I have $40 in credit at bass pro. Think I am gonna pickup a 4 pack of goose floaters. Then thinking me and two other guys are gonna rent a cabin in the dacks and goose hunt am and fish pm in September. 3 of us shooting, one of us ought to hit one. If not we will laugh til it hurts I am sure. Good time either way. Also gonna do a little checking into a field or two around here for hunting. Thanks for all the info. Will prob have more questions. Always wanted to try getting into some waterfowl.

Will these work....since I already have them...
-
If season was open round here in March I would be even more in. Wish I could hunt in March.
-
yeah that would be great - I hoping for one or two . I bet i can miss 15 though lol
-
Dunno if they will get it back at this point. Fella there said they were out of compliance for 21 days. Not thinking the feds are gonna apprecaitte that.
-
im thinking of getting a set of floaters to use and then if I use them in a field to they might look like they are bedded there.
-
thats a great idea! thanks much. and thanks for the 200 pounds too! lol I wish. Yeah I would prob look like a squatch out there ready to pounce. just texted a buddy and we are thinking of going up to the dacks for a couple days of days of goose hunting ams and fish pm's. Whether we get anything or not - would be a hoot.

i bought some duck decoys a couple of years ago thinking that i would do a little duck hunting after i got a deer for the freezer, but now i realize that will prob never happen cause i am chasing big bucks then. And by the end of deer season everything here is about iced up and my boats are in storage. But sept I cant hunt deer so want to get out for some hunting. I am still also scouting for a little early bear again but that just seems like a needle in a haystack.
-
if i hunt a field do you think I can get away with brushing in on a tree line and have them come in close enough for a shot? generally would think they prob tend to go more towards the middle of field , but if I have decoys will they come in to treeline for close enough shots? This way wouldnt have to buy a layout blind can just make a brush one.

sounds like a super time for sure!! Yeah am worried it becomes an addiction cause I am weak and already have so many! lol But want to try it out. I have addictions to a bunch of fish and whitetail already. So just want to break it up with a day or two of goose in sept. Would like to start small and I have a pond in mind to try out on some state land. Will look for a field and permission to try it out. One spot I bow hunt the land owner has mentioned another field she has that fills up with geese but dunno if its close to the road? I really dont want to but a ton of decoys etc. Is there a good set that can be used for land or sea?

been thinking for the last couple of years that i would like to get into some goose hunting in Sept. Its too long between turkey season and bow season. I have tried a little early bear without success and was thinking of some Sept early season geese. Any pointers out there on this? I really have to find a spot of course but I am only looking to hunt once or twice in sept and dont want to buy 5000 decoys and layout blinds and moving decoys and 16 honker calls etc. Just want to try for them a bit. In sept is it mostly resident geese? and should I be looking to try to find water or fields to hunt? do i even want to bother with decoys? Any help is appeciated. And i do have a spot to hunt on my lease land but am real hesitant about going there and shotgunning right prior to the bow opener. Cause thats my bread and butter.

so they still dont have the FFl back. So went to bass pro and ordered the rifle yesterday there. After i argued with the 20 year old gal at the desk that looked like she was 15 and knew about as much about guns as I do about mascara. She said we cant sell the bushmaster in NY - I told her its on the website that you can and its a 4 shot. Told her its the ranch rifle - etc. So then I called the Auburn store and they said they can order it. So I had to tell her they said they would order it for me from their store. Then got someone else to look it up and got it ordered. So then I asked about ordering ammo as well and they did that no problem. Dunno if I am supposed to get this gun. lol

have to add to chimney mtn. If you decide to go get the lakeside cabin. It sits the most by itself and right on the water. The pic of bass was one morning at the end of sept. with 2 other guys for a shore lunch. Best day ever on the lake was me and another guy in boat - 76 bass. (didnt keep any) No motors of any kind allowed on the lake.

The battle,over gun rights
Robhuntandfish replied to Nomad's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
There will always be bad people to do bad things. The answer is to protect our children as well as we do our banks, airports, social security offices, football stadiums etc etc. And hopefully this occurs somewhere in the back and forth of what do we do. -

It is not a conspiracy to take your guns . There are 8.6 milion people that have gone or participated in gun protests. There are 5-6 million NRA members ( both est) the rest are in between. Any don't care, don't vote and won't act. No one is coming for ypur guns. There isn't a secret liberals meeting to take your guns any more than we have secret NRA meetings. Most people just live their lives with their own opinions and most don't want to take all the guns from hunters , even most liberals believe it or not. But when school children get shot we all want to do something about it. Amd people that dont hunt will not care or listen to an argument of why you need a Rambo looking gun. We will all be able to hunt still in our lifetimes. And we all will follow the laws that come up in between because that's who we are. Bit don't expect the NRA to do anything more than they already have. The change on society is also not going to increase NRA numbers or power. Just don't be naive and think the progression of increased laws is going to stop, we will all live with them still. Let's all hope that somewhere all the line there is some inceased security at the schools and these things are on the decline. And if we can't have an AR as a side effect it is one I can live with. -

Def in agreement there. Just my point is that people want the NRA to stop these laws. They just aren't going to. Its bigger than them. All they can do is hope to slow it up and will never get them to go back. But yes without some voice the progression goes even faster. -

It's for the same reasons of all laws. Laws are in place for the 5 percent of people that we need them for. Of course we don't want to give those things up but we prob won't have that choice. I am firmly against most legislation that gets introduced cause it always limits the freedoms of people. I am also an NRA member and supporter a member of a local Rod and gun club. But I also am a realist in that we are a declining group and age bracket. The NRA does good work but don't put the blame on them for not getting enough done. They are never going to stop the movement of society and legislation. But only can hope to contain it as much as possible. -
Pics for chimney mtn. The lake is called kings flow.
-
Chimney mtn cabins in Indian lake is just beautiful. It is really remote bit can drive right to it. It's on a dead end road and there is some nice hiking avail and the lake is loaded with largemouth. Google it and they have some nice cabins and it is very reasonable.

The battle,over gun rights

His argument was financial. And that's all that has slowed it up. Did the Constitution stop the safe act? Did it get overturned by the supreme Court? Yea NY has more gun laws, but not even Texas is moving to less legislation. It's not going back. It's a societal change. It still marches forward. Your not losing ypur guns today or tomorrow, but there will be more and more restrictions. It will never go the other way. -

If you don't think the NRA is losing then tell me why I can't have a mag with over 7 shots in it. Why can't I buy ammo at Walmart for a pistol without showing my pistol permit, why can't I buy a bushmaster in NY where they are made. Why can't I get a CCW permit for anyhting other than hunting , fishing, hiking or target. Etc etc etc. Gun laws have only moved in one direction. Again not the fault of NRA or hunters or you and I. Society has changed whether we like it or not. We are not the majority when we think AR' s should be legal. Parents don't want to fear for their children. That is stronger than any arguments we can make. It will continue to be a slow progression for the most part and move more when the topic is hot. But legislation and restrictions will always be introduced along the way. We arent going back to the days of the wild west with guns on our hips. The NRA can only hope to slow it at best. It is important, it can be somewhat effective, but we aren't going back. It's naive to think otherwise. -

That may be true. But I don't know about you but I don't think a half hour goes by at work that people are talking about this. It's the lead story on the news, it's in everyone's mind right now. And yes in a couple months people may forget or go on to other things but right now it is the hotest of hot topics. Therefore people are reacting to it asking for it and pushing for it right now. And more will be done in a month than NRA can undo in a year. Cause also after this the only people that care what the NRA does is you and I. What will the NRA do to free up legislation in the next year with there "deep pockets" ...nothing. legislation will not go in remission. It will only move forward and it moves when it's hot like this. See....the safe act... In reaction to Sandy hook. The NRA slows up legislation, maybe tempers it. When has it recinded it...also see safe act cause it's still there. And this is not the fault of the NRA or its members. It's the change in culture that we face.
