  1. A few times ł was quick enough to touch em, he didn't like that though. Would jump and swipe with his wings at you whenever you made contact. For the most part he sat on the porch with us and "Coo'd" while pecking at toes.
  2. ł have been harassed while hunting. Spring 2016 ł was opening camp, going through the chores list. Got around to firing up my 4 wheeler for the first time after Winter (Old and sputtering son of a gun it is) and suddenly ł am greeted with the charge of a new to my woods Ruffed Grouse who must've thought he had company near his drumming log. This Grouse who became known as "Quad" followed me around until his unfortunate disappearance the same Winter. Quad would stop by every now and again to say hello throughout that year but it wasn't until hunting season that he became a bit of a nuisance. I thought it was funny when he followed me up my ladder while replacing an electrical mast... he used this skill set to follow me in to my treestand as well. ł wouldn't trade the "Harrassing" from Quad during hunting season for the world but ł do wish ł didn't have to go to my buddies property to fill my tags. Here are a couple photos of Quad harassing me while hunting, he used to climb the ladder one rung at a time... all you would hear were his wings whirring and clink... clink... clink... as he flew from one rung to the next as opposed to just flying up. Quad walked around the shooting rail and would even jump up on my head or perch behind me on a close branch. How is this hunter harrassment some may be wondering... Well, Quad spooked dozens of deer that year because he wouldn't sit still and made it so ł couldn't hunt my own land lol. This guy could find me no matter what treestand ł decided on for the day, like he patrolled my Woodlot checking for an occupied tree. ł could've just taken him during season, from what ł hear they're tasty birds... But ł liked him too much regardless of his quirky personality.
  3. Not a lot of activity on this thread but ł'm sure once season rolls around there will be a lot of Orange in the woods within our region. ł hunt 9M, just curious who else from my area is active on this forum as it is a wealth of information and most everybody here seems like good people.
  4. ł have no knowledge about shrooms but ł enjoy photographing them. Anyone have an app for identifying them?
  5. New to the idea of hinge cutting, haven't cut anything just been reading about it. ł understand overcutting is your enemy and ł mean both depth of cut and quantity of trees selected for hinging. Any thoughts on hinge cutting some sumac, would it produce vegetation/fruit horizontally at deer level or do the runners/shoots take over once cut? Might give it a try beginning of next year but ł'm interested what those cuts did, any current photos Fletch?
  6. Fletch is correct, Anchor: Boater Safety Paw: Trapping Rumor has it the little heart tells ambulance drivers to take a break but ł don't believe it.
  7. Don't remember what year ł bought my lifetime licenses but it was before the blind leader started charging for DMP's. ł just tell them what WMU's ł want and the people of Wal-Mart are baffled when they can't figure out how to charge me $10. ł get asked for seperate I.D. often buying beer because my Driver License has all these little pictures the guy at 7-11 never seen before, he claims it's a fake. Wonderful NY.
  8. ł haven't received my tags yet. Usually have them by now.
  9. Got 9M and 9A Should've checked with friends to see if anyone wanted to do a swap. Might have gotten something tradeable with my 2nd tag because ł never use my 9A.
  10. Someone point me in the direction of a reputable shop in WNY that is not afraid of an older machine. ł have a 1996 Arctic Cat Bearcat 454 that is in need of some attention. Just had it in a local shop (For a month) to get her running after sitting for some time and ł was told they cleaned the carb and it's running strong so long as you use the pull cord, they didn't even look at the switch or trace the wires to see why it won't start by key/button. Seems like they didn't want to put any time in to the machine. Get it back to my place and it's bogging, like it isn't getting gas. It dies out on inclines and doesn't want to run. (Couldn't even make one lap around my trails.) Not sure if there is a float in the carb that isn't set right. ł would like to drop it off somewhere that can perform an overhaul on this machine. ł know it's old, ł know it's likely to have a variety of issues, ł don't expect it back in a week and ł know it won't be cheap. Any suggestions?
  11. It's saddening to hear you have terrible neighbors. ł don't expect that will happen to mine, my neighbor who owns twice as much land as me keeps a watchful eye on my piece until the day comes that ł move out of the city. Also have a few cellular cams strategically placed, only time ł ever had a trespasser it wound up being an insurance inspector who was walking around looking at my cabin.
  12. Pulled the trigger and ordered 300 of them today. Anyone that is considering placing an order, they're selling the "108 VP" Sign at a discounted rate of .90 cents per sign if you order by the 100. That was .9 cents a piece less than expected and covered the up charge for having my name put on them. ł ordered them in yellow for no extra cost, ł believe the only orange in my woods should be the orange ł wear while hunting.
  13. Not sure what the story is with this. It's near an old logging road, my Dad thought it may have been used as part of a pulley system to get downed trees to the road. It is not near the property lines.
  14. Okay, got my hands on a Voss catalog... $5.00 setup fee and .05 cents a sign for imprinting. Not bad at all, an extra $5.00 per hundred signs. ł will be ordering enough to cover the perimeter and have a few years worth of replacements. (Unless ł can get lucky and scrounge up some more neighboring land) Thank you everyone.
  15. Thanks, ł was looking at Voss on Amazon but couldn't get a response as far as imprinting. ł will give them a call and see what they charge for that. Appreciate the feed back. My roll of tyvek signs served me well... since September 2016 but must be replaced with something that will last.
  16. Anyone know of a good source for aluminum posted signs? More importantly somewhere ł can order them with my info pre-affixed by the manufacturer... ł have my rough perimeter measurements, any reccomendations on spacing? ł do plan on double posting all corners. All input is appreciated... Thanks!
  17. Thanks for the replies, my rifle sling and deer drag are both paracord. ł use it for alot of different things beyond that. I will look into the static rope, found a place that sells it by the foot so ł will have to get an accurate measurement of the length my climb will require and just add a few feet for the knots. Thank You everyone
  18. Has anyone ever used paracord for extended periods outdoors? ł have a steep hill side that would be a lot easier to ascend and descend with the assistance of a rope and figure paracord would do the trick. ł plan on leaving it up year round and for the most part only using it during hunting season to get to a sweet spot. The climb is approximately 140' up across a distance of approximately 270' ł think ł said that right, approximate incline of 67% Long story short if ł had a rope ł can get to this sweet spot a LOT easier. Anyone think paracord will hold up to being outside year round in WNY weather?
  19. In the stand, we have a dusting in my area. Haven't seen anything yet, good luck everyone
  20. Not entirely sure, it's been a few years. By the way, shot it in 9M (Mansfield N.Y.) with my Remington 870 12ga using Remington Copper Solids
  21. Biggest one ł've knocked down so far. Opening day 2012, got em not even 10 minutes into legal light sitting in my great uncle's treestand. My Uncle Jack isn't with me anymore, lost him in 2014 but ł hunt that stand for him at least once every year.
  22. Nice, I have a friend who hunts there. Hope you feel better Greg, back injuries are no picnic. ł'm hoping to get back out Saturday, it's may be my last day if ł can't get Sunday off too.
  23. Very quiet, one shot at 7:40 south of me and a second at 7:51... nothing since then
