Try and oats and winter wheat mix 50/50, plant in late August and overseed with winter cereal rye 2 to 3 weeks later. You should have something green and desirable through December. Had success with the buck forage oats. Good Luck!

Depending on your location, most NY Walmart stores begin receiving Dunstans and selling them end of May. The trees range from 4 to 6 feet: the smaller are about $30 and the larger around $50 as I remember. Assuming like the price of everything else would expect to pay more this year. Chestnut Hill usually lists when trees will be delivered and I think you can sign up for alerts. Good Luck!

Anyone have recommendations on farm equipment supply stores, crop and food plot seed , fertilizer, nurseries etc.... in area? Also, any advice on who can chop multiple acres of Buckthorn and other invasives Is there a local NDA chapter? Any and all info is greatly appreciated! Hope all had a great season so far!

Thanks to all for the feedback! I was thinking my post would start a little controversy for the best NY deer hunting place. Sounds like it been a tough year for deer sightings for most. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had opinions on the following counties: Tioga, Tompkins, Chemung, Schuyler? Greatly appreciate any comments

It appears that Steuben cty is among the best deer hunting in ny state. If you could buy 100 acres east of there what county would it be? Based on overall deer population, antler potential, affordability, taxes etc.....

These are recommended for use with Blackhorn Powder but tough to find in stores. If ordering online, minimum is 1000 (only need 100) and with hazmat fee = $64. Anyone use them and have a local source?

You might be able to plant brassica blends, oats and winter peas the first week of August, they would be able to handle a more acidic soil. I have a brand new plot as well and I will be trying the Antler King Slam Dunk and WI Winter Peas Plus. Those should help build and improve soil for next years planting as well. You may want to check them out. -

Lab Results for Food plot soil

Upstate, was that a Whitetial institute soil test by any chance ? The 1000 lbs lime on the 1/2 acre will work, but go a little heavier if you can. Since you are liming late ( usually needs at least 2 months to work well) go with the Plot Max for sure. 100+ lbs of triple 19 Fertilizer should take care of the P & K. Not sure what your planting but might be best this year to go with something that will do well in lower PH soil. Best of Luck! -
