Cva run a tight bore maybe .502 to .503 . Having a qla will help with being able to start bullet by hand . Now someone smoke one !!! -

My go to for duck /goose hunting. Hey Christmas is coming .. https://www.mackspw.com/

You hunt ducks long enough in inclimate weather you'll see that a pump is the better choice over an autoloader . That Stevens will suit you just fine . We hunt the mohawk river along vishers ferry , I shot a banded mallard from Tennessee in 1996. Pretty cool to get one and see its history of travels. It was 3 years old . You think deer are fast wait to you try shooting teal or wood ducks .. Wood duck boxes are a nice winter project we do them every few years for our pond .

Cover the muzzle with a balloon or tape and try to keep barrel pointed down. As for rust I wipe it down like any firearm after the hunt is over Are you using a 209 primer ?
-
4 shot is a good overall non toxic size , 2s if your using steal. At least that's the success I've had in my mossberg 835 ulti mag with modified choke . You don't need to go 3.5 shells . Our pond last weekend of gun up north

Duck hunting is a blast we do it on our pond the first two weeks in October. Kids like it because it non stop action. Not a steel shot fan but it's the cheapest . I loaded up on hevi shot when it first came out, I'm a huge fan of that. When we were younger we use to play cards for shotgun shells, that could get expensive these days .

The faster you push them the more they fragment, the slower you push them more mushroom.

Just the opposite in all my testing I've done on them.

Have had great luck with cor locks in several rifles . My mini 30 is a tack driver with them My most hated bullets are power belts used for muzzleloaders. About the only thing they would be good for is dental fillings !!!!

So really no downside it appears. Cost doesn't seem to bad . Debating on doing my lc9s

Don't over look vortex scopes ,they have some very impressive scopes in their lineup. I too have been thinking of upgrading an older nikon buckmasters scope for same reasons you stated .
