  1. I have seen herds of 7 at a time. I have 172 acres, judging from cam footage weekly for about 4 months, probably 10 residents, about 8 frequent visitors. Of course that was before gun season started...
  2. This is not only friggin stupid, but very dangerous. They have no idea is there was a house behind that field, someone walking a dog, etc. I hope they throw the book at em!
  3. Very interesting read. I think it would be a great addition to our eco system
  4. This. I may do the same next year, GREAT policy.
  5. I am thinking the same. This is first year on property for me and my partner, and we got into property so damned late in the year I know it had to have effected the quality of the hunt. We spent 4-5 consecutive weekends (which ran into archery season) scouting for funnels, then setting up stands/blinds, then cutting shooting lanes. Now that we have seen what goes down when the season starts I am completely ditching ground blinds and using tree stands only. Will probably have only two tree stand sites next year in different areas. Oh, and I plan to stay out of the woods as much as possible pre season. Maybe set up my stands in mid summer? It may be feasible now that I know the property and am more familiar.
  6. You did nothing wrong. You filled a tag with a perfectly executed head shot? Makes me look like an amateur you go girl!
  7. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Wildgame-Innovations-Apple-Crush-Deer-Attractant-Power-Powder-5-lb-Bag/22985100?athcpid=22985100&athpgid=athenaItemPage&athcgid=null&athznid=PWVUB&athieid=v0&athstid=CS020&athguid=582b1460-228-1677ef0422344d&athena=true
  8. Where are you hunting? All of my deer are suffering from a serious case of PTSD
  9. Just got into blind for afternoon sit. Massive scrape on trail walking in, so there are def bucks on this property. Scared two on ridge across from my blind on walk in. Irregardless, today is all about venison. If its brown, its down.
  10. I am just so pissed he was able to shoot cleanly 10 mins after I couldn't see. I use a Nikon Prostaff 3-9X40mm and it has been amazing and accurate for like 10 years. I am venting I will get over it when I fill a tag
  11. Who makes that scope? I wanna look into it I googled it NM. Looks like some nice glass, I wanna put Leupold on my next rifle, never heard a negative sentiment about them.
  12. Holy crap THAT is why I would treat a Bobcat the same as a coyote if I saw one on my property. We already have them on cams chasing deer all over our property, and we have only had the property mic'd up since september
  13. My GF is up there in the hierarchy of the Albany Times Useless, and that is exactly what happened. That land is owned by the TU, and Cabellas really wanted to make a deal. The left wing extremists put the kibash on it though because of the politics (Field and Stream supports Dems, Dems gave them the Latham locale.)
  14. Same thing happened to me on Thanksgiving moog. it was 12 degrees with constant 30mph winds. Left stand after two hours and passing a nice medium sized doe because it was so freaking cold I knew it would be an absolutely terrible experience dressing anything I shoot for transport. My parking area where we do this is a clearing just outside our woods where there is no cover and the winds come right in off the mountains. I walked out to my car and out in the field were two mature does grazing, wind to my face so they did not know I was there. I was able to put my pack down and lase them, exactly 101 yds. I watched them for a bit, let off a couple grunts, and then a third even larger deer walked out, about 75 yds behind them I glassed it and boom headgear! He sauntered up to the does and I got a better look at what he was wearing and SOB the biggest spike I have ever seen. Body was that of a 3 1/2 yr old deer, spikes had to be like 18 inches high. Then I thought about how much fun it would be to gut that animal by myself when the real feel temp was appx -25 and dark was coming very soon, and I passed. I still dream of that scene and will be kicking myself for years I know, but it was one of those cool experiences you will remember forever.
  15. Angle may be off first pass. He may be going too fast to get clear pic, second cam would get it from different angle. I have even gotten face pics through windshield. If he steps out of car with weapon, busted.
  16. If you have an extra cam (better if two), put one up on road near where they are doing it. I have two cams on the driveway of my lease (one to catch front plate, one for rear) and have caught multiple trespassers this year, very effective. Make sure it is level with plate and not too far off the road.
  17. Same @$$hholes that use dogs to pin them up in trees and shoot them while they are defenseless or like that prick who shot the bear cubs and the sow up north https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=S9Ejlz6ugGc
  18. Go to Dunkin Doughnuts in a suburban area, far away from people that hunt. Ask for throwaway doughnuts. They will give you garbage bags full of them. Drop them deep in woods in front of your tree stand. Do this weekly, about four to five weeks before season starts. Then when season starts, drop about half as much day before your sit. Then go to your sit.
  19. Aesthetics do not matter unless you are on tv filming your hunts. All that matters is performance. Where i hunt, sundown may be 4:36, but the forest because of thick toposphere is dark by 4:15. My partner hunts with a 50 bell, i with a 40 bell. I had to pass a deer at 4:20 and he got an 8 pointer at 4:30. I should have listened to him. Good shot, too double lung 100 yards with .270 BAR.
  20. Lets pick up this convo this time next year when we have single payer in NYS, a $15/hr min. wage and the taxes get jacked through the roof to support it all and what small businesses are left are run out of the state. Oh, and did I forget to mention SAFE ACT 2?
  21. Great choice. I am partial to nikon, but you cannot go wrong with a Leupold or Bushnell. I would check out a 50 bell if you are hunting deep woods, it gets darker earlier in there.
