ANTLERS
Useless old solution to a problem that has never worked in the past,But i heard that Obama wants to cover all deer with his Obama care,So I guess they will be all right. Geno C
WOW, thats a crap idea... like we really need to spend money on a project like that. I wonder what effects it will have on the deer by cutting a birth cycle down to every 3 years.
the blur
South Hampton, East Hampton, Fire Island, all the same non-sense. Let there be 24/7/365 bow hunting. Problem solved.
ANTLERS
The way I read past descriptions,1st you have to get to within bow range to hit them with a dart, assuming the injection actually works,They need a booster shot after a certain amount of time.Good luck finding that same doe again. The study's that these animal rights group always refer to when proclaiming it success are results from penned deer in a labratory environment. arrow nocker
I hope it doesn't cause some rare disease from the contraceptive and wipe out a crap ton of deer in the state.Or turn them zombie or sum chit. That would be a real smack in the face for them there anti's

k burke
Doubt bowhunting will work in that area unless the 500' rule is GREATLY reduced. Probably be hard pressed to find a spot unless it was 100' or less.
fasteddie
Irondequoit had a serious deer problem in the village . They used to hire off duty police to Bait & Shoot the deer . Later they went to having bowhunters get a certification and cull the deer during certain hours of the day allowing shots in less than 500 feet from occupied homes . It saved the Town / Village a lot of money .
k burke
interesting about Irondequoit. How'd they get the reduction of the 500' rule? Isn't that set by law requiring either permission from the landowners or a change of the legislature?
k burke
From a quick search this 2010 article suggests that the 500' rule wasn't changed, but that they were able to find some places that either were compliant with the rule or had some homeowner permission. "Boyan said the town issues permits to only a limited number of qualified bow hunters. They may then hunt only on selected sites....." http://www.irondequoitpost.com/features/x1684099742/Irondequoit-bow-hunt-to-reduce-deer-herd-is-once-again-under-way Seems like it's working pretty good for them.
