  1. Just had 5 go by ... picked the last doe in line and made venison.
  2. Time to invest in reloading for ny was when zar was reelected.
  3. I have had 3 coworkers ask me about shells and reloading for them this week alone. This is the most dried up I have ever seen. I guess I'm an ammo horder of sorts. I roll my own . I can't pass a gun shop without stopping in and I'm usually buying components. We are set for a little while . 308 brass is my week point . Thanks to cdbing. I'm good for now . I will be more on the prowl for brass. Its hard to make people understand that I don't reload for people outside my immediate family. Way to many liability issues.
  4. There are no deer in Steuben County!
  5. Checked my 3 this afternoon and 4 ladder stands. All good .
  6. 480 super redhawk .. 45 colt bisleys blackhawk for backup . Opening day . After that it's anybody's guess. Probably a 308 encore pistol Sunday. Have a few i have to rotate through. Share the love ...
  7. Just checked all 3 of mine. Good to go so far. Putting up a ladder stand by yourself is hard anyway but putting one up in this wind really sucked. Its up ... my buddy better appreciate it.
  8. I bought a bps grinder its made by lem. It takes lem blades . It's probably 10 years old . It works well . I have been thinking about buying a lem upgrade. Up 2 sizes. I have done 15 or 20 deer and 10 pigs alot of beef. Dont need bigger but it would be nice to do more in less time . The big bite models with the chill feature would be cool for making sausage .
  9. I anchored mine with tent stakes . I'm not sure I worry about them blowing away as much as trees falling on them . They are for the most part in the woods .
  10. Woke up late ... up showered fixed a coffee to go . Opened the door to a 5 to 10mph south east wind . That really sucks . I don't have a good stand for that wind . Going to give it an hour and if it doesn't change I'm going to work in the garage today and wash hunting clothes. Fixed a coolant leak yesterday in the truck . I hope it's fixed . Had it in the garage 3 times in last year pressure tested 3 times and they could not find it. Doing breaks on all 4 corners today . Had 4 tires done Friday. Truck just turned 100k. All set for gun season and ice fishing.
  11. Yup its exactly what they are doing . Literally watched them drive out with a bag of corn on the back of a side x side... wife in the back scooping and tossing corn off the back. Wtf.
  12. Seems the deer have reversed their usual patterns. Use to be down hill coming from the fields in the am. Uphill in the afternoon headed to fields on top. Kind of thought the bucks had all the deer running helter skelter . As I'm walking in this afternoon I find 4 or 5 pieces of corn in my south roadway. This is very near the property line . Nearest corn field is half a mile away.
  13. Breezy 31 degrees in 8y . Im in the stand early. Alot of action on big foodplot overnight . Im in my tried and true ladder stand back in the thick stuff. Good luck guys .
  14. Shortages are crazy ... worse than 2013.... Its nation wide. I have had people begging me to reload for them for months . I don't reload for anybody except family. They know they have to supply components. Nice score on 357. Should be fun .
  15. Well I made it until dark nothing seen after the little buck chasing does just after noon. On the drive home I could see alot of deer on big green fields of winter wheat . Had a nice buck chase a doe out of field acrossed the road in front of me, as I was gawking at the deer in the field . Not the way I would have wanted to take that buck. Going to hunt in the morning ... have to have truck in for tires at 10 . Hopefully I can get back in the tree by noon.
  16. Been dead for a bit now....I was not planning an all day sit... no longjohns on . Jacket and camo jeans. Pulled knit cap out of daypack and sweatshirt. Fingerless gloves.. its freaking cold. Uncle just drove over the hill and said there's 2 groups of does bedded in greenfield. No bucks near them. Seems odd. Usually that's a late season thing. Wonder if they are out there to get away from the bucks.
  17. Wind is switching between North and North East . I moved to a ladderstand about 100 yds further up the hill and further east. Pulled a drag past stand
  18. I just grunted up the biggest buck I have ever seen on the hoof. Came to 30 yds but stayed in the brush to the left of my plot. I was suppose to go to DR . Appointment... i just canceled... im staying here in the woods
  19. I'm in and sitting on the little plot. Alot ofscrapes leading up the logging road . Got a pic of this guy recently.
  20. Sitting in small plot since noon . little buck and a few does . This guy shows up on big plot
  21. Its pouring here now l should have hunted from a blind this morning. Got out of stand at 830 soaked through. Made an appointment for tires ... cant get them until Friday at 10am. Clothes in dryer .. pulled out rain gear . Trying to decide if the rain will let up enough to hunt . I don't like hunting bow in the rain . Lost a few deer do to blood trail loss .
  22. Warm walk in this morning . While getting dressed at the foot of my stand I heard grunts down the hill a ways . As I was climbing it started to sprinkle. Sitting here typing i had this guy walk in He just walked in up umdermy stand at 3yds . Worked a scrape trotted of grunting . Now i here turkey on the roost a little ways off . What a great day to be hunting.
  23. 5 years dang ..... time to find new ground to hunt . Congrats on the buck man he is a dandy.
  24. Really big bear ... look at the slead it's laying on ... figure that rope is 3/8 diameter. Average the size of the grass blades and leaves.
