Residency in two states?

I figured someone may have experience with the question I'm running into. I go to school in Mass. 3hrs+ away from home and hunting land. Already got my resident NY super sportsman license (still have yet to take a deer in my life!) for the year. Previous years I've only been able to spend a few weekends in the woods...hopefully explaining my lack of success. Even when I haven't seen deer when home I'm really happy to spend time outdoors, but I would love for this year to produce some venison.

Is it possible for me to get a cheap resident Mass hunting license since I technically could count as a resident due to the time I've been living here? Also, a friend from school has great access to lands that I could hunt as well...so it's very tempting. The resident license in Mass is very cheap and I'd like for more opportunities to get some venison in my belly.

Will DEC be on me if I get a resident license in another state as well? If you've got any knowledge of the matter please share

Thanks,

Muthers

I think residency goes by the drivers license you hold. If it's a NYS license, I don't think you can get a MA resident hunting license. If you had a MA drivers license, you would be considered a non-resident in NYS for a hunting license.

My guess is that the chances of NY DEC searching other states lists of resident hunters is about as close to zero as possible. If you can meet the MA residency requirements I would say not to worry about NY.

Even if you cannot have residency in both and NY did by some miracle see you had both and wanted to talk to you about it, you should have no problem telling them you decided to change residency. I doubt there's a law the prevents you from using your already purchased residency tag for the entire season. I know for fact it doesn't hold lifetime licenses - they've been mailing mine to me in NJ for 10 years.

K--I think the question was more being able to actually GET a resident license. If you don't have a NY state ID like a drivers Licence they hit you with Non resident. A buddy on mine just moved to PA and after 25 years of NY hunting they wouldn't sell him the resident tags since he had switched the drivers license to PA. if he had purchased a lifetime prior to move he would hae been golden

      Hello,
I am in the process of purchasing my first rifle to go hunting deer for the first time.  However, I have received contradicting information regarding the types of rifles that are legal.  Based on what I have read, it appears that I am able to use a bolt-action rifle with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine which holds 10 rounds.  However, I have been told that this is not the case. I can't seem to find where this is stated.  Can any one here provide me with some insight into this? I'd really appreciate it.
      Thanks in Advanced,
      Alfredo

Not much to post for a reply to keep this from getting buried.  Really just to keep some informed with a meaningful, subject relevant political post. lol  An updated list of legislation that had to due with deer hunting some might find useful.  Anyway, do get your friends together to write into or see your representatives.  if any of these bills mean anything to you, they are your means to make things happen.

It's almost end of season and my husband only got ONE deer this year and he's only got a buck tag left. I think it's so dumb how all these people are posting pics of dead deer after dead deer on facebook—they can't possibly have tags for all those!!! Sometimes playing by the rules doesn't seem fair. Hunting licenses cost so much, you have to tag your deer, you can't hunt after dark, can't use decoys, and on and on. Do you play by the rules ALL the time? Should we pick and choose which laws to actually abide by? Ever gotten caught? You know, of course, the second my husband takes the chance and shoots a doe without a tag for it he'll get fined. Just our luck.

Hello all, I want to get into hunting with a rifle But I live in NYC. As most of you may or may not know, Its impossible to own a firearm in NYC. I was wondering if i got a hunting license would that allow me to purchase a hunting rifle? or would I have to go through the impossible steps to get a permit for a long gun? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
