  1. You nailed it. If it wasn't for the trails you couldn't hunt it. Can't hardly walk thru it and when you do it's getting cut and scratched up and swampy. Lots of deer trails thru the thick but no way to shoot into it. And yes hardly any trees . We put up stands on the ones we can and along property line. It's all wetlands that have grown in. And can't cut any trails into it either. Biggest problem for gun is there is nothing to hold deer here. Once everything is dead no food for them and nearby are fields and a golf course. So they are just gone after the rut. Tough gun hunting . During bow there are some good ones about and it's ok hunting but gun esp after opening weekend is usually a bust. Haven't seen a deer in 10 days in daylight.
  2. Dead quite here so far. Buddy Corey is about 500 yards to my west . Hoping to here a shot from him.
  3. Went to my fav local place where I usually get ammo, just for the hell of it. They always have the basic stuff I need for deer guns. They didn't have much left last time I went and this is how it looks now. Crazy.
  4. My bow spot opens back up for muzzleloader. I don't gun hunt there. And there are AG options of all kinds up there in the area. Late season and food give me some hope . Hopefully a couple of the big boys I had on cam in bow season made it thru gun season.
  5. Hunt #39 12/4 7F light -11:30. Point stand Saw nothing. Pulled 4 cameras for the year. Pretty much nothing on them, other than a stray doe at night here and there. Not a single buck pic since Thanksgiving. I'm prob about done with gun season. Maybe 1/2 day tomorrow and then not until next weekend if Corey wants to do a push for the last weekend one morn. But ..... Stay tuned for muzzleloader. Got feeling a good one is gonna drop.
  6. Warmer than I thought it would be this morn. Out to give it a go.
  7. Yeah but I don't think he was worried about getting it thru his belly button.
  8. You stayed above the fray. It's good to be tall.
  9. Yeah def too far and that's a promising young one for next year. I shot a 6 this year but he was a 2.5. You might have another nice 8 there next season.
  10. Good luck on the fox in the morn. You'll find him. No shot on the six point? Back in the woods and making it happen!
  11. Hunt #38. 12/3 1-dark. 7F scrapetree stand. Nice afternoon to be in a treestand. Saw two does on the way out between me and the road. No shot of course and holding out for a buck now or at least until end of muzzleloader.
  12. Sucks man but it happens. I would always say it's worth another look. Even if you still hunt while doing it. So hard to tell sometimes. Could be leg like others said , did she fall when u hit her? Walking away hunched up make me think a low hit and not leg if she didn't fall or was limping, esp if bone and leg broke. But so hard to tell. Give it your best is all you can do.
  13. Still shooting downward though. Could have been low and clipped a rib. This the white hair and bone. Deer are tough . Even if you got one lung they will go a long ways. Usually a hunched up deer is a sign of gutshot.
  14. We're you in an elevated stand? Sounds like brisket
  15. Beautiful afternoon. Almost overdressed til the sun starts to fade I am sure. There is a 99.9999999% chance I won't see anything. But it is also 99.9999999% better than working.
  16. Hunt #37. 12/3. 7F scrapetree stand . Light -10:30. Deer tracks in snow on way in, nothing big. Pulled cam cards and two does st midnight went thru. No bucks since Thanksgiving night on cam The wide boy went thru that night. Didn't see anything. Quick break to get warm and charge phone then back out.
  17. I'm out. Actually saw a set of tracks on the way in. Small but a deer. Hoping one walks the woods road today. Haven't seen a deer since opening weekend. And have yet to see a buck here. So not a lot of hope but giving it a shot.
  18. That big boy is gonna pair up good with Biz's envy buck on your wall . Nice buck and great story and looks like a freezer filler too.
  19. Yeah that's much better. Should get 50+ lbs back . 37-40 is ridiculous Nice haul. And glad you can post pics of the finished product now too.
  20. Gonna be a cool mount with that in there. Like a banded duck.
  21. I was thinking the same. Looks perfect for a string of 8" brookies.
