Is America the Greatest Country in the World

So when did the mass-exodus of U.S. citizens begin? Last I knew, there were still huge numbers of people trying to get in here, but I don't really recall hearing a whole lot about the shrinking U.S. population as they leave this terrible country in decline. I must have missed all that.

Yes, we have a whole lot of faults to point at that we are all very familiar with because we live here. One has to wonder what kinds of flaws we might encounter in some of these other "paradise" countries if we actually had to live there for a while.

The wealthiest Americans are now leaving the country at record rates, twice as many as last year, 8000 are projected to leave this year. That's about 18 times the number that left in 2008. Thats not a huge number of people but the impact will probably be significant. So another result of the Obama's plan to "tax the tar out of the rich" is that they are leaving the country at record rates. People who work hard and have the means to leave do not appreciate a business future that is uncertain due to a government that is either anti-business, incompetent or both. Its a bad sign. Those of us that are left will have to pick up more of the tab for useless government waste and lousy government efficiency. We will have to pony up even more as the current 42 cents debt on each goverment dollar spent it likely to increase. So don't be too surprized when taxes go up for everybody. We won't have as many rich guys to pay for all the waste because they are voting with their feet.

I think there are a lot of places that look rather nice as long as I am not actually living there. What the heck, there are a lot of other states that look rather nice, but again I have not experienced actually living there encountering all the day today crap that they have to put up with. Remember that old saying about the grass on the other side of the fence. Some times it actually is and most of the time it isn't.

I think nobody is running yet because there isn't anyplace to run to .... lol. Our biggest problem is that we are trying to change to be like every other country. We keep trying to convert other countries to Democracy, and all that is being accomplished is that they are moving us toward their socialism (and worse). It all relates to the globalization of America in which we are letting foriegn countries influence our values and theories of government. Let's hope those smart sheep can figure a way to get us back to a little bit of nationalism and forsake this damned copy-cat attitude that our leaders have come to embrace.

Totally agree... and yes there certainly is no place to run. I think some confuse what they think is another good place to live... with the old saying " A nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there."

I am staying rite here in DutchessCounty.It's a little tuff at time's but this is home and still have plenty of good hunting and fishing.If we run then we are weak like the rest.This Country is not at this time the greatest and may never be again all we can do is keep our chin's up and help to make it great again.

I am sitting within view of the homestead of Ethan Allen, and John Stark and other Revolutionary heroes, the two men that introduced me to this coffee shop are both SAR members, keeping in mind their familes lived here ) virginia and maryland) for 170 plus years BEFORE the AMerican Revolution.

Which is an interesting item I think. Half their history they are AMericans the other half they are colonists.

One of these men said something interesting about Daniel Boone the other day, in that Dan'l left America twice, once becoming a French citizen and the other becoming a Spanish citizen, but both times the expansion of America caught him and made him once again 'American'.

The reason I pick Mexico and Peru is (If you have money ofcourse) it is easier to live and bribe people in mexico and much cheaper than doing the same in the USA.

I love Siberia too but its too expensive to live there.

If you dont have money every country is pretty much the same.

We use to be... I can not imagine moving out of the USA ever... Even though we are going down hill at an alarming rate and our politicains are not helping(unless it has to do with a raise for themselves or better heath coverage for THEMSELVES...) I still believe we are great, just not the greatest any more, and no I do not know who is.

I'm pretty sure that as the U.S. goes, so goes the planet. What I mean by that is that the world is so financially intertwined that if anything were to happen to America, we would likely take down any other place that anyone might think to move to. Of course that works both ways .... The economy of Greece threatens default, and Wall Street has a nervous breakdown. Isn't globalization wonderful?

I came into this country from England and believe me we have it good here compared to over there. The standard of living here is much higher and better job prospects.Freinds who are still over there are experiencing high unemployment and poor health care with vandalism rampant. One of my freinds was out leagaly rabbit hunting and was confronted by a fully armed police swat team who arrested him only to release him when the landowner was contacted to confirm he was given permission to hunt. I became a citizen here and have no intension of going back.

I have a friend with the opposite feeling. He got transfered to England for his job. Packed the wife and 3 kids up and left. He know has the chance to come back to NY and his family told him to forget about it they are staying there. Doc hit on a very good point. Globalization! I really think we need to start looking out for #1 (USA). Back to grass roots. I have a buddy who strongly feels the only way we are going to get america back to what it was is with a depression. I obviously was not part of the era of the great depression but he feels it united people and this country.

There are a few areas where I do believe that the U.S. has dropped way down in terms of the general individual and national character that most U.S. citizens once shared. My personal opinion is that we probably couldn't survive another depression of the size of 1929. I believe that instead of self reliance, cooperation and charity that was prevalent back then, a depression would plunge us into a state of barbarism, mass starvation, and lawlessness, the likes of which we can hardly imagine. The "me generation" would manifest itself in ways that would absolutely horrify those that went through or even read about the great depression. I don't think we are made of the same fibre that brought us through those trying times.

Also, the way the economies are so entangled these days, there wouldn't really be any place to flee to in the event of a depression.

travel alittle, you might be surprised at the quality of life other countries have today. just head north a few miles to that hell hole Canada and see how horrible things are up there, man those folks are really suffering or so would alot of the politicos you all listen to will have you beleive.

Not sure what you ment you let first slide.I do not think at this time America is that great,born and raised here I guess we are as great as we can be rite now,Have never traveled to other country's so I'm not to sure wich is the greatest.This is a great country for the most but we are starting to fail in alot of area's If we keep outsourcing our job's it is going to get worse.I currently make 40 tho a year and live comfortable but for how long till even myself cannot afford a great life.The great/our country is broke and not just money wise.We give to every other country and what do we get back nothing,just a bunch of yahoo's that want to destroy THE USA.

you know what amazes me is that we are headed for this financial cliff brought on by big business, wall street, Washington(both parties) and nobody seems to really beleive it?? we are all sitting around argueing about some chicken place called fillet oh whatever and if gays should be allowed to eat there or not and if women should be having abortions or not all while we are only months away from being flushed down the crapper.

and we sit here contemplating wether we are a great country or not anymore. man if you dont know the answer to that one then you are cooked!

You are right Doc, and i apologize. I almost didn't hit the post button. I guess the talk of other countries like Canada, Peru and Mexico being good places to live got my blood boiling a bit. The thought that currupt, third world, anti-gun, socialistic, un-inventive, dependant countries seem good to some people is sad. As you stated so correctly, as America goes, so does the world. Well what ash heap would any of these three countries be in without the ,gererosity, security, economic power and moral compass of the US over the years. I think there is a natural tendency to be a bit touchy about those who seem to delight in bad-mouthing our country. That generally will put me in a spring-loaded, pissed off condition. However even with all that said, I do think it may not be so bad to keep a critical eye on trends and features that might indicate negative changes in our status and national condition. What sends me into orbit is when I sense people making a sport out of "shock-talk" where they engage in what I would call mindless U.S. bashing, and seem to take some kind of perverse delight in that or try to come off as some phoney, lofty, super-open minded, superior intellect. I can be sent into two directions when it comes to that sort of thing. Hysterical laughter at the pretentiousness or finding myself going off the deep end in anger .... lol. It all depends on how it hits me.
