Hi Everyone, my name is Billy Harvey and I am a new member to the forum. Wanted to introduce myself and share about my local hunting podcast that my friends and I are doing called the Pertnear Outdoors Podcast. http://inktr.ee/pertnearoutdoors We started the show a couple years ago and have enjoyed getting to meet some great guests and built some awesome relationships so far. We have become actively engaged with the National Deer Association local chapters to raise some money through raffles and even brewing a beer with proceeds going to NDA and the Venison Donation Coalition. There are two events coming up soon here in WNY that we hope would interest many of you. This saturday 8-14 at 12pm is a Tethrd Teach and Train event at Allied Sportsmen in Alden on Clinton street. This is a free event and just need to sign up at the following link. Teach and Train signup Sunday 8-22 we are hosting a beer debut event at Windy Brew in Sheldon NY right on Rt. 20a. We will have basket raffles with some great prizes including tree stands, fishing gear, easton arrows and much more. We will also be raffling off a Traditions Nitrofire Muzzleloader. All proceeds from the event will be split between NDA and VDC. We hope to see you there. If anyone is interested in any other info, feel free to contact us on Instagram @pertnearoutdoorspodcast or on Facebook. Thanks and look forward to interacting with the group. Billy-

Hello to All, New to this forum. I'm an old fart archery hunter. I live in VT but do a lot of hunting in the Lake George area Adirondacks. It's tough bow hunting and even gun hunting is a real challenge. This year I'd like to broaden my horizons...... I'm planning to drive out to Yates County this coming weekend just to hike some public land and am considering either High Tor WMA or Italy Hill State Forrest. Anybody have any experience hunting either of these areas? I'm sure they get a lot of pressure during the gun season but I'm wondering how much pressure they get during the archery season. Thanks!

Hello to All, I’m new to these boards. I’m just an old dog bow hunter from Vermont looking to hunt more of New York this year. I spend a lot of time in the Lake George Region Adirondacks although I’ve not tagged a buck there in a few years. I’m looking to hike some new areas in Region 3 (looking at Orange County but open to ideas!) and was wondering if anyone could offer advice for Bow Hunting on public land. Does public land get a lot of pressure during the bow season? I’m sure it does for gun. Anyone hunt Pochuck Mountain State Forrest? Can a bow hunter avoid being run over by fellow sportsmen trying their luck?

Hi All, I am new to Steuben county (I live in Painted Post/Erwin) and new to the forum. I have been an avid hunter since I turned 12 and have hunted in both NY and PA (most of the time in western PA where I grew up). I haven't bow hunted in a few years, but I recently got the Mathews out to see if I still could shoot. I also rifle and muzzleloader hunt. I am in the process of scouting out Pinnacle State Park, McCarthy Hill State Forest, and Erwin WMA. If anyone out there could offer any suggestion on a gun club (I can hear the Painted Post gun club from my house), I would appreciate it as I need a safe place to sight in my guns. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you!

Hello there. I'm a lifelong archer, living in NYC, and my mom got me into hunting last year. We were shooting at a 3D range and her hunting buddies couldn't believe the shots I was making at 60 yards, I had no idea I was any good, it's just something I've done for fun for a long time and I guess I got pretty good. So I started doing some reading about conservation and I love to cook and I also love backpacking, so I just put those things together and got myself a proper hunting setup and got myself licenced this year. This last weekend I just went up to the Catskills for the early bear season. I hunted out of my tent solo in the forest and holy cow I'm hooked. It's bananas in the bush. I'm so used to being on trails there's a whole other world when you're off the trails. It was physically demanding (I'm in pretty good shape but I feel broken right now), and I feel an incredibly amazing positive energy coming from this experience. Confronting my lifelong fears of bears (I've been solo backpacking for a long time with maybe my dog but usually alone) ... I went into the woods with my pack, some water, my PSE Xforce (it's a beast), Montec G5 broadheads sharpened to a surgical edge and some scents I made following the NYS rule of 1.5 oz. I bought some small glass 2oz bottles and mixed extracts of anise, caramel and vanilla. Damn it's a strong smell. I know the area I was hunting quite well so I went straight to where I knew the bears were moving. Scat everywhere. I've been doing my research and following Cameron Haines, reading his books and it all fell into place. I'll try and keep this brief here and recount my experience under the bear threads where they may help other. No luck but using the Trimble app I logged at least 3 absolutely perfect hiding spots with 10 - 40 yard shots, perfectly hidden with tons of scat and water sources nearby. Exhilarating!

Warning this has adult language! Shooting the top Half of Suffolk Archers warming up for bow season. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pyvuUqD2ZM&feature=em-upload_owner Middle of our course/ starting area, running deer shot. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uh06uikZWxQ&feature=em-upload_owner Our field course and the south side its connect to. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NRg7lbZqAKk&feature=em-upload_owner First video is edited to be steady with google edit, second two are in original format. Narrow angle 1080p GoPro Black. Wish the target was in better view at 30 plus yards... I was shooting OK that day but not concentrating on the closer shots... Like the camera just wish it was a little better at low light and long distance and battery life, remote is nice to turn it on but drains the battery more. Head mount works well if you wear a hat, mounting accessories offer many options. Waterproof enclosure makes sound null but ensures long life in harsh hunting conditions. Overall good camera with nice features.

Hope everyone is doing well. I did an unusual video test recently and wanted to see how the arrow sounded at different yardages. This brought me to ask my fellow bowhunters - do the deer jump the sound of the string or the sound of the broadhead/arrow? http://www.huntograp...rrow-broadhead/ Thoughts? Thanks all! - Rudy

Hey guys, After seeing a post earlier i have to say this, I am an avid small game hunter, I currently dont have my archery tag as i couldnt get into a course this year(my fault i waited too long). But as i was raised and hunted with my father and grandfather growing up i was taught to respect any and all hunters in the woods. that means if im hunting small game in the early season and i see that there may be other hunters in the woods you pay even more attention and respect their hunting area, i personally have never walked up on another hunter in the woods and try to steer clear of them if i do happen to see them. but the woods are fair game for all of us and we should all be respectful of each individuals pursuit of their choice in game to take at any given time assuming it is in a legal manner. Now to what i read, you die hard archery guys that are complaining about the youth hunt and small game hunters ruining your day in the stand, wake up and remember it is those youths and small game guys and gals that help keep hunting a sport we can all enjoy. Now i also understand not all hunters have the same respect when they see blaze orange in a stand 100 yards away, i personally am not going to pull up to pick off a squirrel if i see an archer in stand. thats just not right, there is alot of game in season this time of year and we all need to be able to respect and enjoy the sport we have to spend so much money on to enjoy. sorry for going on and on but it pisses me off when i hear people talkin bad about the youth hunts and small game hunters "ruining" a day in the archery stand.

We will have our 3D shoot this weekend, all are welcome, I believe it's 20 entry fee. 8 am registration 9am start. We have our silver arrow 3D shoot in 2 weeks. Both are open to the public. Let me know if anyone is interested. I will be at both shoots and hope to place in the top 3 in both... Now that my arrow rest is not loose any more I am going to try and beat my 276 high score. (Shot 3 weeks with it slightly loose, did not notice untile my arrows started flying about 8 inches to the rt... ARG) Most targets range from about 17 yards to 50 yards depending on who set up the course. Traditional and long bow welcome and shoot from closer distances... I find the course to be a challenge and always a fun time!!! THis is the link to our schedual. http://www.suffolkarchers.com/schedule.html If this sunday is no good you still have 2 weeks to get ready for the next shoot. Let me know if anyone is interested, I have 1 or 2 people shooting with me on sunday and we usually pair up in groups of 4 sometimes more if needed. But more than 4 shooting at the same target can mean damaged arrows so we try to limit that... Lots of fun and a great place to shoot!!!

this bear was taken last year in the southern zone. it is one of four bears taken on our 75 acres. those for bears were the four out of the 5 bears taken in our county in 2 years. for some reason they like our land. it borderds 200 acres of state land. I had just came out from lunch around one o'clock, been settled in for about an hour and in the corner of my eye i see a black furball. it dissapeared for a few minuets then reapperead. 20 yrds away perfect broadside shot my parker inferno and 3 blade spitfire broadheads did the job and passed through both lungs and sliced the heart. she didnt run more than 10 yrds. i was scared out of my mind so i waited in my stand for TWO HOURS just to make sure the deal was sealed. sure enought it was. P.S: this was posted now because i just joined the site. looking forward to having another one in just a couple of weeks.

This bow is in great shape. I recently paid over $100 to have it tuned up and restrung. I have the receipt for the service. It has a brand new whisker biscuit rest, a brand new sling, and I upgrade the peep site to a larger hunting style peep site. I am selling it because I need to free up some money and I no longer use this bow. I'm asking $150 firm. Bow is right handed. 30" draw. Call me 703 776 0860. Hartsdale, NY.
