Well im glad someone on here knows some of the story anyways. Never heard of the bringing in of wild deer. That sounds kinda strange. As far as Mad Cow... Never in a deer. As far as selling to other farms with a problem, I dont see how that can be seeing though there were no other cases. They believe the wild deer came in contact with the salt and remains of the deer from out west that he dumped in the woods on his property. Bottom line is that cwd came in from out west and untill there is a law in place that stops all hunters from bringing in deer parts from other states, It could happen again!!

I am basically around the corner from where it happened. I refer to it as "Mad Deer" jokingly, I do know that it is not the same thing as Mad Cow. There were two herds destroyed, the original infected herd and a second herd that included deer that were bought from the first. I thought that the second herd was infected also but they may have destroyed the second herd as a precaution.

Makes sense Elmo. Why is it scary, its just a marketing ploy, like alot of other things people fall for. The only things I figure are truly "organic" or 100% natural, no preservatives, etc are the veggies you grow or get from a farm stand you know that grows them, and the wild game you shoot or meat you raise yourself. Have no illusions, the rest is processed in some manner.

I can't speak for everything but I know that in the milk business, "organic" is highly regulated. We have to keep the organic milk totally segregated from non-organic and even have to run the organics first on the schedule so there is no chance of any non-organic getting mixed in. The certified organic farms get paid more for the milk to make up for the extra trouble of getting and remaining certified organic.

There are some pesticides and medicines though that are approved for organic use, so the term organic doesn't necessarily mean that there are absolutely zero chemicals ever used in the growing of them.

I read that the regulation and definition of organic is so lax that only slight modifications are needed to label something as being "organic". i.e. Chickens are held in pens like non-organic chicken but during the last two weeks of their life, they open the doors granting them access outdoors. The chicken don't actually go outside since they never knew life other than the pen and by the time they work up the courage to walk outside, they're slaughter. They also change their diet during this 2 week period which allows to slap the "free range" and "organic" label on the chicken.

I believe in the organic thing. I family buys almost everythign organic. don't confuse "free range" with "organic." Whether or not they are allowed to walk free, doesn't speak to the growth hormones, anti-biotics and all the other shit they pump animals with. it is quite disgusting. As far as fruits and veggies, not having all the chemical laden fertilzers and pestisides is a big deal. I really don't care so much for me, but my 2 little kids at home I care a whole lot. You would all be very surprised at what you ingest!! Funny thing is, my wife, who is big on the free range and organic meat, won't eat deer. LMAO. Doesn't get any more free range or organic than that!!

Geno i have seen it being eaten by me grandfather but would never try it. I think they use a goats head for that. Not sure how it would taste with a deer head. These guys don't know about Capozelle. :D

lol it is a goats head... you said old school Italian, just wanted to see how old school we are talking :P

and no they dont, just us Italians do... lol

I heard the story but couldnt remember if it was contact with a deer on that farm or remains of one from that farm or somewhere else. Im not a deer farmer, and dont hunt anywhere need the old CWD zone, so I dont remember specifics. What does that have to do with carcass remains of a local deer or one that dies in the wild.

That stick you have really must hurt. You should take it out one of these days.

Has nothing to do with a stick and everything to do with stupid comments made about other peoples choices of what they enjoy doing. If it has nothing to do with the poster then maybe it should be left alone!!!

and seriously, about the CWD when was the last reported case????? i guess NY is the only state that has CWD considering so many other states bate legally and supplemental feed throughout the summer... the CWD talk is funny to me, with all the baiting going on in this state, state wide how many cases pop up each year??? i mean really...

It still has everything to do with the stick, you just dont seem to have a sense of humor anymore. Maybe a little smiley would have clued you in better, but they dont work on my ipad.

Well if thats the case it may be best to leave the stick where it is. Throwing opinions around at someone else's demise does not say much for yourself but if thats what gets ya off, Have at it!!

The only cases ever found in NYS were in 2005, the Mad Deer Containment Zone was discontinued in 2010.

thats why the CWD talk is so funny... its all a bunch of talk with evidence that really never shows its face. so many hunters state wide step away from the law and bait but no solid occurrences of CWD pop up. at least that i have heard of??
