging an early season buck. I am so ready to get into a tree that I can't stand it!!! I have never really targeted a specific buck before, but going into this season I think that I have a good prospect lined up. I call this guy Brows (I believe he's 5 yrs old) he resided in this same corner of the farm last year too. Not a monster rack for his age but he has a HUGE body. I saw him standing 40 yds off the road last night with 4 other bucks...he is considerably larger in body frame. His body actually make his head seem small!!! His bachelor group has been very active in this clover field during the evenings all summer long. This daylight movement makes him very killable and an ideal early season candidate to pursue. I set a stand for him in the corner of this field a couple days ago. In a few weeks when the acorns start dropping and rubs/scrapes start popping up I will try to hang another set closer to his bedding area. If conditions are right, I really think there is a pretty good chance of him or one of his shooter buddies showing on Oct 1st!

Yes, he's 5...an old guy for around here!

I went to check cams yesterday morning and bumped into these guys out hunting grasshoppers (millions of them right now). It's nice to see some poult recruitment...counted 5 adult hens with18 poults. Kinda on the small side for this late into the summer. Hopefully, a few will grow beards and still be around in 2018! Strutting hen... Speaking of beards, this guy has my attention for next spring!!! Also happy to see Wannabe is still around. It's been the slowest trailcam seasonthat I've ever had at this farm. I think it's because the drought has taken a toll on the hayfields and the food just wasn't there like it usually is...

The region has great potential...no doubt!!!
-
Honestly, the age structure here isn't that great...most of the bucks in the pic are just two year olds. A couple appear to be 3 which is the norm for the area. Not whole lot of truly mature bucks running around here either. What we do have IS NOT the result of any widespread management efforts either.
-
He is far more impressive in person than in the pics! He looks like he has a double rack...one up...one down. My friend who got the pics actually saw him for the first time Sunday night standing 30 yds off the road. He's getting more trail cams another buddy is putting trail cams up...I'm borrowing a HD videocam. Hopefully we can get him on film again!
-
Been seeing a couple of nice ones in the beans on the corner.
-
I wish I could show you pics of a local buck that a friend is chasing...a triple droptined giant!!! I've seen him three times in the past week...it's the most impressive deer I've ever seen on the hoof. We are working on getting better pics of him. He is simply unbelivable!!!
