Deerthug
This guy comes walking in from my right on yesterday's afternoon/evening sit. He walks to about 25 yards. I drew back, when I realized he's only a 4ptr and I got busted. Then he hangs around for a while. . . .

Deerthug
Thanks. But it would have been nicer if he had a few more points and stood broadside a bit longer! LOL!

Doewhacker
Neat video, he spotted you as soon as he hit the field and turned. I think his curiousity is why he came in honestly, how is your back drop in that tree? Did you learn a lesson from that? I would say to not try to draw while the deer is in the wide open and semi-alert to you. Just my .2 though.
steve863
I thought you are looking for some meat?? If you want meat and only have a limited time to hunt, then one needs to SHOOT!!!
Deerthug
Neat video, he spotted you as soon as he hit the field and turned. I would say to not try to draw while the deer is in the wide open and semi-alert to you. Just my .2 though. I have a ladderstand against a tree about 10-15 into the wood line. There is a canopy attached which I have had pushed back and tied up for the entire year. Don't use it anymore. The wind (what little it was) was blowing toward me. So I know he didn't smell me. You are probably right that he was more curious than anything else but he never presented a broadside shot. when he comes in and out of the picture at the bottom he was staring head on - as soon as he turned his head to the right I drew back. Must have been the noise of my draw that spooked him. I thought you are looking for some meat?? If you want meat and only have a limited time to hunt, then one needs to SHOOT!!! I am looking for some meat but he didn't present a broadside shot or quartering to when he came in closer. It's off the camera when he walks in closer. Trust me, I wish he stood there longer and took one step to his right - I would have released an arrow but I think I may have rushed it and drew back too early. But it was exciting to see him come in from that distance. Edited October 29, 2012 by Deerthug
Doewhacker
"- as soon as he turned his head to the right I drew back. Must have been the noise of my draw that spooked him." It certainly does not take much for them to pick up on danger, a slight movement or noise in that situation and they are gone most of the time. Nothing you can do either, been there a bunch of times..lol
Deerthug
It didn't help that there was no wind whatsoever to cover the slightest noises.

Nomad
I read this because almost everyday the last few I've been out the same 4pt has been around,he busted me last night and 2 days prior as I walked in a green field at 10:00,altough he came from 150 to 50 yards before he caught on. This morning here he comes again.... stayed at 15-30 yards for over 30 minutes, kind of annoying as i figured at some point I'd be busted and he'd run off snorting up a storm. That never happened saw another young one and a few unknown off a bit. If he's around opening day when my daughter is home from college, he's done for !
