Gun Ownership Up & Violent Crime Down per FBI
Dave replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
I like to respond to these topics but little is accomplished if neither side listens. This is exactly that is happening here. My last statement on this topic, criminals and enforcement of the laws we already have must be upheld and when we don't enforce the law, anti gun movement wants more laws. Just like enforcing the illegals entering the country we don't enforce the law. This frustrates everyone and nothing gets done, just more pro and con posturing from both sides. Dave -
Was up state last week and saw a doe and fawn in a field across from my house. Then another doe and a fawn showed up and browsed together. Hope to see more next weekend. Dave

The problem is the criminals whether you want to face the facts or not, quit chasing your tail and trying to blame someone else like the law abiding gun owners. Seem like you really don't want the answer just cause unnecessary banter.Dave -

Comparing cars to guns is an extremely weak comparison. Cars were designed to transport people, guns were designed to stop or kill something. Big difference. I could strangle someone with the same rope that I hang my laundry on, but the ropes primary use is for something other than stopping or killing. One can't argue that a gun was designed for anything other than putting a projectile thru something at a considerable velocity. Surely one of the most effective killing machines ever designed, so it will take a LOT of convincing to those who don't own them (and even to many who do like myself) that they are just innocent objects that need no regulation. How come more people every year are killed by automobiles than guns. What are we doing about that? Dave -
You can't teach ethics period. You can present ethical issues and debate them that's about it. What one does is a personal decision and depends on your social and economic enviornment. I have worked for a major corporation and we have gone through this exercise and either the employees are ethical or they are not. We have had many employees terminated for ethical issues even though they have taken mandatory ethics in business classes. So they know the consequences and have paid the price. Dave

The problem in my opinion is that many of you just can't accept that many of us "legal" and law-abiding gun purchasers may not be such upstanding citizens that we think we are since criminals end up getting the guns from us Your assuming a lot with that statement, that law abiding citizens supply criminals with guns. Do you think that's how most criminals get guns? How about from other criminals. How about guns smuggled from other countries, south of the border. Haven't read any headlines "Law abiding citizen sells guns to criminals" Now that you have made the statement back it up with more than guessing where criminals get guns. Just the facts please. Very lame explanation on your part blaming the problem on law abiding citizens. Lets lay the blame where it belongs with the criminals, period!!! Dave -

Some of these reply's are cruel and unusual punishment to say the least. No matter what laws are passed the criminals will bypass them that's why they are called criminals. So any laws passed will only affect law biding citizens. Dave -
Doc, I think it's wrong for someone to be talked down to because you don't conform to their ethics. And by no means have this legislature , or any other legislate your ethics for you. You can't teach ethics either you have it or you don't. Dave
-
You don't have to live up to others expectations, it's legal, you are doing the right thing. For some people even doing things legal isn't enough. Food plots help deer in the winter after the hunting season ends I think that is ethical, some say let them fend for themselves. Wonder how many hunters who have a different opinion have benefited from someones food plot I am sure they don't complain about that. Dave
-
Antler, I think the debate is if legal or not and we know there is no law against food plots to attract deer. Just like any other topic that we respond to it's not illegal so therefore it's OK. I don't have any food plots on my property and don't intend to have any.Dave I think you misread my post.. Illegal or not.. was the start of the next sentence.. meaning whether the question posed is illegal or not there is still the question of whether its ethical... if your conscience doesn't bother you and its legal.. have at it... You can't have it both ways. If it's legal to have food plots then why is it unethical? If something is legal according to the DEC then they put us in an unethical position according to you. Why is something legal and at the same time unethical according to some hunters?Dave

Thanks Wooly looks just like what I need. I have a Craftsmann with a 54" deck. How much do they cost. Dave I got mine as a gift Dave. I think it was ordered from Harbor Freight if I'm not mistaken for about $200. Everyone was getting scared by the many redneck ways I'd find to get my tractor lifted enough to work underneath, lol. ??? Well worth it IMO. Even I feel safer now. Wolly I know just what you are talking about. When my sons say my method of cleaning the mower deck they said there has to be a better way. They were asking what I wanted for Fathers Day, I sent them the link to Mo Jack, Thanks muchDave

I have a 42" mower deck too and it's no problem to clean. It has only two blades and the grass doesn't build up like the 3 blade mower. The configeration under the 3 blade mower is different and catches the grass . Much of the build up in where the middle blade is.Dave
-
Guys have any solutions to cleaning under the riding mower deck? I have a 3 blade 54" deck and it's a pain in the butt to clean under the deck. What I do is lay out some cinder blocks with pieces of 2 x 8 and ride up the 2 x 8's then scoot under with a scraper to get the grass out. It works but it's time consuming a pain to clean, I clean it after every mowing. Any solutions would be appreciated. :'( Dave

Bought a small chest freezer on creigs list about 3 yrs ago. Had it up state and then brought it home it's in my garage and works fine. The old ones that last 25 years use much more electricity than the newer ones. Paid $100 and have no problems, chest are more energy efficient than the upright ones. But harder to fine things. Dave

If we do away with NICS checks as some here advocate, or any other existing gun laws, what would be the difference between a legally bought gun and one illegally bought? ??? How would it be any different if one buys a gun at a gun shop with no questions asked or on a street corner? When you say 'legal", you are implying there are laws associated with it. If there were NO gun laws, there could be NO distinction to what is legal and what isn't, and in that case there would be NO difference buying one from a gun dealer or some slime bucket on a street corner. Just an FYI for you fellas who hate ALL gun laws, yet use the same worn out tune that "criminals don't buy guns legally". Well do they? As laws currently stand, in most cases they probably don't buy them legally. But it surely IS a good thing that the distinction could be made to what is legal and what isn't. If you guys had it your way, and started scrapping all gun laws, there could be NO distinction made at all. Glad that you agree that laws pertaining to guns are a good thing after all! LOL Steve I have no problems with laws that keep guns out of the hands of criminals and wackos. It's when they try to take the guns from law biding citizens. Or making them jump through hoops to get access to guns. If they would enforce the laws in the first place we wouldn't have half the problems we have now. Case in point Plaxico Burress N.Y Giant football player has an illegal gun, shoots himself in a crowded night club putting the public in harms way. They take the gun over the state line to N.J. Gets just 20 months, is that justice? This guy is about 6'6" about 250 #, what does he need a gun for? Now the media and the N.Y fans welcome him with open arms, he should still be in jail. Do you think that if anyone on this site was involved in anything like this that his job would be waiting for him? If we put them away for along time this would deter them from carrying guns, but they just get a slap on the wrist.Dave Dave Dave -

I am sure the mean streets of Rochester do not compare to those in Brooklyn and the Bronx. But every town and city had it's criminal element that has access to illegal guns. It is unrealestic to think more regulations mean anything to these criminals and gang members. Simply put they don't buy guns legally and will never be able to. So who are these regulations aimed at? The law biding citizens of this country who foot the bill for everything this government imposes in them. Dave
