Legal in NY?

If you are in an area and season. that allows firearms then a pistol is legal in any cartrige. Example: you are in a WMU that allows shotgun only during regular deer, you can carry an TC Encore chambered in .30-06 if you have a permit to posess and carry one. (Pistols are not allowed to be carried while you are bow hunting during bow season)

Ahh Now I see.  Thanks WNYBuckHunter.  Did not know they allowed handgun in rifled calibers in none rifle counties...  We have a few exceptions I see...

exceptions? I was sure in any place that allowed a gun you could use a pistol in a rifle caliber. Where do you see the exceptions?

Yeah there are no exceptions, any legally defined pistol is good anywhere a gun is.

The exceptions I was refering to were the fact that you can use a rifled bullet in a non-rifle county with a handgun.  Not hangun in rifle county...  I think most of us understand if a rifle is OK a handgun is too...

Caliber of said handgun makes no difference. In my area, we are shotgun only. I, and many others do and have used rifle caliber handguns in these areas. There are no restrictions, except no rimfire.

Surprised it isn't more popular, i mean i know people say pistols are hard to be accurate with (im yet to shoot one in a rifle caliber yet) but still the advantage of being able to basically use a "rifle" seems to be a no-brainer and also great for those who are looking for a challenge.

I actually wanted a barrel in that caliber or the 7mm-08 but the deal I got on the .308 was to hard to pass up.

Those two calibers seem to be popular with deer hunters who dont want all the recoil but still want the flat shooting rounds.

Quite a bit more recoil involved when you shoot them in a handgun lol. I dont mind it though.
