  1. I have Quickweed in some areas of new seeding hay fields. It likes loamy soil more than heavy. I cut the hay before the stuff goes to seed and that seems to hold it in check. I'm not a fan of sprays, but would think any pre emergence incorporated into the soil would only allow the growth of grasses. Any broadleaf planted, would be affected by the spray. We used 2-4-D on it , years ago, when we grew acres of oats for grain. I believe farmers are the only one permitted to buy it in todays world. As far as deer eating it, tends to be bitter, most animals leave it in the dry hay.
  2. Sorry to hear that! I lost a 10 cu ft one 5th of May.. Caught it in time though, and had to scramble everything into the other two. Luckily they were down on reserves, but had to move the hides out and gett'em tanned quick.
  3. Makes sense grow. These tax free zones are the biggest farce going. Since they don't cut spending, who do u think makes up the difference? Other property owners, of coarse. Albany still needs the money. I'll stop here, since this is a Cabelas thread. Shall we start a new thread?
  4. The big Lowes store sits empty right now, right across from Home Depot. Batavia had been growing a few years ago, not so much today. The brakes have been put on. As far as a Cabelas location, Walden Ave. in Cheektowaga, is an idea spot to draw NY, PA., OH, and Canadian customer alike. On a personal level, it may not be such a great location, as I may become "over drawn" alot, If it's anything like their Hamburg, PA. location, LOL.
  5. Special congrats to Woodsman 20 & GR8WhiteHunter. Nice job guys! Also congrats to all that got a turkey(s), ( some very nice birds taken) and to those that participated in the Spring Turkey Season in general. To me, you'll all winners. A big "THANK YOU " goes out to WNYBuckHunter for taking his time putting it all together and running a fine contest.
  6. GR8WhiteHunter came in with a beauty that hasn't been scored yet. It's going to be close!
  7. Beatiful bird, congrats. Can't imange what the smell is, but might be worth a phone call to DEC.. It's going to be close!
  8. The uniqueness of this bird is the fullness of the beards. It pretty rare to see 3 beards let alone 3 full ones. You must have something in the water, LOL.
  9. Yeh, the road can't handle the traffic now at certain times of day. Maybe the state will throw us an empty bone for that, LOL. I
  10. Excuse me for being skeptical, but Bass Pro was coming to Buffalo, until the planning board set so high standards, that eventually give up the idea. We have been dealt to many broken promises in the past to be a high believer in the future.
  11. Never in a million years, would of thought a rattler could get that large in the north. Seen a few small ones on state land, but thought our cold winters held them in check. Of coarse, we haven't had one in a while. The venom in that beast, one would think the person bit wouldn't have a high survival rate. Might be a good time to post snake bite treatment facts.
  12. Nice turkey. Congrats to him. A rare triple beard. Nice long hooks. Great genetics there.
  13. I feel like I got ........................... by the fat lady. This heat really knocked a lot out of me the last 2. The humidity, cut it with a knife, 90 degrees. The bugs are just multiplying like crazy with all standing water from mid week rains. Dang thermocell ran out a 9. Witnessed a gobbler, in a clearing with his butt to me, after twelve. Kinda ironic, a bitter sweet ending. You don't know how bad, I restrained................................. I can't wait till next May. Longbeard Madness all over again, LOL.
  14. Very hot and muggy this morning. Tomorrows going to be worse. Down to my shirt sleeves like the opening week.
  15. Yeh, I hear ya! I have an 18' my family wants me to put up, but can't get that excited about it. Was given to us, ( wonder why?) Hope we find out the liner shrunk so we can forget the whole deal, LOL.
  16. Don't know about anyone else, but I'm ready for bow season, come on crossbows! Maybe I'll shoot frog with a long bow, if that's legal. Gotta look in the book.
  17. Great price. The only thing bad is the LED"s fade, or go right out after a few years. The camera still useable, if left on the same settings, but can't set date and time without the display. A new LED 10- 15 bucks.
  18. I'll be out. Might as well make it 20 days, LOL.
  19. Nah, it happens. Shake it off! That box of shells has this years date on it, right?
  20. Looks like a large part of NYS. affected with lows in the 30's and 20's, on this Memorial day weekend.
  21. Good point! Had a hunter stalk me a few years back using the gobbler call.
