  1. Low and none again.. good thing landowners tag comes through...
  2. 40 hp even a hydro will be 30 plus on the hitch will pull a 2 bottom easily.
  3. Yep steering brakes work wonders..
  4. Glad I got rid of my ash 6 years ago..everyone local thought i was crazy..now whole patches around the area dead from borer..
  5. When do you see horns stop " growing" I usually.find by 2nd week of August they are done and hardening. Though I have people they'll me they grow through sept.. crazy
  6. Be interested to find out what it is.. ornamental trees can come from anywhere and be about anything..
  7. Lichen doesn't really affect tree if it bothers you can remove with mix of bleach and water. There due to shade and moisture..
  8. I've driven a 2012 kubota 45hp hst and my geared 2007 35hp kioti out performed it handily. Using a farmi logging winch and skidding and.lifting 38in diameter larch logs the kubota couldn't lift . If you bough that for 10 k you got a heck of a steal. Used still command more than that today if you can find them. 40 hp and up aren't that common.
  9. And your drive a 40 hp 30 k machine when I can do same with 4k 40 hp 1970 ford.. yes new ,modern contemporary are nice that wasnt the question as I said new I would push a kioti for gmp, weight and most bang for the buck. Even on a used one few years old..
  10. As I said cub cadet.made a hst lawn mower tractor .. they are fine for large estate maintenance. Sub compact tractors can work but your pushing limits to what they can do. And are designed for ( homeowner estate lawnmower) . A 500 lb or 600 lb lift on a bucket is nothing... 1 ton or close to 1 ton is a tractor, a cord of wood is a ton, 1/3 yard buckets.. you can play all day and ease of use but vs a subcompact I need to make 1 trip. They need to make 5 to accomplish the same. I've lifted single logs a 50hp kubota couldn't with a 35 hp tractor. Why buy an undersized easy to use machine when you can buy one that is simply a larger older geared tractor is designed to do tasks with ease and quickly.. you can dig a pond with a jd350 dozer and take week doing it or do it with a d3 and be done in 2 days.. machine matched to tasks. Ease of use is not important if you take 3x as long to accomplish something.. I can use my kubota b7200 and one bottom plow and several tanks of fuel to plow but the Oliver does acres in hours and using almost half a tank.. How many times do you see a undersized tractor trying to turn a 5 or 6 ft bushhog when they are designed for 44 or 4ft models.. it will turn it but way underpowered.. add mowing gup and down hills. And many will not be able to at all. Most bang for the buck to do food plot work and bushhogging is an older geared tractor with a loader for occasional use.
  11. And how often do most.people need a loader.. I agreed for.loader work if you go back. And.read so did others I remember loader, landscaping bunch of.l.words . Mowing and food plot work is not running back and forth moving stone and mulch. Its more work suited but one from.70s or 80s is not.gonna be reliable hst. And can get more hp at a much more reasonable price than a tractor you use loader on 3 or 4x a year to get into a contemporary tractor...
  12. Yes , again back to original post asking about older tractor..geared is way to go. And you dont have a choice now as 90% of subcompact tractors are hst.. targeting homeowners looking for a tractor... not a tractor but glorified lawn mowers...
  13. Nice simple summary... Re: Looking for my first tractor! Can anyone recommend a nice little CUT?
  14. Another good site with much more.detailed information on problems.. https://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/index.php
  15. And where is that hydro pump located ...take half the tractor apart to get to it...
  16. Gun season?? nut fruit wise.... in favorite order chestnut , Beech if there any, shagbark hickory, followed by white oak, red oak, green briar, pokeberry, smooth bark, pignut hickory, ash seeds, maple.seed.
  17. Beech is tough you may want to purchase crossbow herbicide for next spring and spray plot before doing more work on it. But by all means lime and get it planted for fall.. but your beech will resprout , crossbow will kill it permanently,, working the ground will be hard on any equipment until roots break down, if they try and strip them off with dozer you lose a lot of organic matter and topsoil..
  18. https://www.thespruce.com/twelve-species-magnolia-trees-and-shrubs-3269666 Here are a few as I said ornamental trees I'm am.not to familiar with but it's my best guess
  19. Well seeing your hand in photo for.leeave size you have what I believe is a magnolia tree, possibly a cucumber magnolia fruit should turn red .. I am definitely not.more than 80 percent sure on this one, ornamental trees in yards are not something I usually run into in my woods.. there are many varieties of magnolia trees and this would be my best guess..
  20. Stringy stuff at ends of branches? looks like you either have witch hazel or osage orange a photo of stringy stuff would help.witch hazel osage orange ( will leave large green fruit )
  21. Hard to tell for sure from photos looks like a kind of dogwood. Possibly a flowering type. Would be my Best guess off of leaves only cant see trunk well enough for better I'd, if you had flowers early spring it would most likely be a dogwood.
  22. You will be fighting regrowth of woody stems from roots.. that will be your biggest issue I believe.
  23. If you plant buckwheat and a red clover (can even plant red clover this fall with grain) and add more clover in early spring via frost seeding . Clover is about only planting that can stand up to heavy pressure. I'd still plow down clover in mid summer and add more lime and plant for a kill plot of turnip. And again reseed clover to build up soil
  24. Ph will be low, cereal grain is good start, buckwheat in spring is good soil builder and is fast growing can plow down before next fall free green manure ..add your lime and come fall can do a more attractive fall season plot. Clover / turnip. For example.. look around your area see what farmers have and offer something different
