  1. Fortunately I live where I hunt so it won't effect me getting there , but it will effect trail maintenance, food plot creation, atv riding...
  2. Last time i planted fusion was in May after turkey hunting in am. The plot is now 5 years old but I killed the chicory out of it after 3 years when weeds were getting bad And it's pure clover now
  3. Not familiar with 1 c... sounds like a long way from region 9....lol
  4. I'd meet at Sprague's anytime. Lots of deer see how doe tags are this next year.. preference points were needed this year..crazy..state really have no idea how many deer there are.
  5. Nice piebald at bottom of hill made it thru season
  6. I had a friend who lost his right eye in an accident and learned to shoot lefthanded, this was short lived as he need a pacemaker and had to again shoot right handed. To compensate he had a custom aluminum plate made to move the scope over to his left eye , attached to scope mount holes in reciever . Then set up exactly to eye distance with to attach mounts so he had good weld on right cheek and shot left eye.. this was only way he could continue to hunt not sure what it cost him to have scope mounting offset plate made at machine shop but would be a viable option, again my opinion and experiance is to learn to shoot left handed , lever action and single shot , auto or pump guns are all realistic to use shooting left with out having to buy various lefthanded custom bolt guns
  7. Imo Learning to shoot left handed is best solution ,a bb gun or .22 to get use to it would be way to go. Even a patch for her right eye. May help. Crossing your head over the comb of any stock is not proper form nor would it help her shoot anything but her own gun, shotgun would be worse not allowing her to bird hunt or turkey hunt. The extra practice it takes would be worth it .

    Deer

    Yep most of the day
  9. Grandparents use to have prune plums.. tried growing some , something in soil killed them.. black knot.. sad I really liked them
  10. A couple will be added to my eating orchard , the rest will be a wild orchard for game.
  11. Nope most boring job ever can't take differnt route , go thru all the bad areas of cities.. Absolutely worse is dealing with kids riding atvs along tracks.. steel strapping hanging off cars will cut them in half.. they think its fun to get close or race.. dumb
  12. Putting a hurt on deer in ashtabula Ohio, hit 2 more with locomotive last evening there is a 5 mile stretch with 9 dead deer in last 2 weeks.. all train strikes.. the eagles ,hawks and buzzards are liking it though..
  13. I grafted a few antique varieties from my grandparents orchards this trees are 100 plus years old and are declining rapidly.. those are only trees I've " lost" . Grafts are doing well and are almost 5ft tall now and starting to branch. I'll be the only one I know with Rhode island greenings, and wealthy apples around as both haven't been grown commercially for decades.
  14. Looks like a nice week of warmer temps ahead just in time to welcome spring. Looking forward to open water , shed hunting and some tree planting as well as equipment prep for food plot season....
  15. I always prune the lower 5 ft of limbs off these are all semi dwarf. And I run 4 or 5 ft 2xr welded fence to protect trunks. I want to be able to shoot under these trees as well as mow. I use weed mats or remove all grasses in fall from trunks. This will be 4th orchard I've started on my place. The oldest us 25 years old .. the only issue I've had is bears pulling trees over when two to 3 inches in diameter.. I was able to pull them back up and restake. I also leave the fencing on til over 5 inches as it protects from rubbing.
  16. My nephew is left eye dominant and right handed. Had to get him to close right eye and shoot lefty.. he now is only left handed shooter in his Gen in my family and get all my and my uncle hand me down bows and guns. Perhaps she should really.learn to shoot left handed ? Cover her right eye. And start with bb gun at cans / bottles once she's comfortable with that trying to cross over won't be an issue. We learned my nephew was left eye dominate watching him shoot cans and missing half of them.. when he switched he went to 100% hits..
  17. You want fresh cut logs to minimize chance of other spots being present.. oysters will colonized dead ash I have about 2 acres of ash tops that are loaded with fall oysters
  18. Look at blight free beech as well for your lionsmane
  19. Should really look at poplar, aspen and cottonwood for your oysters.

    Calls

Most here haven't heard a pot or wing bone, also like using elk bugle for a locator as they haven't heard that either. People are afraid of movement and mouth calls are 90% in use here as evident of all the idiots driving the roads with the window down practicing....smh

    Calls

Set up is more important so when bird shows itself I'd already in range, main reason I hunt woods and not fields. Head pops up on ridge and bang!
  22. So 6 pear and 12 apples ready to go once the snow melts away this week

    Calls

Slate/pot type calls are my favorite ,seem to produce the most realistic calls and are not commonly used. Not to mention you can carry several diffenrt strikers ans have multiple calls. Seems everyone is trying mouth calls or box and birds have wised up to them.
  24. Maine is full of poplar and spruce/ fir.. great grouse habitat.. not to mention it's clear cut in many areas.. unlike ny where prime turkey and grouse nesting has disappeared because of growth or conversion to food plots..
  25. Mostly has to do with deer density in areas I drive ,it's nothing to see 20 to 40 deer in a field within a mile of my house ..this is after we take 20 off this place every year.. not including neighbors deer.. would of had 14 buck per square mile this year here if we did that
