  1. I think you right about politicians but I think what I said has to do with it also traditionally crossbows have been associated with poaching game .
  2. Yea but how many guys you see hunting small game with a crossbow at 4 am or coming out of woods after dark when u can use a gun more effectively for small game already you would look suspect to a game officer they are not born yesterday . Its about deterrence . You never going to stop everything you know what I mean.
  3. Think about it you look suspicious walking in or out of the woods with a crossbow loaded with a Broadhead if it's not in season . So that is a deterrent from people using them for poaching But if you make them legal for all of archery it makes it easier for them to use it before light with the excuse of well I was just walking in to get to my stand . When they could be going in before light or after just to jack light deer . And with know loud sound and better range of a crossbow and being able to have it cocked it makes it easier for them to get away with it . This know doubt already probably happens during archery with bows .but With crossbows if let in for all of archery it will only make it easier for pouches to get away with it . And easier to shoot and kill more deer when they do try it . As it's much easier then using a bow to do the same thing. It's going to happen the question is how much and what the effect will be less tags maybe don't know. But it will change things if that happens just saying .
  4. Why would xbow increase pouching well let's see maybe because it's easier to shoot then a bow little better range makes know load noise like a gun can be held cocked like a gun with a flash light attached at night or before legal hunting hours I can see lots of that happening. You already get that now I always here guns going off before and after sunrise and sunset . With a xbow you just tempting people to do even more of that I would think at least that is what I here The people against crossbows saying . I guess they could just give less tags to account for that . Probably not going to help the size of bucks shot in gun season either .
  5. Well if that's the case we probably will never see full inclusion politicians like to get MONEY from both sides lobbyist
  6. All my guns I got in the 90s and 80s I never did shoot them much they all still like new except for my small game guns 22lr and shot gun And now that takes a rest to my Pcp airgun . The reason I don't shoot the large hunting cal guns much is 1 range is 45 min drive 2 ammo gets expensive and some times hard to find 3 I want my big game hunting guns to last for ever and stay like new 4 I don't need to shoot them much I don't hunt in a place that you can see farther then 100 yards or less mostly . And any time I do shoot them once sited in shots are always on the money at that distance.
  7. Hmm 175 acres if you went a expert opinion let me hunt there for a season and I will tell you what I think . Lol Just joking maybe your neighbors have better food on there land so they stay off yours or maybe there is a lot of pouching going on around you .
  8. Maybe they are worried about the extra pouching that will happen with full inclusion of crossbows .
  9. Is there a state that has spear airgun crossbow basically anything you want tag . Just out of curiosity what state let's you hunt with the most types of weapons ?
  10. Gun hunting is the most popular way to hunt and most effective. What ever they do is going to take that in account. If you tell most hunters if they want crossbows in all archery most will say they don't care or are for it . Now if you tell them they may get less tags or less deer during gun season . What do you think most hunters would say ? And That is why we don't all ready have full inclusion in archery season . Btw I have hunted with Both crossbow and bow . I like bow better because its, lighter I don't take long shots with them . That's what guns are for . People want to take things like crossbows slap a scope on it and use it like gun it's not . I rather use a gun in fact I would rather them shorten the other seasons so I could use a gun. Which is really what most guys who want crossbow in archery probably really want a longer gun season . Let's be honest or people would use them in place of guns in guns season .
  11. Just wondering how old are you ? The dec is not going to give crossbow the same season as archery if they know it's going to effect the deer take of gun season. It's that simple at least I would be willing to bet that is what they are thinking or you would have had full inclusion all ready . And the thing about less wounded deer and bad shots from crossbows I don't think so more then likely guys will take longer shots because they have a scope on it and you will still get the same amount of wounded deer anyway. Anyway you can use your crossbow in regular season to so you have plenty of time to use it . If it's so great why not just use it in regular season then ? I personally like spot stalk tracking gun hunting the best so I don't really care one way or the other .
  12. I say let people hunt with what ever they like as long as the amount of deer taken in the archery season does not change much if it does then it's a problem then you have to either change or shorten the season because as it is by gun season it's already slim pickings .
  13. Good point but I think they could get a idea by using pre crossbow year data . If there were x amount of deer taken pre crossbow in bow season and now there are 2x more . It's a safe bet to assume crossbow have effected the deer take numbers . If nothing else has changed . But a better way is to have separate tags as you have said . You would think.
  14. As long as it does not effect negatively on the deer population I could care less what people use . I'm assuming the reason archery season is longer is because the success rate is much lower then gun season or muzzle season . So if dec stats show full inclusion is not going to make much difference who cares .
  15. It all depends if DEC sees a big jump in deer take I guess . If they don't see a difference then why not .
  16. I'm guessing you mean Rome New York
  17. I think it will not make much difference in deer take and if it does they can always change it back. I find crossbows to be heavy and awkward to carry around the woods with me I personally rather carry a bow.
  18. I can't say I blame you I let one guy fish off my property one time next thing you know. I had trash beer cans all of the place . He denied it but it started to happen soon after I gave this guy permission more then likely if it was not him it was one of his friends who new nobody lived there all the time .so they took advantage. If I ever give permission to anyone again not likely , but if I did I would tell them up front you responsible for any trash that I find here . If I find anything wrong anything you out of here . No excuses no second chance .
  19. I think if it's a,land that the landowner lives on he is not going to want strangers near his home hunting even for $40 a acre . So that rules out a lot of land out there I think I know near me its almost impossible to get a lease and the ones There are they want $$$$$ much more then $20 acre .
  20. I know it's free market but for me 20 /Acre is to high to pay for a lease in the blind unless I new for sure there were some really big racks on that property. Especially since usually hunting leases are always far away from me .
  21. Be it bow, crossbow or gun Bad shots from deflection or panic or wind or acts of God will happen to even the best of hunters . Its hunting nothing is 100% guaranteed.. you just have to try to use your best judgment and don't try taking shots that you know you can't make. Or don't practice at .
  22. I'm out of state for a week o so but when I get back it will be either my trusty 25 yeae old rem 1187 or rem 700 in 30-06 depending on location I will be hunting that day . Usually that means shotgun.
  23. Maybe they could do a lottery in some sections of state land like other states do . Seems like they could do more for the hunters that are willing to pay more but not on the level of going and buying there own land just for hunting . I think they have done a lottery thing In one local park in western ny if I'm not mistaken . Don't remember the name or details about it though . But I remember reading people saying they pulled out some big bucks out of there when they did that .
