I hear ya. I don't have 1 friend who hunts. I barely even know anyone around here who hunts. Everyone around here thinks its a "hick" thing.

By the way, do they even make the .300 savage anymore? Only did a quick search, but can't find anything. Did they discontinue this model? if so, why? Why would they discontinue such a great shooting cheap piece of junk?

If you did this test, the .300 wby mag would score better than the .300 savage. I have no doubt.

Knock on doors, offer $ (if necessary), etc. I hunt private 8 acres of land in Carmel behind some 90 year old lady's house. In CT, I got access to 12 acres (7 huntable acres) for $500 for the entire year, July - December, hunting season in 9/16-12/31. There are opportunities out there, just have to try. I probably sent hundreds of emails before I got a few maybe's and then 1 yes.

You are better off leasing land for yourself, then buying land that you only want to lease out and not hunt on anyway. You said your young, how young? You're worried about buying land before buying a place to live? Just noticed your from Putnam County. What town? I graduated from Mahopac in 2002.

Say you can only sight in your gun once and had to shoot at 50 yards, 100 yds, 150yds, 200 yds, 250yds, 300yds, 350yds, and 400yds with both guns. which gun would you shoot better with? The .300 savage with its 30"+ drop? lol. You would be way more accurate across the board with the .300 WBY Mag.

I am still young but am already looking forward to my investing future, several people I know think this is a good idea and I want to see what other peers thought. In the future when I am financially ready for my first, I would like to buy good sized lots of land all over New York. Real estate is a fantastic investment, especially land mostly because the value will most likely go up. I would really love to own property all over and be able to decide each year, ok where will we hunt this year? I think that it would be even better to scout the properties and lease off the ones I do not want to hunt to at least cover the taxes...which would be the worst and possibly destroying part of this plan. I know I still have a ways to go, but does this seem like a solid plan of some sort? Doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever. Buying property and then leasing it to others to hunt? whats the point? Why buy multiple hunting properties in a state that gives you at most 2 buck tags and no other big game opportunities (except rare chance at a Bear)? Unless you are obsessed with NY Whitetails only, I say you take that same $ and explore hunting opportunities in other states while hunting a variety of game. Even just $10K could be 3 nice hunting trips out of state.

180 grain comparison: .300 savage = 2,350 ft/sec, 1,728 ft/sec @ 200yds .300 WBY Mag = 3,120 ft/sec, 2,866 ft/sec @ 200 yards Would you like the major differences at 100, 200, 300, 400 yards, etc? The .300 savage has like double the drop in inches.

Hunted 2pm - dark. Neither me or my Dad saw a deer. Trail cams had no deer either. Wind probably didn't help, 15-25mph. First outing in CT without seeing a deer. I'll be back next Saturday. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
