  1. Fawn is still hanging out. I have some pee out, so maybe she will serve as a decoy? I can hope, anyway. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  2. This fawn is asking to be shot, but I will pass. Still 20 yds away. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  3. Out in 1c. Just had a doe and fawn come in downwind at 30 yds. They did not blow, but kept sniffing and then did a u turn. Wind was in my face when I hung the stand now it is a cross wind...wait...now it's at my back. Not good. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  4. 2 lone does. 1 headed east, the other west. They exchanged pleasantries and continued on. Neither showed interest in coming to my fawn bleat. Oh well. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  5. What looked like 6 does and fawns just trotted by at about 100 yds. Did not see any buck chasing them. Hmm. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  6. Out in 1c. Just had a decent 2.5 y.o. 8pt walk by at 60 yds. He stopped for the grunts but would not come in. Not a monster by any means, but tall g2s. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  7. The unit we applied for had 50-50 odds of drawing with zero points. My buddy did most of the planning and had contacts with at least one other guy who had hunted the unit previously. If one goes by statistics the success rate is about 25% for a ton of hunt hours, so not a very productive unit hence relatively low draw odds. Many deer are taken on private land also, so I went into this hunt knowing the odds were not in our favor. CO game and fish website gives lots of info if you do the research. We tent camped, but after that 0 degree night and with everything frozen solid, we went to a motel for the last 4 nights. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  8. I helped my buddy process his mule deer in the field. We did not debone it though as we were out of daylight. The extra time it took to debone the meat was not an issue today. Just not something we are accustomed to hunting in the east. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  9. I arrowed a small doe yesterday evening at the very last minute. #fromtheground. The shot looked good, but my tracking skills are not. Left it overnight and had an easy recovery this morning. Doe went less than 100 yds. Since I had game bags from my CO trip, I decided to debone the meat and pack it out. That was a first for me and it was easy. I'd certainly consider field processing again provided I had the time. Went back out for the last hour today, but saw nothing besides a couple people riding bikes through the woods, while talking loudly. Suburban hunting at its finest. 10. Well it's 4 and rain hasn't started yet in 1c. Will not break my heart if the rain holds off 'till dark 30. Not that I've seen any deer, but that can change any minute...or so I'm hoping. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  11. Congrats on the 100th! That's an impressive milestone even for your remarkable team. Thanks so much for the service you and your pooches provide. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  12. I flew into Denver and rented a pick up from there. I thought that I had put in a decent amount of practice. Put about 100 rounds downrange at 200 yards and my best groups were in the 5-6" range. I am mainly a bowhunter and pistol shooter and have only shot 4 deer with a rifle, most within 75 yds. Really there is no excuse for the misses....I simply flubbed the shots. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  13. Out in 1c and plan to sit until rain starts, which is forecast for 4 pm. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  14. Just got back from an eastern plains CO DIY public land mule deer hunt. We applied as a group (3 hunters) for 2nd rifle mule deer bucks back in March and were fortunate to draw tags with no points. We set up camp on Friday 10/25/19, with season opening 10/26/19. First day we split up and each covered a decent amount of ground averaging about 6 miles each without any deer sightings. We tried different ground the next 3 days and saw lots of critters, just no mule deer bucks. Highlight of the trip was seeing 3 big horn rams within 150 yards of the truck. Had a nice mature whitetail half rack 8 at 100 yds on day 3 who put on a show chasing does and grunting. Weather got progressively colder. Normal would be 60s for a high and 20s for low. We hardly got above freezing from day 2, had snow day 3 and hit 0 degrees by day 4 for a low with a steady 20 knot wind. Only the first and last days were close to normal. By 10/30 we were down to 2 hunters. After talking with some locals we targeted smaller patches of public next to crop fields. And we even got permission to hunt one of the fields. On 10/30 I saw over a dozen mulies including 1 definite shooter, one 3 by 3 (maybe shooter) and a forkie. Next day we were back where I'd seen the deer and my buddy got the 4x4 we were targetting in the field we had permission to hunt. I hunted the same public ground next to the field the next 2 evenings. I stalked the 3x3 and missed an easy 150 yd shot on 11/1. On 11/2 the forkie gave me an 80 yd chip shot, which I blew by shooting high. Still can't believe I missed clean at 80 yds, but I did. By 11/3 it was down to me alone. After checking the rifle, I sat the same area and only saw a doe and fawn. I am happy to scratch the DIY muley hunt off the bucket list and had a good time in spite of the unseasonably cold weather. I am also happy that my buddy tagged a real nice buck. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  15. This was how my sit ended. Little piebald doe came to within 10 yards. She got a pass today. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  16. 2 fawns and doe just ran by. No buck. Dunno what spooked them. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  17. Had 2 doe fawns downwind at 35 yards for the longest while. They seemed intrigued by the combo of my smell and ever calm. Just had a small 8 cruise by out of range. Showed no interest in my grunts. Nice to see deer up and about. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  18. I am out in 1C after a 9 day trip to CO to chase mulies, DIY on public. Will do a quick write up for those interested in out of state hunting thread. Bottom line...I missed 2 separate deer and my buddy got a nice 4x 4. Congrats to those who got one in the last 10 days. Browsing this thread I see some really nice bucks were taken. 19. Any hair? If very dark hair I would think above the spine, which would be non-lethal. Sent from my SM-G925V using Tapatalk
  20. Does not taste good, but you need to try it to know. Tastes like fishy liver (to me anyway), which is not a great combination. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Out for the 2nd sit of the season in 1c. Blew a bunch of deer out on my way to the stand. Have a doe out about 80 yds. We'll see how this develops. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  22. That deer on the top right is wowza. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk
  23. Ball and chain get reattached on 2/1/20? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
