Culvercreek hunt club
Understood, but I think saying it is a policy is a stretch and I don't think they should be singled out. it is everywhere. The abuse and the coverups.
virgil
OK, scratch the word 'policy' and insert the word 'habit'.

virgil
Each of these things that you're listing refer to individual entities, not international organizations. If the leadership of any individual institution is involved in a coverup, that's awful. When the leadership of an international organization that represents thousands of individual institutions is involved in or aware of a coverup, that's far worse. I can't tell where you're coming from on this one. You seem to be clearly aware that the original statement about child abuse and coverups in the church is true, but want to partially excuse it by pointing out that the church is not the only place where abuse occurs. Culvercreek hunt club
My guess is that you are a practicing Catholic. No actually I am not. I left the Catholic church because I don't agree with many of their policies and teachings and their treatment of my wife and daughter in preparation for confirmation. I just thik to single them or any group out on a topic like this is not correct. I was biting my tongue because it is none of anyones business but is their a specific reason you seem to target them as soon as an opportunity rises? Absolutely the worst crime that can occur. I just differ in placing an importance of it being "international' in assigning the importance. I guess I am more about numbers and I don't think it is genuine to single Catholics out as a religion becasue of the actions of some priests or even higher level officials. The rank and file and the vast majority of the clergy are very good people. To make a comment (It was a questions but even Stevie Wonder could see where it was going)that in supporting the church you are supporting the abuse. There si obvious dislike in Both of you for organized religion. That is fine. Your call. but I can't agree and sit silently becasue these evils are performed by sick twisted individuals and coverups are not the appropriate view of the church....the members ...the people are the church not even the few at the leadership. Early
I single Catholics out because I see them as GUILTY! Practicing Catholics are members of an evil cult that is both anti-woman and anti-children. OK...Now you tell me: How does the Catholic church group not qualify as a cult.....???? Evil-doing and evil-doers should not be allowed to skate just because their evil acts are part of their religion. If you subscribe to a religion that practices or tolerates evil...then you are evil! No more hiding behind weird gowns and funny hats! In case you are wondering: I am NOT and HAVE NEVER BEEN a Catholic. Even at an early age, I was too smart for that! growalot
their treatment of my wife and daughter in preparation for confirmation. ...So you'll appreciate this CC...first I carried the wine in the ceremony...Cardinal Mooney ...I think officiated...I got so bored...forgot to get out of pew on cue to go get the wine...ended up running to the back of church...to giggles all around.... Then as we were all to leave.... he stood at the door with his bright red and gold ring blessing everyone as they left....I'm watching as everyone's kneeling to kiss his ring....HaHaha ya...I get up there and he holds out his hand....I grab his fingers gave a good shake saying bless you and thank you...out the door I went...The look was priceless and he did give a parted lip grin...but all went dead silent...and OMG was my God mother...Aunt Margret ...mad at me...still doesn't talk to me after all these years...Oh well..kiss his ring...seriously? Early
I can, and do find fault with all religion. I find the cult-like, evil-practicing Catholic religion to be particularly distasteful.

Actually the idea that if you are part of a group that does evil and you do nothing about it then you are evil too is sound. All evil needs to prosper is for good men to do nothing about it; or something like that. With that in mind though I would guess that you also hold Islam in low regard and for that matter even your own government to which you pay taxes and therfore support. Culvercreek hunt club
Luckily in this country it isn't mandated so you are free to have that opinion. I took the opportunity last night to put in a prayer request at the church I belong to.Since I only knew your screen name I had to submitt the request for that name. I am sure the Lord will be able to sort through it. Over the next week you will have over 5,000 mambers praying that you find peace and are able to get by the hatred. It is obvious to me that somehow personally you have been slighted or had a bad experience with religion and the burden you are carrying is weighing heavily on you. I hope you find peace, May God bless you and spread his love on you.
Early
Hey WNYBuckhunter, You are right...and, it was not my intention to turn this into religion bashing. My initial intent was to suggest that while many express outrage at the child abuse detailed in the original post, many of those who do, readily accept...and even finance the protection of child abusers who happen to be church officials. Thereafter, I got a little too caught up in things. For that, I apologize and will now butt out of this discussion.
