  1. I take it you have not read one single article on AR's then. Again, its not about growing the herd, its about balanced healthy herd with a solid age structure, there is a difference. John, it's the same old story and we just keep going round and round. AR'S and food plots are for one reason only and lets just admit it right up front. AR's are for the bigger bucks with bigger antlers not a healthier deer herd. As mentioned in the past 20 years the herd has increased in leaps and bounds with out AR's. Food plots are to shoot deer period, attract them to the food, fatted them up hopefully with bigger antlers and shoot them. Not for a healthier deer herd as we have being arguing. It's just the next big think to satisfy hunters ego which we don't all agree on.Dave
  2. Nice when dreams come true, now that's hunting in style. Dave
  3. You must do a heck of a lot of walking / stalking to get your deer ! That I do Eddie... I can do as much as 10 miles in a day sometimes if I'm looking hard for a buck... at the end of the day I am usually pretty whipped!! But I love it... Antler, lets be realistic how many hunters have access to that much land where we could walk 10 miles in a day. Many of us have small parcels of land probably 100 acres or less. Not conducive to that much stalking unless we want to chase the deer to someone else's property. That's why so many guys hunt from tree stands. Just my opinion.Dave Who said anything about anyone else walking 10 miles a day? I was responding to Eddie concerning what "I" do... Why is it that everytime I say something about the way I think of hunting and how I hunt.. you take it as I am saying that everyone has to be doing the same thing... I don't care how everyone else hunts... not even a little bit... if you love treestands.. God Bless ya.. I don't... that doesn't mean I am against guys hunting out of treestands... if what ever anyone does makes their hunting experience exciting for them... that is terrific.. I like to walk.. even on 100 acre parcels of land... I just walk a lot slower and put on less mileage.. I walk when I bow hunt, I walk when I gun hunt... thats just what I like to do... you can like whatever you want. But if you're interested... all hunters have the same access that I have to the Adirondacks if you'd like to try going for a walk sometime... Antler, I don't care if you walk your A-- off that is up to you. You may live close to the Adirondacks and have access to lots of land to roam around. But most of us are not so fortunate, if we were may be we would walk our a--- off too. Just pointing out you have the opportunity that most hunters don't. I am in no way saying that we should hunt the way you do. I don't think the American Indians could keep up with you Tonto.
  4. I'm for it, and I do not believe its "propaganda". Lack hunting skills? Nice... I've seen huge improvements in the buck size and action in my area, 3H. I'm far from a horn hunter, but its great seeing some larger racks running around, where a few years ago that really was not the case. I have not taken a buck in many years, mostly by choice. Last year after taking a doe we were at the local butcher, ED Grund in Cochecton. Ed said not only are the antlered deer being harvested have larger racks, but he deer themselves have been quite larger. To the point where the boxes he'd normally use to pack up the customers meat are now a few sizes larger. John, I agree and hunt not far from you in Fremont center. Our area has a few clubs and we don't shoot does, and small bucks. We have been doing this for many years now and it hasn't helped. May be the antler restriction law will make a difference, I hope anyway. But if the locals shoot the deer when we aren't there will this really help? That can be the only reason there's no mature bucks in our area they are shot by the local who don't follow the rules.Dave why would you NOT shoot does?? that doesnt make any sense to me... Most of the guys don't shoot does during gun season or small bucks. The result last year out of 12 guys we only shot one 6 pt, and during bow one doe. We hunt about 350 acres and that's not much of a deer take. And my brother shot the buck on my 20 acres. Last year I say more does than in previous years so if I get a DMP I will take one. The mentality is for some reason they don't shoot does but occasionally I do.Dave
  5. That doe sure sure looks thin and you can see her hip bone. She maybe injured and can't feed, hope she makes it and the coyotes don't get her. Dave
  6. Guy's picked up The Mo Jack EZ from Tractor Supply and this thing works great. Mower lifter cleaned in and out 20 minutes. And I didn't break my back in the process. Folds up , who could ask for more. Dave
  7. G man you have a point when you watch all all the deer hunting shows those guys don't hunt for free. And every inch of their property is probably posted and patrolled. If you went up to the door and asked to hunt the answer would be NO.Dave
  8. I'm not sure about the local problem, though there were a few cases where people found deer with their heads cut off and carcases left behind right around the block from where I am. None the less, you will always have a few bad apples local or not. John, a few years back we had the exact same issue, deer found on our property with head cut off. Also a doe found dead in our meadow to lazy to go and get it, but had no problem shooting though.Dave
  9. I think it's a combination of many of your comments. Not many large tracks of land anymore, high taxes and anti hunters who land. If you have a small piece of land of 20 or so acres how many guys can hunt it anyway? So most people just hunt their own land and like their privacy. The past is just that the past and the days of wandering all day are long gone. Everything is posted to keep you out. Dave

  12. Does it come with a bath tub and running water . So how many stands and blinds do you have now? Dave
  13. Guys shot a 3 legged deer many years age. Seem to have lost leg in a trap, but healed over. It was a fat doe. Dave
  14. Count me in guys, let me know when, where, what time. Dave
  15. Again Steve you missed the point and respond with a lecture. My point was that this generation is in worse shape than our's and the one before us. This is not my opinion but medical reports on the state of our children. Most hunters are in their 50's, 60's and 70's. You don't have to be Jack LaLane to go hunting if you have some level of fitness. My comment was about the younger generation.Dave Now whose starting the argument here? I know exactly what you were trying to say and don't disagree that many kids are overweight. Although, any way you try to slice it, in general the higher probability of a hunter needing to be carried out feet first out of the woods, would be with the old timers and not the youngsters even though they might be overweight. Why must you see everything as an argument and not a discussion with different points of view. Seems like you like to argue, if you didn't you would have nothing to say.Dave

  17. Peta gets the middle finger from hunter even without such a law! With all the BS Peta puts out, hunting is still alive and well in NY and every other state in the union. In all truth, they have done JACK to stop hunting in this country. States like the revenue they earn from hunting and won't put an end to it just because some looney tune animal saviors want hunting to be banned. Will NEVER happen, but again some people think the sky is always falling. Steve, don't say will never happen. A privilege is something that can be taken away, they allow us to hunt. But a right means we can hunt regardless of what they want . I know there are restrictions, fees etc. but with a right they will never be able to take it away from us.Dave
  18. Well, it WAS considered, but the DEC figured the cost of the nursing care, along with the special medical supplies needed like depends undergarments, hearing aids, wheelchairs, etc. and having paramedics on stand by during this entire special "old fart" season would be too much for their already strapped budget. At least with the young hunters the likelyhood of them needing to be carried out on a stretcher is considerably less. Don't totally agree, have you looked at the shape the younger kids are in lately? I bet our senior hunters are in better shape, remember this isn't our first rodeo. The kids today are mostly obese and at best overweight. Maybe hunting is too strenious for them to handle. That's why they sit in the house and play video games. Just my humble opinion.Dave
  19. Doe, cut it every two weeks, sometimes it doesn't look like I cut it at all. I cut it 3 times already this year, I have to mow about 3 acres. Love doing it great to clear my head.Dave
  20. I check the weather forecast every day and it has been real bad the past few days. Any flooding of streams or low areas? Heading up this weekend to cut the grass. Dave
  21. So why do you bother to respond at all? Just to fuel the fire! My mother use to say if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all. Good advice.Dave
  22. Doc, I hate to put down any program that would increase the youth hunting numbers. But I agree with you I don't feel it will do much to replace the dwindling numbers of hunters. The kids today are more interested in killing thing on video games than getting out in the fresh air and actually seeing nature. I think the thought of killing something is so foreign to them they will never join the ranks of hunters. This is a big problem they think that food just appears from places like Mc Donalds and Burger King, and no animals were injured in making these happy meals.Dave
  23. Buck, what county is the park in?Dave
