Whats your fav food while in the woods?
Dave replied to WhiteTailBuckDeer's topic in General Chit Chat
Usually the first few days of the season I stay on stand all day. So I bring thermos of chicken bullion, apples, two sandwiches, cheese sticks, pepperoni and fig newton bars and a bottle of water. Dave -
Thank you, hope I can contribute.

Valid points have been make these Dr.'s will give you a note for just about anything. How many people are collecting disability benefits and have other jobs. There are always people out there to scam the system and it seems that getting a letter from a Dr. to say you have a disability and unable to pull a bow would be pretty easy. Dave

Letemfly, i have read an article about feeding deer corn and they agree if they are not eating corn as part of their diet it could kill them. But if it is no problem with the digestion of the corn. If they are not in an area of corn fields then the best thing to feed them is called sweet corn. It's a mixture of corn, oats, barley, grain and molassas. They have no problem digesting the sweet corn. You can get it at any feed store about $7-$8 bicks a 50# bag. Remember the DEC say's they are concerned with CWD and feeding deer could spread it, but the deer that contacted it were penned up not from wild deer. Dave

Guys we have a Dicks down here in Roosevelt Field and the prices are not cheap. I have had gift cards that i refused to spend unless there is something I want on sale. I would go in and want to use the card and walk out because the prices were too high. Dave

Some people must realize that certain disabilities make it impossible to hunt. Draw a bow, shoot a gun or pistol. Plus there are other factors to consider getting in and out of the woods. Climbing mountains and getting in and out of stands. Even people without disabilities are not cut out for hunting even it there was a law to use a crossbow. Next we will have a law to make the woods wheelchair accessible. We can't legislate everything to accommodate everybody. I want to make it clear I have nothing against the disable. Dave

great pictures

If the people who want medical clearance to say they are disable they should be checked out by the LIRR doctors. Over 90% of their employees get a disability pension. How is that possible??????? Dave

I think any firearms during bow season will open a big can of worms. Dave

Chevy, I totally agree, they will abuse the law if passed. Funny how healthy those people look walking from their handicapped parking spots. Not that all are fakes but family members use their cars that shouldn't. Dave

SplitG2, When I built my house every weekend I needed a vacume to suck them all up. I called Cooperative extension and the recommended a spray solution to spray on the outside of the house. I tried to buy it on line and they would not ship it to N.Y. So I had it sent to my friends house in Pa. They recommend you spray your house in the last weeks in AUGUST, sometimes I did it in early Sept. It worked great not a fly all hunting season and none in the spring. They try to winter in houses and barns so make sure all cracks and overhangs are sealed and have no way of getting into the house. All you need is a 2 gallon hand pump sprayer, water and the powder to mix with the water and spray the house. All you need is 2 scoops, they are 1oz. The box I bought has lasted me 5 yrs and I still have some left. Cost as I remember was about $60-$70 bucks. If you look up cluster flies on line you can find the name of the chemical. I would give you the name but the box is up state in my garage sorry. Dave

The smell of a wood burning stove after being in the woods all day is part of the hunting experience. Then having a glass of wine or beer marks the end of a good day's hunt. I will try to get into the woods in late March to cut the blow downs close to the logging roads. Makes it easier to get the wood out of the woods and back to the house. Then split and stack the wood and let it season all spring, summer and fall. Dave

Guys I hunt 4w and the hunting wasn't too good this year. Saw a few bucks during bow season, none during gun. Got a doe with the bow and one club member shot a 6pt during gun on opening day. My club had about 14 guys hunting opening few days and they dwindled down as the season ended. I did see more does than last year but that was it. Dave

hope this comes thru

I agree since I have found this site things seem to be run extremely well. This site is set up much easier to post topics and responses. And much faster. Dave

It does have a damper but even when you close it down it still cranks.

Culvercreek, I have a cabin up state that already has a stove with a glass door. The stove I have usually goes our during the night, even when I load it with wood. A full load lasts only a few say about 3hrs. But my house is so well insulated the temp is still about 68 to 70 degrees when we get up. This stove can't be banked down so as long as there is wood in the stove it is cranking. It's a Vogelzang (mountaineer) bought it from Northern tool catalogue. Dave

Eddie, I probably trust the homeless guy before Obama. At least we know where the guy came from. Dave
