This is the original source of the article, has more info. https://www.newyorkupstate.com/outdoors/2019/01/have-you-see-this-exotic-deer-dec-wants-this-invader-shot.html Apparently, there are red deer taken in November in Cattaraugus County by a 16 yr old girl. 175 pounder, a doe. What bugs me is none of the preserves that have the Sitka reported any missing livestock, and DEC did an inventory and came up with the same thing. Ditto for the red deer. Leads me to believe they are making inroads in our state. Maybe some escaped years ago and have been reproducing?

Holy $hit, bro you have a set on you indeed! How did you get a bobcat to agree to a bath?

Lever action 45 colt or 9mm or 45acp carbine for bear ?
CapDistPatriot replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
This. Most deer rifles with a medium to heavy load will work just fine. I have bears on my property and for that reason I wont hunt with ammo below 139 grain (7mm .08), just in case I do run into one I will be able to dispatch it. As a general rule of thumb, .30 / 7mm and up for bear. -
What pisses me off is combat vets with serious health issues die after waiting MONTHS to see a doctor at the VA, 22 vets a DAY commit suicide, and the soulless, shameless democrats ignore that and find money for NON-CITIZENS to get free health insurance. To the dems, the citizen takes a back seat to the non-citizens, and yes, the wounded veterans, the men and women who offered to put their life on the line for all of us. Absolutely disgusting.

time for a new e-caller

I like that it is lightweight and portable, has more than enough calls, decoy compatible, long range remote and is made in the USA. Was gonna spring for a Primos dog catcher or an IcoTec 300 but both are made in CHYNA. In addition, it comes with a 3 year warranty. All reviews I have read rave about how solid and well built this unit is. Oh, and it comes with a 3 year warranty. -
Thank you! I have only been here since mid-late last year, however i have learned more about sports on this board than all the crackhead degenerate loser/ amateurs i have hunted with the last 10 years combined. That being said, thank you for taking the time out of your evening to reply to my post!

I am ignorant on this topic. What do you mean by "dying on the board"? When you trap do you poison them? How does this work?

This will be my first time out in the bush coyote hunting, want to use an electric caller. What would you guys who have done this before recommend as a newbie set up (i.e. brand, model etc)?
-
Yes, this. The more rancid the meat, the better it will attract.

Doe i took this year day before end of rifle southern zone. Had to drag it a mile out of woods undressed, as i left my gut kit at car. Lessons learned LOL
-
From the look of his frame, he was pretty young. That is a super nice rack for such a young deer.

I was waiting for the glass to break on this guy. Cool Video https://www.wusa9.com/video/news/nation-now/deer-wont-stop-knocking-on-guys-door/465-b62e3b2d-c05f-4b0b-b658-345dfe1a1242

Thats a boy! Very underated cartridge. People choose 30/30 for ammo availability, and it is a valid point for sure. For me though that is not really an issue, capital gun group here in the capital district always has it in stock. I really like Hornady Leverrevolution, awesome balistics. They always carry it.
-
Works for me i agree. On my lease i probably wont be shooting out past 75 so i love the 35, and it is a big heavy slow moving bullet so it is not affected as much by branches and twigs
-
Talk to me about the difference between the two. 30/30 doesnt suck, is actually great for deer. But what do you like/dont like about 35 Rem?
-
Awesome choice. I like 35 Remington myself, as it is more powerful and better for bigger black bear (peace of mind) but 30/30 is just as awesome. No round has killed more whitetail. Marlington quality control is much improved, i will be getting one soon.

Primary Rifle and Back-Up Rifle
CapDistPatriot replied to pitweiler's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
7mm-08 will do the job in any situation we find ourselves in the northeast. It will handle any game on the North American continent short of brown bear. They have all types of platforms that will work well in that caliber (even lever action, see Browning BLR). I like it because it has low recoil, low muzzle blast, and is flat shooting out to 250-300. Most of us will never have to make a shot at that distance more than once or twice in our lives, but it is good to know you can if you have to without doing math in your head while your adrenaline is running on high. I personally have a Remington 700 SPS in 7mm-08. It is rugged, accurate, lightweight and dependable. Hundreds of hours at range and in bush, no issues. For straight brush, or big woods like where i shoot, my next will be a Marlin 336 in 35 Remington. It does everything the 30-30 will do, but you have the extra knockdown power to handle a large black bear. Peace of mind. That platform is tried and true, the Marlington quality control has improved dramatically in the past 2 years, and it is light and rugged. Oh, and not too expensive either. -
Some really nice bucks taken in NY this year
CapDistPatriot replied to Rattler's topic in Deer Hunting
Western NY has some of the best Buck hunting in the Northeast, perhaps the country. That 16 yr old probably has help from dad *cough* bait pile *cough* -
Afternoon sits most productive. Dont move after 2:00-3:30-sundown = witching hour, all kinds of activity. Bring two flashlights. Swing flashlight in circular motion all way out of woods, 360 orange on way out of woods.

This is beautiful. https://www.hudsonvalley360.com/article/police-son-shot-father-after-deer-hunt Accidental discharge after they get home. Simple weapons safety mistake. Unbelievable. I feel horrible for both father and son.
-
Speaking of opening day 8 pointers... Not nearly the buck you took, rattler. But this take on a european my boss did on his is unique and cool. Taken at 4:15pm 2018 opening day. Dressed weight nowhere near 160, more like 120-130. Skull glazed, i think it looks cool.
