  1. ł have been doing some reading about conifer stands. ł have pushed a 14 acre chunk of pines many times which is planted as a grid with equal spacing between each tree. Always see sign, and we've harvested a few deer on this parcel. Some of what ł'm reading says that this is a great approach for timber harvesters but not ideal for wildlife habitat. They go on to state you should instead plant pockets of 2-15 trees with odd spacing instead of a grid pattern. ł would like to eventually plant a 2 acre area with conifers to increase bedding and thermal protection and was going to plant it as a grid but now ł'm not sure. This task won't be checked off my to do list for a few years but ł'm wondering how others feel about this?

  3. Got me grinning right now, that's awesome! Nice to see successful youth hunts, this is our sports future.
  4. That would rival the sasquatch ł have on cam visiting the jerky ł hung from a sugar maple.
  5. A couple hundred pounds of sand over the axle and a bag of rock salt will get the job done in any situation you could face. ł have 300 lbs kitty litter as my understanding is sand will rot your trunk from the inside, not an issue in a truck bed.
  6. That would be awesome! Thank you
  7. Any of those aluminum flagpoles salvageable?
  8. Wish you luck WNYBuckHunter, ł plan on getting an acre of Dunstans in over the course of the next 2 years. Have a 1 acre ledge ł must first clear before getting some mast bearing trees in. Keep us posted on how this pans out. G-Man has given me some solid advice, one of many knowledgeable stewards of NY Forest that can be found on this forum.
  9. Agreed. -1° before the wind chill makes it tough to be outside if you're not getting paid or putting meat in the freezer. ł was out for about 10 minutes with the binos as it was getting close to fully eclipsed.
  10. Goosifier has the best weather for viewing, too cold here for me to enjoy it. Been peeking, will go out for 5 near total eclipse with the binos as ł'm not setting the telescope up in this.
  11. Guess how many on this forum support King Andy...
  12. ł guess it's a decent attempt at masking the eyesore.
  13. Looks like a Georgia pine, but what is the rubbish mounted to it?
  14. Can't wait until ł can say something very similar. Have a 2 bed 1 bath cabin on my 20 that ł look forward to fixing up for year round occupancy. Been contemplating a couple different approaches. My great grand father built the structure in the early 60's. Was a use what you have scenario for a summer place. Makes me worry about asbestos among other things. The improvised foundation is starting to slip too. When ł compare the cost of fixing to rebuilding it is a tough choice. If ł choose to rebuild ł decided to go with essentially the same footprint and ł will preserve the key elements to reuse in the new structure. (Pine board, original doors, brick fireplace etc.)
  15. ł own 20 acres, have permission to hunt approximately 300 acres all privately owned within 10 minutes of my place. Bummer is a 108 acre chuck of that also sees far too much action from a "local community" which has driven it down from what it once was.
  16. All ł see is a length of spray painted PVC. Could be a lot of things. Maybe it was a left over length from building a bow rack that is now marking a trail/property pin. It could be a distance marker for quick ranging from a stand. There are a lot of purposes for PVC, especially when you consider how long it stands up to the elements before breaking down. Regardless of "what it is or isn't" everything is cooler in camo. Tell me what you're sneaking up on with Realtree seat covers... just saying.
  17. YOU DO NOT NEED 10 PEOPLE TO HAVE A PARTY!
  18. ł was heading up to Oakville Saturday, plans have changed.
  19. All jokes aside it looks like a sweet setup. My guess is stock from a crossbow and a trigger mechanism similar to a selfie stick. Looks like ratchet straps holding it together, gotta be a better way than that. Thats some Ingenuity right there.
  20. That thing is semi auto and the pistol grip protrudes rather conspicuously. Capacity is way over 10, no bullet button on his quick release memory card... This guy better not let King Andy see it.
  21. Very impressive Wooly, it's cool watching from beginning to end through the progress pictures.
