I've built permanent blinds from large logs and rocks in known roost areas, works very well have taken several this way but reccomend you rake a path into it at least 50 to 75 yard long as to sneak in under sleeping bird... works very well if you have roosted birds night before

This it a corkscrew in the leader.. not a lateral becoming a leader .very Unusual

Still surprised that a partial snap occurred, and had chance to regrow, any pine or spruce I see partial cut usually dies..

Had to be very fresh growth not to break and it should show broken leaders on other trees the same age stand this is only one I see with leader damage

Was posting new property today and did a little exploring as well found this highly unusual Norway spruce, this was Done a long time ago as tree is 10 in at the corkscrew.. it may fall and be carved into something unique if I can get woolly to work on it..

Was recently contacted by a young woman ( friend request on fb) and was about to delete request until I looked a common friend. Turns out this 20 year old was a 13 year old I took out in a youth hunt 7 years ago through a nwtf outreach program we had back them for jake day... she is now in college and decided that she wants to get back into hunting , deer and turkey now. She had lost her course certificate to the wash (unreadable)but has her old licence from 2014-15 when I took her out. We chatted a bit and I believe she should be able to get her licence based off her old nys licence. When that is accomplished she asked if I can take her and her friend out to show them the ropes again.. must of made an impression those long years ago.. anyway I'm thrilled she has decided to reenter the hunting world.. a success I guess even if delayed several years! Anyone else have a successful story of getting a random stranger involved in hunting?

So one of my winter projects I only got half done due to injury and snow.. a hard maple stand that hasn't grown in 30years ,years, rings are 1/32 on an inch or smaller for last 30 year.. the goal was to put some food on ground and open up canopy so growth would occur. I was able to use some of these for bolts for cultivating shiiatke mushrooms. Have more to do just ran out of time and lost a day when friend I was cutting with got hurt pretty bad when tree bounced and hit him in shoulder , tearing tendons and ligaments in shoulder and partial tears in knee as it bowled him over.... so more to do next year ( about 2 acres left to do)
