  1. A peep sight and release are the same IMO. But you do it a little different than that so kudos
  2. And shooting a compound at 70lb. draw weight with 80+% let off ain't difficult either. The fun and challenging part is the game of hunting.
  3. Shooting ain't hunting. I believe I read that on this forum
  4. I would say its hunting either way. I don't feel compound bow hunting is harder then crossbow hunting. You should try it before you decide.
  5. I am not sure of the brand. Bought 2 different length ones when I bought my sxs. Its a 2500lb. winch. A short one for plow and a longer one for if I get stuck. Really easy to swap. I carry both with me in a storage compartment.
  6. I am, but just got mine at the end of january. I have used it alot already with my plow, so far so good. I went with it cause cables rust and if it sits a lot without use I worried about the cable not being functional when I would need it.
  7. So you haven't, and you assume it's easier. I used a crossbow for the first time last year and for me it was not easier. It may become easier as seasons go but there are learning curves to the crossbow also.
  8. So who would you say that you personally know or have known. I agree with what you stated. We all use different scales to judge by.
  9. The subject of crossbow hunting got me to thinking who is the best hunter I know and why. I have known guys, and gals who hunt big game, and small game, who where family and friends. My father, who taught me almost everything from coon hunting, turkey, grouse, squirrel, rabbit, bow, and deer hunting who I appreciate the most, finished 2nd. The best hunter I know gun hunts deer only. He will go out any given time he chooses and kills a deer like he had it penned up. I have never seen him kill something I wouldn't be proud to put on my wall. It's pretty impressive. Who else knows someone like that.
  10. Have you ever hunted with the croosbow? Was it easier, or you just assume?
  11. I believe its the bow hunters against full inclusion cause somone else will kill "their" deer
  12. I also figure on some weed competition since I didnt kill off the weeds. My hope is to get clover established, spray with a weed killer that wont ruin the clover, mow then broadcast buckwheat, or something around the end of May.
  13. The no sweat stuff was recommended by the local seed store I bought it from. They said it should work, but I thought the same thing about it not coming up. I hope it does. It was a mix of rye, clover and oats. If it doesn't I will be positive and look at it as a learning experience.
  14. Where I planted the clover there are also about a dozen apple trees that the deer were hitting last year. I hope to establish a all year food source in this area. Its on my fathers land.
  15. Anyone else been working on food plots this spring? So far I have cleared and seeded 3 spots. I also cleared another spot to seed next week. I have been working on it for the last 3 weekends. Figure its easier to remove and clear brush now with equipment i have. First time trying so feedback would be great. I am using my new side by side with the snowplow to do the work, and a walk behind sead spreader. The first pic is red and ladino clover and the others i used antler king no sweat. I also spread triple 15 fertilizer on all of it.
  16. The bowhunters I know do not shoot during season but thats the guys I know. We all have different groups of people we hang out with.
  17. I personally only know 1 person that wasn't a bow hunter who now crossbow hunts. I do however believe if full inclusion was to happen, then a few others I know would participate. Thats ok by me cause not too many will hunt from October 1rst till mid December. If full inclusion was to happen by November 1rst most would have harvested a deer or gave up cause "there isn't any deer." Hell, after the first week of gun season it becomes like bow season, hardly no one hunting around my area.
  18. I shot a 6 point 3 years ago with cauliflower ear, and sours all over its nose. Started skinning it out and in the center of its back in the meat on the backbone there was a white and yellow spot. Looked like a hard boiled egg cut in half. I met with dec officer and she issued a new tag. Then told me to take the deer and throw it on land I hunt somewhere. Her response to me about her taking it for testing was she did not want that nasty thing. I think the deer had some type of wart disease but will never really know.
  19. I also felt it would be alot easier until I tried it. Thats the reason I ask. After I tried it myself I will say it was not.
  20. Not to hijack the thread but how many against full inclusion because it is so much easier have tried to hunt with a cossbow? I am for full inclusion btw.
  21. Correct, that is one part of it. After that its playing the game which we all enjoy at different levels and skill sets with whichever weapon we choose.
  22. I bowhunt, used a crossbow last season for the last 2 weeks, gun hunt and muzzleload. Last year ,being the first with the crossbow I found it the most challenging because of the weight, and size. I keep reading others say that it takes alot of dedication and hard work to shoot a bow. I started with an onieda recurve compound, then went to a bear legion compound. I can not speak for long bows and recurves, but it really doesn't take more than a weekend to learn and shoot a compound effectively with all that technology has to offer.
  23. Congratulations and thank you for your service
  24. I wait to take a doe. This was the first year in about 10 years that I shot a doe. Took 2 from different pieces of property I got permission to hunt. I leave the doe to lure the bucks.
