  1. That turkey pic was taken, just before the turkeys vacated the area. Haven't seen a turkey in three weeks now. Plenty of food too. Not sure the reason. Going to miss all that turkey action, while walking past the stands this year.
  2. Got out yesterday to do much needed tree stand work. Took one stand down, for a paint job, raised several hang on into place, a final adjustment all the rest replacing quite a few tree straps. Got most of it done with the exception of lane trimming. Inspect your stands very carefully. I noticed some flaking paint on one end, a metal ladder stand named old faithful, third rung from the top. Upon further review, my assumptions were correct. Metal thickness was equal to aluminum foil at one end and would have not held yours truly. Will rework the entire stand, on the next rainy day and put her back into production.
  3. I think it has a lot to do with what food types are available at any given time. Here, if we get the right year, the deer feed into February on the tubers which were still quite edible . Last year, they even fed on turnips right into spring.
  4. I didn't notice the tarsal gland on that buck until after I posted. Even a few weeks early, for this area. And in a doe only area. Figures.
  5. Oats are in the boot. Some visitors that just couldn't resist. Frogs now living in the salad. I watched this little chipmunk pull and eat on a radish.
  6. 1- 5th pic, Daikon radish, oats mixture; planted late July. 4th pic vetch, oats, radish, and bluegrass mix planted first week of August. 6th pic, today Sept. 10th, nearly 16 inches tall.
  7. When did you plant those turnips? They sure look good!
  8. You must be getting itchy to get back in that stand, LOL.
  9. Good luck on this one. These cases end up with nobody being a winner. Hopefully, your prize is not missing tree stands.
  10. Older deer make good eating too. I take back the lean from previous post as all that corn will add fat, LOL.
  11. Around sixty pounds of lean meat in the freezer if you shoot, zero if you don't.
  12. Nice inch of welcome rainfall this morning. The timing can't be any better. You can almost see everything growing. A salad smorgasbord Shot more pics while the thunder rumbled in the distance. Hope everyone having success in growing! One interesting note, I parked a transport disc at one end of the field. An experiment. See how it affects wildlife. Deer have not visited that area, as of yet. Radish and oats are reaching knee high with blossoms showing on the radish. Deer are visiting every other area regularly. Turkey, woodchucks, skunk, weasel, raccoon, and crows are not affected. I'll move the disc, in the next week to see what happens.
  13. We got little over an inch since 9:30 this morning. Dropped the temps. and the humidity. Can't ask for any better growing conditions here. Cold fronts moving through rather quickly. Winds already starting shifting to the NW.. Hope you all get soaked, LOL.
  14. I make a lot of notes. Problem is, I forget where I put the paper, LOL.
  15. Nice daytime shot. That Stealth cam takes some decent pics. What model?
  16. Had a nice sit, last evening. Couple singles crossed with their mothers at 25 yards, one still sporting spots. A late hatch. Quite sure that one will sport spots during bow.
  17. My trusty 870 in 12. It's taken many a deer. The only gun I trust. Is there any other gun out there, LOL.
  18. All good things must come to an end. Deer came out last evening to say hello. A couple doe with single fawns, a few yearlings, and a handful of nice bucks. All while the tractors mowing the ditch.
  19. It's not uncommon to see spotted fawns right into firearms here, past years. I have a lot to add to this thread for this year, but not until I get a good accurate assessment. I know this year fawn numbers are way down. That a fact, and it worries me. Looked like good breeding numbers, last fall too.
  20. Have you looked into Bad Boys? The only thing the deer hear are the electric motor and tire noise.
  21. You have a larger problem here. Under NYS. law, you can be ticketed for baiting and or feeding deer, even though you didn't place the salt lick there. It applies even if you didn't know it was there during season. As long as your hunting within a certain distance of it, ECO's can nail ya. I would dam well inform my neighbor of it.
  22. Edible beans grow lower plants. Quite a few have planted around us, this year. Kidney and pinto are two types commonly grown locally.
  23. Little scary. I hope those using riffle use extreme care. Hard to judge, back in on the Iroquois where the county line falls. Those using rifle, be careful as, I'm sure the ECO's won't think twice about handing out tickets.
  24. I'd hunt it, no problem. The only worry I'd have was retrieving. Plant a crop not common to the area. Maybe radish oat mixture. Pull those doe in, and you will see bucks. Works for me, every season. Good luck!
