Wool sock on, put on gallon size zip lock bag over foot. Put foot in boot. Keeps foot and sock dry, feet stay warm. Old crusty hunter taught me that trick. Thought he was trying to f*ck with me as i was a newbie and young and dumb, but SOB it works. Been using this ever since. Saved me a lot of $$$ over the years on expensive hunting boots LOL

I have rocky boots, wool socks and i wrap my feet in gallon sized zip lock bags. Dont ask, it just freakin works. My feet are not wet, never cold. An old crusty hunter taught me this trick, and you know what? It just works. Socks on, put on bag. Insert foot in boot. Too easy. Feet warm.

Have you tried putting plastic bags over socks before putting on boots?

Afternoon will be active after super cold AM. I am sitting 1230 to sunset. All the nocturnal deer will be up a little early to feed right before sunset.

I am. Very little hunting pressure because of holiday/weather, deer will be moving. I am in! In my experience, and the much more seasoned guy i hunt with concurs, super cold =movement and activity. Tomorrow is key if you have tags to fill.

How about a .45-70? Only thing you are missing is a big bore gun. 444 is ok, but have better ammo selection with the 45-70. You can hunt ANY medium to big game on the North American continent with it. Just shooting it at the range is an experience. For pistol, look at a Beretta PX4 Storm full size in .45. Accurate as hell, and even with 230 grain FMJ it recoils only as much as the M9 I carried in the service. Perfect for home defense, or carrying in the woods. Oh and P.S the shield is my fav conceal carry pistol, and the Remington 700 is a class act. You, sir, have damn good taste! Do you prefer the 35 Remington or 30-30 in the 336 for deer?

I have a 700, you really cannot go wrong, especially for the money...

What do you already have? What do you hunt? What would you like to hunt that you dont already? Do you have a pistol permit?

That is why you have to learn target ID. Before you shoot, know what is in front of you. And what is behind your target. I saw a deer coming out of the woods Saturday, 5 mins after i grunted out a doe in heat call. I was like, ok, here comes a doe. A very, very, scared doe. Good enough, maybe she will bring in a buck. It was about 125 yards out in front of me on a hill i was facing. I let it come all the way down the hill, and i instinctively looked at head out of habit and lo and behold, it was not a doe at all, but one of the spike bucks i have seen on cam all offseason. Decision was since it was only 3 hours into season, let it pass. Maybe it would grow into a nice 4 pointer for next year. Looking at it through brush, however, my eyes wanted to see headgear as branches made it look like it had a rack. Day goes by and i am in different spot with my bosses son. He is about 500 yards behind me in tree stand. About 415 i hear a shot behind me, i radio him and yes, he claims he shot a large 4 pointer. Congratulations. 830 he is asking me to help track. 3 hours later and after doging bobcats and coyotes, it all came full circle. Gut shot spike buck in field. Poor target id coupled with buck fever.
